Jonghyun was suffering from depression, a mental health disorder. It's very tasteless and insensitive to use him as an example.
Money is surely important when it comes down to support. Making music has it's expenses and the pocket change made from digital sales isn't covering them.
Beginning a world tour at Korea's biggest venue (Seoul Olympic Stadium w/ a 70k max capacity) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> "Topping the charts"~. BTS, iirc, receives 80% of the profits from touring btw.
Kpop fans tend to overrated Korea's mainstream music scene and put it on a pedestal. Korea's 'general public' does not invest in artist or their music.
The songs that chart well are usually designated, radio friendly songs that are created to appeal mass/mainstream. What are most of the songs on melon's top 100 about? I'll give you a hint, "❤[/size]". And genre wise. outside of idol music, there's not that much diversity. Quite frankly, it's some of these (performance based*) male idol groups that are the ones creating the non-mainstream music in Korea. Well after all, Korea's mainstream isn't their target audience, bcuz of the lack of support for concerts/albums/touring.
Acts who only have chart performance - only really have very casual listeners. When most 'popular' acts release an album, how come it's usual one song (the designated title track) that does well? People who ~are of fans/acknowledges one's music~ would check out the entire album. The Korean public doesn't support 'albums' (digitally or physically) or buy concert tickets, they only support 'singles'. Topping charts doesn't mean one is genuinely being acknowledged.
You talk like the likes of bigbang , gd or IU ( who is a digital monster ) are poor ?
Or people like ed sheeran , adele are poor & doesn't make money ? Lmao
Busker busker made $3.8m with only ONE digital song https://www.soompi.c...blossom-ending/
They just sit at home without breaking any sweat and already rich
Digital sales has advantage , it might be cheap but there is almost NO cost as well unlike organising concert or producing album which requires human resources , For example how much it cost to rent Olympics stadium sis ?
How much it needed to rent Tokyo Dome ?
You think it's free ?
, you think they won't need to pay people , pay the promotor ? Tvxq might be making $100m but also spend at least 75% of it to conduct the concert before sm can take most of the profit and left them with dust
Singer with music relevancy is both rich & popular & their music is being enjoyed by everyone and their mother. That's the true meaning of success
