I don't know all the details so correct me if I'm wrong: didn't mnet make the group to promote in Korea as a kpop group? The brand PD101 mess @ me ;/ sorry initially I did think so. since prod101 took AKB's senbatsu election idea and modified it for a tv show. in that way, the prod101 groups were like temporary 'korean 48' groups. I do wonder if the next season will be japanese and korean trainees competing to debut in japan because then that'd totally be creeping into AKB territory / domain lol.
