smrookies girls 1,085 Posted May 16, 2018 Share Posted May 16, 2018 A lot of popular girlgroups debuted/will debut this year and as you know, Mnet nominate 5 girl groups each year for Rookie Award so who will be lucky enough to be nominated? The strong contenders for now are: fromis_9: good popularity in Korea and Japan, not monsters rookies but their popularity is not bad. They probably wouldn't be nominated if they weren't Mnet's daughters and only permanent girl group (a girl group that they push a lot). But they are so we can think that Mnet will probably want to nominate them. (g) idle: already really popular, the definition of monster rookies this year. sr18g (smngg): first of all they are from sm and i've never ever seen mnet not nominating a big3 group for ROTY. second, with promo only known by the fandom (because yes, they have activities for months but sm just don't promote it) they are already popular and trend very often on pann and instiz and only have good comments. Strong visuals, a lot of talents and some members already very known in Korea or China (such as Lami, Ningning or even Jungyeon who's the daughter of a famous singer) with a dedicated fandom. They have everything to succeed and be nominated this year. jypngg: just like smngg, they are from big3 so there's no reason that mnet won't nominate them. They also have a strong fandom (including intl) and have extremely popular members such as Somi and Ryujin. I don't know them but i'm sure they have a lot of talent too. I don't see why they wouldn't be nominated. produce48: already a lot of hype and if IOI and Wanna One were popular, I don't see why Produce48 wouldn't, especially with members even more known and popular than Somi or Nu'est like Jurina and Sakura (if they make it to the group of course). Like fromis_9, they will be mnet's temporary daughters for 2.5 years so Mnet will probably want to nominate them even if they do bad (which I doubt) loona: they are predebut but already have a strong fandom (at least intl) and are quite known in Korea. If Loona stans finally decide to buy their albums instead of only focusing on youtube views, they will probably sell a lot and be monster rookies, like Idle. It would be suprising if Mnet don't nominate them but who knows? There's already 6 groups that are strong contenders to be nominated, one of them won't. But there's other groups who should debut soon and could be dark horses and here i'm thinking of Fave Girls (who for me can be like The Boyz, therefore popular) and maybe Polaris Girls and FNCNGG if FNC finally debut them. That being said, in your opinion, which groups will be nominated this year? I'm talking only about nominees, not about who will win so please don't bash other groups. You try buying a 2 song mini PREDEBUT album from your faves almost every month. most people are waiting to put their energy into the debut album although recently the predebut album sales have increased a bit. Yes, they've gained a lot of intl popularity but there's no way to judge how big their debut will be domestically. And two groups will win.. like Pristin and Chungha won something... Best Rookie and Best of Next Award lol (they will probably give best of new to Fromis..)
