[Editorial] The EXO Concert Ticketing Experience and the One Lucky Fan Who Got a Golden Ticket

As a special feature, Mwave is bringing you a look inside the ticketing experience of a K-Pop fan. Stay tuned for more inside looks at what it′s like to be a K-Pop fan living in Korea!

It was a day when I decided to be a good person and accompany a friend to the local PC bang (internet cafe) in her mission to grab a ticket to the EXO concert.

I have done concert ticketing before for Shinhwa, CN Blue, B.A.P, 2NE1, Big Bang, and a lot of other artists, but because it was EXO, and I repeat, EXO, I felt that this was going to be a different kind of experience than before.

Usually PC bangs are mainly filled with men, but on May 8, the majority of the seats in the PC bang we chose were seated by women, and all of their computer screens were locked on Gmarket.

As time began to tick away, closer and closer to 8PM, you could feel the tension rise with all the ladies in the rooms, grabbing their mouse, getting ready to click away. Several girls even started to count down the time to the exact seconds.

Then…it was finally 8PM.

Two seconds later, the entire PC bang erupted into groans and screams, and I burst into laughter, knowing that everyone’s computer screens were exactly the same as mine – an apology notice saying servers are unreachable due to a sudden swarm of people.

But ticketing didn’t stop there.

All the fans began to click away, refreshing the page with every notice that popped up. Some tossed profanity into the air, while others remained concentrated and quiet.

Then we heard one girl cry out in happiness, screaming, “I GOT IT!†
All the fans began to applaud her for a few seconds, blurting out comments, mixed of congratulations and jealousy before going back into ticketing mode.

Second highlight of the EXO ticketing experience: someone began to play EXO’s Baby Don’t Cry on her phone as the seats started selling out.

Like I said earlier, I have done concert ticketing before, but this was the first time I couldn’t get past the main page to the seating charts, no matter how many times I refreshed the page.

After 30 minutes of mindless clicking, my poor friend threw her hands in the air, and sadly nudged me so we could go home.

One person.
Just one person out 20 something fans in the PC Bang was able to get a ticket to the EXO concert.

From an outsider′s point of view, it may have just been a ticket to a concert for an idol group, but for that lucky girl, she looked like she had just won the lottery.

Well, that's me yesterday, although I was at  home in front of my computer cursing off, instead of embarrassing myself in a public place. LOL

I was a bit hesitant about going to this concert, anyways, b/c I think it's most likely I'll just hear girls screaming instead of actual EXO singing throughout the concert. Prly I'll just make a summer trip to a place EXO is giving a concert with a more quieter audience, if such a place exists.

Haha...less crazy audience then. It won't be Korea or China, though I want to visit Tao's hometown...heard it's a beautiful place.

My home country is Indonesia, but I'm now living in a country where no any concert ever happen lol, in the Middle East.

So, my only chance is Indonesia :)

Ahhh well, sorry to hear that. But if an EXO concert happens in the country where you're in now, I'll consider going there b/c they'll likely have quieter audience than Koreans/Chinese.  :)

Such a dilemma. I kinda wish they'd do more concerts, so more people can get a chance to see them and also in Europe plz, but that would probably be at the expense of variety shows etc., which are of course equally important...oh, and I'd also like my boys to get some rest whenever they can....ugh.

Japan, unless the concerts overrun with foreigners, I guess.

The more I read things like that the more I'm sure I wouldn't have the patience to do something like that for any artist. It's just too much stress.
