There’s Dir En Grey, An cafe, Sug, Golden Bomber, Nightmare. That’s all I could think of. You got gazette and A9 already.

Azlina

Marionette Overture

Royz

I suggest follow these bands in YouTube and you’ll get recommendations from it.

Maybe it's not dead then...just evolving? XD

Don't know why, but that creeps the fuck out of me...something about the girl weaving/swaying behind him as if trying to stay hidden. Makes me think of one of those Japanese ghost girl movies... >.< XD

Me too! And I didn’t even noticed this before.

vocalists in videos posted here looked like they spent hours with Dr. Kim.

Nah just heavy makeup and eyelid tape and high studio light. Maybe they got their eyes done but it’s not.

Do you want new one or you would like old ones too? The most "famous" ones of this era are deviloof, DIAURA and pentagon but deviloof has a lot of screemo and growls in there and i know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

There was also MEJIBRAY, also screemo and growl, but they disbanded because there was mess, some members reunited in a new project called 8P-SB but it's very new, i don't think

Old ones but still active: MERRY, BUCK-TICK, LUNA SEA Versailles and Kamijo in general [their skitch is dressing as old french nobles vampires, btw]

Inactive but my favourite: malice mizer, especially the gackt era, and X Japan, X still do things but their last album was a long time ago

i want mostly new and active ones because i do know a lot of the older ones and like you said, most of my favs are inactive now. But I'm going to check out all the ones you listed that I don't know. Thanks for this!

Deviloof sounds like they might be similar to 12012.

I thought I'd throw in some recommendations. Black Gene was one of my favorite bands of this decade, but they broke up in 2016. They referred to their sound as Trance Rock. They put out allot of good music in a short amount of time.

Kiryu is one of the more popular bands from this decade. I haven't liked some of their recent material, but they've been around for at least 10 yrs., so I think they've started to run out of ideas. Here's one from a few years ago. They incorporate traditional Japanese music into their songs and have sort of an off kilter sound. *Warning: There's blood if you're not into that sort of thing.

Kodomo Dragon are on the same label as Kiryu and Royz, and while I think some of there recent material has been lackluster, I think they're starting to find their groove again.

Metronome has been around for 15+ yrs. and finally made their Major Label debut last year. They've been pretty prolific and consistent with their releases. Here's something from their Major Album. *Quick note: If you want to search for more music, you'll have to copy and paste their Japanese name メトロノーム. Otherwise you won't get the right results.

Since I'm exceeding 4 videos, I'll just post the links for this last recommendation. Kuro Yuri to Kage is one of the heavier bands out there. They started out under a different name, Memento Mori, and incorporated some Traditional elements into the songs. When they got tired of that, all of the members except for the drummer started Kuro Yuri to Kage. Their music didn't change much, it just got heavier and they eliminated the Traditional elements. Very consistent releases. Sadly, they just disbanded this year.

it is never dead. Just... the groups I used to listened to are mostly not active anymore

.

.

also, goddamn, the vocalist's lips are on point

Of course it's not...it's just very niche.

Would Band-Maid and Aldious be considered Visual Kei?

Not dead, but it's been declining for a while. It's a tough genre to be in because you have to constantly release music, otherwise you have nothing to sell when you go on tour. You don't make allot of money and allot of groups get burned out. It surprises me that people still start new bands. I don't know if there'll ever be a resurgence, but I don't think Visual Kei will completely disappear.

While Band-Maid and Aldious incorporate Visual elements, I wouldn't consider them Visual Kei. When bands laid the foundation for the Visual Kei scene in the 1980's, it was essentially Japan's equivalent of Glam Rock. A big part of Glam is being androgynous. Visual Kei evolved over the decades to incorporate more elaborate costumes, but the androgynous element has remained. In the 2000s, more Japanese Artists and Idols started incorporating heavier Visuals into their image so "Visual Kei" has lost some of it's meaning.

Yes, I don't think it will disappear. I think some of them (new visual kei bands) are young adults around my age (?) who probably growing up listening to, well, stuffs from Gazette, maybe ViViD, any bands from PSC, etc etc. The culture is still going on, although not as strong as 10 years ago.

I know there’s ps going on but it’s not much. I’d say only the vocalists most of the times. If you’ve seen how VK does their makeup you’d be surprised they didn’t lather it like lotion.

you're REALLY overestimating how much money are in vkei right now, most of the musicians have part time jobs just to eat, mitsu is widespread and bands disband all the time simply because they make very little money out of their work and it doesn't offset the costs of th pv, costumes, make up on top of living expense for the label or the members and you think they have the kind of money for PS?

Maybe Royz because they are around for ten years, maybe, the others no

You're overestimate the cost of PS. Members of nugu K-pop groups of unheard of agencies went under knives too. And, like Blank Stare said, usually, it's just the vocalist, not the whole band. PS also is much cheaper in China or Thailand.

They wouldn’t risk it by going to China or Thailand. Makeup does well in concealing when it’s caked on like drag queen do. Plus heavy lighting in their studios.

I doubt it. Some of them had "dolly eyes" and very thick eyelid fold, so thick that eyelid tape shouldn't do. Some had unnatural looking noses. Some had lips that looked like ones from cosmetic surgery clinic ads.

Look these are how VK makeup looks. They’re fully caked on unlike Kpop makeup with the studio lights on high. They incorporate lots of drag techniques because they can while Kpop and Japanese idols use natural makeup. They don’t need to use tape to make their face longer. They use double eyelid tape or glue too.

Search for Style Council in youtube. You get lots of VK band members doing their makeup. Most of them look natural or different from their usual face without makeup.

VK like souffleg said, don’t make that much money. Maybe like X Japan or the old VK/rock band members or rock gods like Gackt got PS but ordinary band members would rather put it to their bank rent and food. They do their own makeup.
