English churches warned people about South korean cults infiltrating congregations- by running bible study courses!

Recommended Posts

Reading about jyp and the bible studies and the cult reminded me of this english article about how a south korean cult where luring in members in uk by using a diffrent name, inviting Christians to bible study.

it fits JYP so much,

"

"Hundreds of British churches, including some of the UK’s largest congregations, have been warned against possible infiltration by a group accused of being a “cult†promoting “control and deceptionâ€.

The Church of England has issued a formal alert to almost 500 parishes in London about the activities of the group known as Parachristo. The organisation, a registered charity, runs Bible study courses at an anonymous industrial unit under a Botox clinic and a personal training company in London Docklands.

But it is understood to be linked to a controversial South Korean group known as Shinchonji (SCJ) – or the “New Heaven and New Earth†church (NHNE) – whose founder Man-Hee Lee is referred to as God’s “advocateâ€.

It is claimed that some of those who become involved gradually withdraw from friends and family and actively lie about their real lives.  Some are said to have also given up their jobs or university courses. Many have made trips to Korea and Switzerland.

Members of the group, which has links around the world, are alleged to have visited large evangelical congregations in London inviting worshippers to special study groups.

One British man is said to have gone to work with the group full time, sleeping in bunks while telling family and friends he was busy pursuing a high-flying career in the City.

Among churches openly warning parishioners is Holy Trinity Brompton, one of the UK’s biggest congregations, known as the home of the Alpha Course, the short introduction to Christianity which has been used by at least 15 million people.

HTB, as it is commonly known, counts about 4,000 in the pews on a Sunday as well as having “planted†35 other congregations.

It is regarded as effectively the spiritual home of the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev Justin Welby, who was a longstanding member  before his own ministry.

Parachristo was formally registered with the Charity Commission this summer as a religious organisation operating “throughout England†for the benefit of “mankindâ€.

Its official aims are stated as advancing Christianity by running Bible classes to “strengthen the commitment of members of the religion†and “enlighten†others.

The group lists a business unit near Canary Wharf in east London as its headquarters, while offering a telephone number which does not operate and a website address which has been “suspendedâ€. Those who attend its three-month course are not told initially about links with SCJ but the group strongly denies that this is deceptive.

In a message to all clergy in London last month, the Diocese of London’s safeguarding team said there had been complaints about the group, adding “it has been alleged that they have links to a cultâ€.

tldr:

One big tacic of cults in recruiting members is having these bible study, general christianty seminars. they know if they openly use their name alot of people wont turn up or be willing to listen. they have cut members in attendance too.

LOL, i think this is what jyp was doing at bible study.

You know what is the difference between a sect and a religion? Time and reputation

i use to study sociology and cults was a thing i studied (hence ehy i made this thread, i find it intresting), there is small difference.

the main definition of cult is â€˜â€œ a secretive group that brainwashes its members into engaging in obscene and harmful practices for the sake of a charismatic leader."

the sect people are relating to jyp is the salvation sect, and their main belief is that " those who were once saved by God are completely detached from the sins they will ever commit in the future and guaranteed a path to heaven.[9]"

basically once you have been saved by god it doesnt mater how many sins u commit after sinc eyou will go to heaven anyway. that is a very very dangerous and poisonus belief for a religion to have. and is why other Christian groups refer to them as a cult. the group has already had a mass suicide incident.

I'm grateful I have a strong mind when it comes to stuff like this, no one has ever been able to sway me. We had a Scientology centre next to our house for a short while and those creeps would constantly try to talk to me, give me leaflets etc etc etc And lmao I joined the Islamic society for like an hour at Uni but noped out when I realised how backward they were.

I hope we can help the people taken in by these cults.

It is indeed a flawed logic, i'm sure this ideology was crafted for people extremely fearful of death in mind and this resulted in this serious loophole. I just find it funny when religions try to do morals when they have exploited people for centuaries

pretty sure it's bad people with intentions using "religion" as a front to exploit others by twisting words

Here in Sydney, we are also facing a similar problem. Our Catholic parish is a small one so when another church group (albeit a christian one) offered to hire our church for couple of days a week we thought it'd be a good idea.

lo and behold, our members are starting to shrink and we found out that this church has been poaching our members.

Worse yet, we found out from a couple of members that those that have left have cut all ties with us and even with their own family members that are not of the same sect.

We are currently in the process of cutting the arrangement.

In passing, they look like regular people, just goes to show, you can never be too careful

here in my country there are around 2 christian Churches that, that no matter what they are saved and will go to Heaven. One of those churches believed that all of us that are not part of their religion are children of the devil so technically you can't call something a cult because they believe in that sh*t lol although I have to say its a very creepy way  of thinking.

If JYP is part of it then he is a piece of sh*t but so far the only evidence is a bunch of pictures doing a bible study and contradicting to what I said earlier in one of the threads, I just realized that its supposed to be innocent until proven guilty and not the other way around so they should just do a full investigation again since the 2014 one was apparently not enough so that we can sort the guilty from the non guilty and stop throwing names around bec I have a feeling that once names are gonna be thrown, its gonna get super messy
