GetRapper 6,139
9Muses is not one of my bias groups, but I listen to their songs a lot. So much so that I created a specific Spotify playlist of their stuff, it's good workout music as well as background while doing homework. While listening to them at the gym today, I decided to pay attention a little bit more to understand why I've played their music so much since I "rediscovered" them after Love City came out last year. It hit me when I was listening to Gun: the reason I've been digging 9Muses so much is because the music written for them is well crafted with unique arrangements and hooks galore! For those who don't know, the songwriting team Sweetune wrote a lot of 9Muses material for most of their existence, meaning that even though the group itself has had a lot of turnover of personnel, the music quality has always stayed high. Take Gun for example, the instrumental is unique in that it has a guitar solo in the intro, surf guitar riffs and horns which don't play the main melody but accentuates the track and makes it more memorable. The bridge is beautiful and I love how the rap comes in right after. Next, I'll talk about Drama. Again, the instrumental is incredible with thumping bass, electric piano and horns. I like how their voices are treated like an instrument during the verses with the lilting notes at the end of each line. It's amazing how the raps intertwine with the sung verses, which speaks to creative arrangement. (take notes, EXID composers and arrangers!) I will now discuss a non-promoted track now called Whatever off their studio album Primadonna. An electropop instrumental with a catchy beat and bouncy synths, the chord progression in the chorus is totally unexpected and makes the song stand out. Again, the arrangement is impeccable in that the vocal lines are treated like an instrument and don't follow the main melody at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg3btIeL2cA Lastly, I will talk about Sleepless Night. Brave Brothers wrote this one, but the quality is still very high! The music is very melancholy and atmospheric, but melodic at the same time. The piano playing throughout the song is so beautiful. I like how BB uses a drum track but intersperses organic sounding drum fills to move the song along. The girls' voices are soft and blend in well with the music. It's weird, my girl group biases are After School and Red Velvet but I've been listening to the subject of this post a lot more, especially lately. The reason I started stanning AS is for their live performances and their unique concepts more than their music. Their Japanese discography blows away their Korean one, which speaks to composition and arrangement again. RV has an awesome discog as well, but I believe their talent as a group vocally and aesthetically carries some of their material, not the other way around. I give credit to 9Muses, I really appreciate their longevity and awesome discography but it's hard to stan them because they change members constantly so it's hard to keep a bias (I'm leaning toward Keumjo now, please don't leave!). Still, I listen to them on a regular basis and watch their MV's from time to time, so I give them major props. Wow, that was a long post! If you read the whole thing, thank you! IsleSorna 233
Yeah Sweettune is a large part of my love for early 9Muses. Once they lost Sera, Eunji and Lee Sem their sound kinda changed too significantly for me to really enjoy them, but I recognize that they've released well-produced bops post the line-up changes. News, Figaro, Glue, Wild, Ticket tho
lovery 438
9Muses can be split into lineups pretty much... I'm a huge fan of the 2013 and 2015 lineups, those comebacks offered me the absolute most. ... current 9Muses is very different from the version of the group I enjoyed, not only are the songs very different but my favorite member, Minha is gone and the songs honestly don't sound like 9Muses songs without Euaerin to me... Sojin I wouldn't relegate to rapping at all, I'd rather they just not have a rapper at all with the newest lineup. But anyway my favorite title tracks from them are News, Ticket, Wild, Gun, and Sleepless Night which is really soft and holds a special place in my heart because Minha actually got lines and screentime!! ^o^

blackpearl.mp3 271
Well written OP! Even though 9Muses have had many lineup changes, they keep on releasing really good music. None of them were mentioned but my favourite title tracks from them are Remember and Wild.
