i want to stop thinking about my ex so i can move on

Recommended Posts

i was dating this guy for a few months until march when he decided to break the relationship with me. to this day i'm still heartbroken and i miss him a lot. there are times where i can't stop thinking about him and i wish we could go back together. there has been times where i wanted to text him, but i want to respect his wishes not to contact him.

now for the past few weeks i have talked to a new guy. he's super sweet and has a great personality, but i have a hard time dealing with my feelings of my ex. i feel guilty of having those on-going feelings towards my ex, because it's unfair to the new guy. i know i won't ever get back together with my ex, it's stupid to even think that, so basically, i want to stop having those feelings and move on with my life, but i can't.

what should i do?

I've totally been in this exact same position. What I ended up doing was just taking it slowly with the guy I was currently talking to to see if the feelings at least got smaller. For me they didn't, so I broke it off. However, if they had gotten fewer I would have continued talking to the guy!

Basically, if you at least can see yourself getting rid of the feelings soon, I'd keep talking to the guy!

I know it's discouraging but the only thing that'll help is time. It'll be a process but you won't feel this way forever.

Until the feelings subside, do things to distract you. Chill with friends, pick up a hobby etc

only time can help you,. maybe u should be honest with your new guy if you feel guilty

he knows about my past relationship, and told him i'm not with him just to forget my ex. even though i did tell him, i still feel super guilty, because i don't know if i'll ever stop having those feelings.

that's the thing, i don't know if my feelings will get smaller or stop soon. i guess, if things get more serious with the current guy, that's probably when i know i no longer have feelings for my ex.

i guess time is the only real answer to my dilemma, but isn't 2 months a lot of time?

Maybe you need to think more about yourself. I know apparently you were fine in the relationship but he wasn't. That probably plays a big part in your own feelings. You might try focusing on the bad points of your ex. Nobody is perfect. He must have had some things that bothered you. It might help to dull those remaining emotional attachments you have.

all of his good points outweigh his bad points, but i get what you are saying. i know 100 percent that i can't get back with him, it's impossible because of his state of mind and life situation. i need to keep that in mind, because why think about him and have those feelings when getting back together is unrealistic. even our mutual friend told me he will never have a real relationship, because he can't handle the thought of attachment.

deep down i do think i have the answer to my issue, but maybe i do need to give it more time to fully realise.
