Are newer kpop fans more charts/ranking-centric?

Well, it's like being born into a cult. Since they are new, this type of chart obsession is all they know. It's only been getting worse.

As for supporting Nugus, I'm really getting into Fromis although I wish they would change concepts but...

And I'm also getting into The Boyz even though it's been like 3 days and I can't tell more than 2 apart. I've never struggled to learn idol group faces like I do with the boyz, especially Hwal and Kevin who I swear take turns shifting into each other.

Chart/ranking updates annoy the hell out of me simply because I see fans tweeting/posting about them every 5-10 minutes. If the updates came like every couple of hours or once or twice a day, I wouldn't be so annoyed.

I get it. They sold 3 more albums in those ten minutes. I don't need an update about that.

yes. new kpop fans first check gaon and melon and then pick who to stan. that's the current ritual of entrance to the world of kpop. back then these evil things didn't exist everyone only cared about the gee gee gee gee gee baby baby

There's charts and rankings for every little thing now. Daily, weekly, monthly, annually...

Kpop websites create new rankings for fans to compete over.

Fans hesitating to support nugu groups unless they pull a Momoland

Yes

Especially whatever western ranking there possibly is

So twice as bad.

Don't know which is the end which is the beginning. Probably a cycle but it happened more or less because of,

1. Frequent flop name calling. Naturally fans would find their way to prove them wrong. How? Well. Physical sale. Digital. Youtube views. You know, chart. Gotta collect all the receipt. Aren't fun when people call your best-selling bias a flop, now is it. Even group that do well nowadays still got called a flop group. Must have triggered some fans. Tbh they do have a reason to be triggered.

2. Bragging rights, 'my bias is better than yours', 'the king', 'the queen', etc.

Tho if we want to be honest, it's fandom culture. Don't join any fandom. Listen to the song. Stay away from twitter fanwar. Happy life 101.

They are afraid of getting grilled in a fandom war. That's why just listen to the music in peaceimstupid.png

Like idk but usually people don’t get interested in sales until they are like a huge kpop stan... like I didn’t even know what melon or gaon was until prob like 5 months in. Personally I like the numbers/data and my favs doing well... but plenty of people don’t care. Also I don’t know why people act like this is new. I remember when I was in to one direction we were all trying to get their albums charting high on billboard and tried to break “most views in 24 hours†records and that was in 2012/2013.
