Interesting stuff regarding the jyp scandal.

Recommended Posts

Turns out park jin young was the son in law of Yoo Byung-ho. The younger brother of the late Yoo Byung-Eun. The latter was the owner of the Chonghaejin Marine Co, that operated the sewol ferry.  Yoo Byung-ho was sentenced to two years in prison due to embezzlement.

The yoo family and confidants are considered responsible for the sewol ferry disaster due to their mismanagement of the company and  safety violations.

Also here is the article about the salvation sect, their relation to the yoo family and the sewol ferry incident.

The religious sect and the sunken South Korean ferry As public anger grows in South Korea over the hundreds of deaths in the Sewol ferry disaster, SBS Dateline has gained rare access to investigate the ferry company’s mysterious owner.

NBC Dateline/August 12, 2014

By SBS Dateline

The official inquiry has already seen the resignation of three high profile figures including the Prime Minister and millions have signed a petition calling for a new independent investigation.

But it’s the disappearance and then mysterious death of the billionaire shipping owner Yoo Byung-eun that has added to the web of intrigue and unanswered questions behind the disaster.

“What all Koreans want is the truth,†Choi Kyung-deok tells Mary Ann Jolley from Dateline, in the report to be broadcast on SBS ONE tonight at 9.30pm.

His only child, 16-year-old Sungho, was among the more than 300 people killed when the boat capsized in April. Around 250 of them were teenagers on a school excursion to the island resort of Jeju.

“They were all beautiful, what a great loss, all of them,†he says in the emotional interview accompanied by his wife Eom So-young. “We’re saying don’t try to hide it, tell us the truth.â€

It quickly became apparent that the ferry was dangerously unstable with a poorly trained crew and that the disorganised rescue operation could have saved many more lives.

But what has also become clear is the extent of ferry owner Yoo Byung-eun’s embezzlement of millions of dollars through his Evangelical Baptist Church, known as the Salvation Sect.

“He’s a very successful businessman, making lots of money. He distributed that money to the politicians,†says Professor Tark Ji-il, who’s an expert in Korean religious cults.

“I think that’s kind of the insurance to protect himself, to prepare for a case like the Sewol tragedy,†he tells Mary Ann.

When Yoo Byung-eun fled shortly after the disaster, 9,000 police were sent to look for him in the country’s biggest ever manhunt.

As that search continued, Mary Ann managed to get a rare invitation to see inside the sect’s compound and finds that their view of what happened is very different.

“I think the biggest possibility would be a submarine,†Salvation Sect spokesman Lee Tae-jong tells Mary Ann when she asks about the cause of the accident.

“When the ferry arrived nothing came up on the radar, which is why the object must have been underwater,†he says.

Mary Ann puts the theory to one of South Korea’s leading marine engineers, Professor Lee Sang-Yun, but he dismisses it as “complete nonsenseâ€.

But before Yoo Byung-eun could be brought to justice, authorities announced that he was dead. His body had been found a month earlier in a plum orchard, but was so badly decomposed it had only just been identified.

Conspiracy theories are rife over whether it was murder or suicide, and whether it was an attempt to cover up corruption involving government officials. Some don’t believe it was even his body.

“I think they found a homeless man’s body and not Yoo Byung-eun’s,†says Lee Tae-jong from the Salvation Sect.

“While they were chasing Yoo Byung-eun, they arrested him elsewhere and he possibly died during the chase,†he tells Mary Ann. “I think that’s when they could have swapped the body.â€

The captain of the Sewol and three of its crew are currently on trial charged with murder and the ferry company, Chonghaejin Marine, is now in receivership.

Meanwhile, the government is continuing to chase the Yoo family’s wealth, which is held in a labyrinth of companies and shareholdings and estimated to be worth around $240 million.

So if jyp is in fact part of the salvation sect, it shouldn't be too much of a surprise.

JYP is not mentioned

That was certainly an interesting read, I always say that when whatever can be considered a pandora's box opens s..t will come out

He wasn't mentioned in that article but I figured everyone needed to know what happened with the sect and the sewol ferry incident. And you can see that the spokeswoman's words didn't make much sense. So the sect probably was involved. And jyp married the niece of the founder of the sect so he has familial ties with the sect.

I read about that. It's all so interesting chaos to look at from outside. It's going to be interesting watch the journey for JYP to prove he have nothing to do with anything and anybody.

"park jin young was the son in law of Yoo Byung-ho."

Is this referring to the ex-wife, Seo Yoon-jeong?  If so, why does she not have the "Yoo" family name?

Not enough details or facts to connect any dots in a meaningful way.  If true, it definitely is interesting that JYP had close connections to the Yoo family of Sewol Ferry infamy.  But it doesn't connect him with any of the corrupt dealings of that family.  JYP obviously would not have been involved in any managerial way with the ferry business and it's hard to imagine that he was involved in any way with the other corrupt business practices relating to that business.

I won't be jumping to any conclusions about this particular "scandal".

I've never liked JYP's quasi-pornographic/hyper sexualized performances on stage (and if he gets up to that nonsense on stage, who knows about off stage...).  But that's a different subject, I guess.

Simple guilt by association should not apply and he shouldn't have to prove anything, unless somebody has solid evidence that he was actively involved in wrongdoing.  But in the world today, it seems like nobody really attaches importance to things like "innocent until proven guilty" and the burden of proof is always on the accused instead of on the accusers.

Yeah, I was wondering about that possibility.  If the connection is through the 2nd wife, I guess that will come out soon.  Interesting that he has been able to keep the name of his current wife secret from everyone for 5 years.  "Hey, I'm married, but nobody can know who I'm married to."  Surely, he's taken her to parties and public events and hundreds, if not thousands of people have been introduced..  If not, it must be a strange relationship.

Back in 2014 JYP was accused of the same reasons, and after an investigation it was declared the company was clean

JYP Entertainment under investigation

A related news story (April 30, 2014) says that JYP Entertainment is now being investigated and having its accounts tracked by the FSS (Financial Supervisor Service) for any relevant link to the Salvation Sect.

People must have a short memory because this is OLD and JYP was cleared of all suspicion of having anything to do with this.

Exactly and it's funny as hell how you got negged for saying this even though it's true. These fuckers don't give a damn about anybody all they care about is having the damn tea.

Agree with you completely

It's his duty to clean his name, image and reputation

I was not saying he was guilty of anything

At the time he announced his wedding he said her name and face shouldn't be out in the media since she's not a celebrity. I mean only picture of her that I've seen was from a dinner date and you can't really see her body since the focus was on jyp and her face is blurred out.

I can understand why they would want to keep her out of the spotlight.  She's not a public figure herself and there's no reason for her to be exposed to a lot of the craziness that gets focused on celebrities.  I'm just surprised that they've been so successful at maintaining her privacy and anonymity for  5 years, given how famous JYP is. Maybe JYP can teach other celebrities how to do the same for their spouses.

No he didn’t keep it a secret because right after the sewol ferry people did brought up the connection. He barely married the girl 3 months when the sewol happened and he came out stating he’s an atheist. Considering he just married and he claimed that he’s atheist, plus people were more focused on Yoo Bung Eon at the time, his news were just passed. People didn’t think it’s appropriate to blame him considering the short duration of marriage.
