tbf catholics aren't crying cultural appropriation, and they shouldn't be. I say let people take inspiration from religion for their clothing, it's a complete non-issue.

check twitter lmao they might not be saying cultural appropriation but i saw a tweet with thousands of retweets saying "my religion isnt your dress" lMAO

Ariana's dress is beautiful, but I hate the hairbow.

I would be more understanding of people being upset if they were wrapped in pages of the bible or Quran or something, but they're wearing illustrations/paintings/interpretations of stories/allegories. It looks like more a reinterpretation of the art rather than the religion imo. But that's just my O

I checked and there's only 1 tweet with like 600 RTs which is nothing (and then there are a few tweets mocking it with way more RTs)

Catholicism did spread around through imagery and the pope(s) loosened up many rules to make people convert so this is a all a bit ironic but i'm not a catholic so it's not my place to judge the situation or anyone if they're actually offended

saying that it's okay bc the vatican donated pieces is like saying it's okay for non hindus girls to wear bindis if bc mainland hindus dont care and even encourage it.

personally, i dont care, i think that art and religion are in a constant symbiotic relationship and one should be allowed to utilize the other. but considering the backlash that others have gotten for wearing or imitating religious garb (instead of a bindi we have priestly garb) or iconography (instead of kali we have dominions and jesus) of other religions, and the whole "you can't dictate offense" argument that often prefaces these situations, i do find this whole situation ironic. people who would typically think cultural appropriation is rubbish are offended and people who typically don't question the metrics of cultural appropriation are calling the offense fake or unwarranted.

Muslims cause a severe ruckus when their things get used by non-Muslims, Jews cause a severe ruckus too when this things get used by non-Jews.

There are celebrities who do not dare to do mockery with islam neither with Judaism.

There are many celebrities like Madonna who have played and did mockery of every religion out there.

Catholicism is practically one of the most accepted religions to make fun of and doing mockery out of it all the time

The thing is that disrespecting Catholicism is seen as cool, edgy and liberal while do the same disrespect to Muslims and Jews is not as seen the same ways

It's worth to mention that playing around with things from African religions will make anybody be considered a racist

Unless Black catholics complain nobody will take this seriously, cultural appropriaton only can be cause of revolt for Black people

nope even if black catholics complain i wouldnt take it serious. they act like their religion hasnt been the main religion of almost every colonist/apartheid type state such as when africa was colonised. their religion has made a bad name because of their people

none of the dresses were offensive in any way, they just took catholic/christian imagery and turned it into artsy outfits

they didn't in any way disrespect the religion

I do agree that this wouldn't have been allowed had the theme been any other religion or belief. christianity is an extremely easy target.
