Today marks the 20th Death Anniversary of hide, solo artist and guitarist of X-Japan, who passed away on 2nd May 1998. Other than his musical accomplishments, he had a keen eye for potential bands as he was the one who discovered LUNA SEA and GLAY and introduced them to Yoshiki to be signed onto Extasy Records.

Japan times article: Hide: The musician whose death rocked Japan.

Here are some of his performances and tribute performances.

hide - Misery (a song he wrote for Mayuko, a fan with terminal illness)

LUNA SEA covering hide's Rocket Dive in 2015 LUNATIC FEST

X-Japan performing Forever Love at hide's funeral

X-Japan - Rusty Nail (hide's last live with X-Japan.)

Around a month ago I watched some Japanese talk show, where one of the X-Japan members (the pianist) was talking about the band and their journey. How they tried to break into the American market, and the struggles that came with it, that may have affected everyone. It was a big hit for everyone when Hide died. And how they all went their separate ways later. Well, that's as mush as I could understand from the program.

Ahh X-Japan. They have a dear place in my heart. This is my favourite performance of Forever Love. So emotional.

I think you may be referring to their recent documentary film "We Are X", here is a portion of the film which covers the period of hide's death.

Pata's speech at 6:05 killed me when he said "Looking back, the Last Live became hide's last performance. We had no idea then."
