[The Eclipse's Universes] EXO's Comeback Rumors Thread 2019

It's already that time of the year, where we start speculating and sharing rumors about EXO's grand comeback.

Inspired by this thread (made by Zella) from last year. This will become the official comeback thread and we will discuss here until EXO drop their album.

 

 

EXO have the tendency of switching between Dark and Light concepts every year.

Seeing how 2017 was a light concept year with Colorful

and Fun/comic

.

This year, 2018, is expected to go full on Dark concept like :

Reminder that EXO never recycle a concept. Every year they come with new aesthetics and experiment on new music genres. so i'm very excited and hyped to see what they'll bring to the table this year.

 

i'm sharing bellow a compilation of "facts" (not the fans "theories") about EXO's main theme; yes the known EXO universes/planet theme and most importantly the "Eclipse" that often makes appearance in EXO's teasers and VCRs.

I. Introducing EXO Planet:

1. Beginning:

As everyone knows already, EXO members come from EXOplanet; a planet outside our solar system. As shown in

MV which features the members dancing in a completely different planet than Earth.

But due to the Red Force destroying their "Tree Of Life", EXO landed on earth and started using their superpowers as shown in

MV.

Quoting this from MAMA intro:

"When the skies and the grounds were one, the legends, through their twelve forces, nurtured the tree of life. An eye of red force created the evil which coveted the heart of tree of life, and the heart slowly grew dry.

To tend and embrace the heart of tree of life, the legends hereby divide the tree in half and hide each side. Hence, time is over-turned and space turns askew.

The twelve forces divide into two and create two suns that look alike into two worlds that seem alike. The legends travel apart. The legends shall now see the same sky but shall stand on different grounds, shall stand on the same ground but shall see different skies.

The day the grounds be kept a single file before one sky in two worlds that seem alike, the legends will greet each other. The day the red force is purified, the twelve forces will reunite into one perfect root, a new world shall open up."

 

2. Concert tours:

EXO concert tour series is titled "EXO Planet" with interesting sub-labels:

EXO Planet #3 – The EXO'rDIUM
EXO Planet #4 – The EℓyXiOn (current)
 

 

 

II. Introducing EXO's Eclipse:

A very important part of EXO's world. EXO’s super powers are centered around the Eclipse.

 

1. Pathcode:

The Pathcode series that took Kpop by surprise in 2015 and cemented EXO as the conspiracy theories idols.

It shows EXO members living a normal life in our Earth, then suddenly they receive a suspicious message and their super powers awaken again as the eclipse happens.

2. Debut teasers:

 

EXO are popular for their mysterious debut teasers from 2012, that show the members directly looking at the Eclipse from different part of the world.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Notice that not all debut teasers got released as a full song yet. Some are still kept in the dungeon. Personally, I'm excited for

to get full adaption next. What about you?

 

 

 

3.Total Solar Eclipse:

 

A total solar eclipse happens on Monday, August 21, 2017. it got the name "The Great American Eclipse" for being the first total solar eclipse visible across the entire United States.

 

EXO took us by surprise and released a music teaser titled “Total Eclipse†on the exact same day, featuring a beautiful total eclipse accompanied by member Baekhyun’s hypnotizing voice singing a snippet of

(a b-side song from “The Power Of Musicâ€).

This is the coolest teaser of 2017 (in my opinion) and one of my favorite Kpop songs.

 

 

 

 

 

4.Total Lunar Eclipse:

 

A total lunar eclipse happens on January 31, 2018. titled "Super Blue Blood Moon" due to the rare coincidence between the "Super Moon" and the "Blue Moon". "blood" refers to the typical red color of the Moon during a total lunar eclipse.

 

No surprise this time, we all knew that EXO were dropping their 1^st Japanese Full Album “CountDown†on the same date, with the title track "

".

 

The interesting part is the SNS boys from EXO, Baekhyun and Chanyeol, posted on their Instagram about the “Super Blue Blood Moon†and hashtagged #Countdown and #ElectricKiss. Making it clear this is no coincidence.

