TVXQ earns the most amongst SM singers – SBS One Night of Entertainment

About how the deciding factor for shareholders in relation to singers is the profits from overseas royalties, and in turn, the majority proportion of overseas royalty profits arises from concerts.

Expert 1: if a singer has the kind and level of ability to go around on a tour of 5 big Domes in Japan, that singer will be a singer who earns a lot of money. When those type of businesses translates into concert profits, the share prices go up.

Expert 2: TVXQ, as just one group alone, generated more than 100 billion won in sales in Japan last year. They had a tour concert in 7 cities, and from that, the ticket sales revenuealone was about 90 billion won. And their MD products sales revenue was about 10 billion won. So they generated sales of close to 100 billion won.

Host: In Japan alone? So currently in SM, the singers who are earning the most money is TVXQ?

Expert 1: TVXQ’s proportion is the highest, and the friends who have emerged as the dark horses are EXO.

And I'm always amased at how modest TVXQ always are despite being top group for such a long time
After 10 years still going so strong
Some new fans think that TVXQ lost their popularity significantly and make comebacks only once in 1,5 year but the truth is their workplace is Japan  were they earn much more than almost all other  idols could imagine

Like people before me said everyone already knew this. They have so massive concert tours and concert tours are the thing that idols and companies make most money.

So... Is TVXQ still big in Japan? To get all that revenue from Japan alone, without counting Korean releases.

And what about Exo being mentioned? Are they the second top earner? Damn...

yeah they're extremely big in Japan. easily the most popular kpop group there. they are even more popular there now than they were before the split. fanclub membership for Bigeast is currently at its peak (300k+). that's why they tour there extensively and have for the last three years - touring brings in the most cashola, moreso than album releases

I think they mentioned Exo as rising star when they also start having really big concert tours they are also gonna be one of the SM top earners.

but last year they were still on 5th place behind Super Junior, TVXQ, SNSD, Shinee

One of the biggest pitfalls of girl groups is their inability to tour domes. I wonder if SM will gradually stop debuting girl groups altogether as even nation's sweethearts like SNSD can't make as much money from CFs and arena tours as boy groups can from dome tours?

Yes, this

I just wish they would put more effort and attention into SK as much effort and attention into SK as they do Japan.... I know it's pointless, but don't consider the money for a second, and just think the people who can't watch your Japanese material   :chu:  haha

Japan is more interested in them than SK generally so it figures that they concentrate their efforts there to be honest. Cassies are still big in Korea but more divided, Japanese fans are more loyal overall and Bigeast fanclub is bigger than it's ever been. I don't mind that they concentrate there to be honest since as an international fan I'm gonna acquire it all somehow anyway. plus concert dvds yeeeeeahhhhhhhh (SK doesn't do concert dvds enough)

You mean turn into the Korean Johnny's?? While SM def takes a lot inspiration from them, this would never happen.

I think you're probably underestimating the impact GG had on SM. I mean, SNSD brings much more to the company than just cash. Girl groups help the company stay relevant with the public, and keep them in their good graces, stuff like that. SM is gonna try everything in their power to replicate and keep replicating that in the future

I hope they are still slaying this year considering that TREE is such a good album <3

Totally unrelated to Tohoshinki, but EXO will be promoted in Japan eventually and I hope SM will put more effort in ensuring more members can speak the language instead of relying on one member only (read: SNSD). It's so frustrating to see these new groups slacking off when Tohoshinki worked their assess off from the bottom

It's so fucking frustrating that they air shit like this on TV.

This and what was said about Kim Soo Hyun making $18 million on CFs in 2 months and raising the Key East's market cap.

No fucking wonder that people are so terribly delulu.

This report about TVXQ is correct in that they generate total sales of about 100 billion won, but that's the total sales at the final step in the value chain. That's not how much SM/TVXQ get.

Also, OP please stop using SME as abbreviation for SM.

SME is the commonly used acronym for Sony Music Entertainment which is the 2nd biggest music company in the world and the #1/#2 music company in Japan. So it gets confusing as fuck if you by yourself decide to call SM as SME because everyone will think you mean Sony Music Entertainment.