 

Genius Idol Baekhyun posted a shot of himself holding the moon with his beautiful fingers.

 

 

While Chanyeol posted a picture he took live of the “Super Blue Blood Moon†and another picture of the eclipse from MAMA. (Swipe to the right)

 

 

 

 

5. Partial Solar Eclipse:

 

A partial solar eclipse will occur on July 13, 2018.

Which happens to be the 1st day of EXO's encore concert for "The Eâ„“yXiOn" tour : The Eâ„“yXiOn [dot].

II. Introducing EXO's Universes:

 

1. Parallel Universe:

 

After the mysterious “Total Eclipse†teaser, EXO released another interesting teaser titled “Parallel Universe†hinting to the existence of a different universe in EXO’s story. The teaser features the EXO members in a geek and cute attire playing around, accompanied by a snippet of the beats of the song

(another b-side song from The Power of Music).

 

A Kpop song that I would like to recommend.

 

the logo is very interesting (EXO PLANET : EP.2641)

 

 

 

 

2. EXO and the different universes:

 

On September, 2017, EXO released their repackage album "The Power of Music" (TPOM) and directly introduced the different universes in EXO’s through a comic and cute set of animation.

3. Power Universe:

 

Power's MV itself is very science-fiction, it features EXO members in a parallel universe, it looks like they are inside a virtual game, they are using laser guns to fight a Robot controlled by "The Red Force" (mentioned in the beginning) to get back their Superpower Balls.

4. Café Universe:

 

To end the year of 2017 beautifully, EXO drops a set of teasers for their new song "Universe", a rock ballad that features EXO members' strong and beautiful voices while taking this chance to introduce a new universe to EXO's story.

"Café Universe" is a calm universe where you can chill and drink coffee prepared by baristas EXO.

 

 

 

 

 

 

5. EXO - Universe (the song):

 

EXO made a whole song about searching the "Universe". accompanied with a pretty Sepia color scheme and beige/brown coats and sweaters and some Burberry.

 

 

 

 

IV. Other anecdotes:

 

1. EXO-L website:

 

Remember back in 2014, when the EXO-L website launched and everyone and their grandmas tried resisting to the point the server broke down for a week. it took me few days before i was able to register and get my EXO-L card. i also remember cheating to get the answers to the EXO members planet quiz.

 

But it was worth it, the website is very beautiful and showcases EXO's theme well, through the constellation formed by the members' superpower signs and a galaxy background.

 

 

 

 

 

2. EXO Constellations:

 

It's very popular among the fans, for its dreamy and minimalist design.

 

 

 

 

 

3. EXO - Sing For You:

 

Known as the angsty tumblr song (my favorite EXO ballad song). It shows the story of "The Astronaut and the Space Whale". Very fitting for EXO's space theme.

 

 

 

 

 

 

4. EXO - Lightsaber:

 

The part that makes EXO's whole concept amazing is this collaboration song between the legendary saga "Star Wars" and EXO. Showing EXO members in our modern era holding their own customized Lightsabers while going through their "normal" life.

 

(notice the bgm sounds from Star Wars being incorporated in the song, like the Darth Vader sound in the beginning, then the saber sound or the spaceship sound at the end)

 

 

 

 

 

5. TPOM cover:

 

I can't finish this post without mentioning my favorite EXO album cover, "The Power of Music" showing a comic art of the members giving a galactic wars vibe to introduce their new comic book that explains more their story.

Excellent thread hyakku, thanks for your effort. I hope it this thread can be as fun and entertaining as the one last year.

 

Like goldfinch i want to see the mask concept brought to life. With exo you just cant guess what they are going to do next. I wonder if there will be continuation of the story from sweet lies which ends with baekhyun landing here on earth.

 

But their arrival was already shown in the debut teasers so i guess not...

 

Somebody needs to recap the whole exo story in sequence so that we can guess where its going to go from here.

 

With the dark concept, i guess they will pick it up from where monster.
