Sushi roll(Japanese) vs Gimbap(Korean)

Both. They’re both sushi anyways

no they're not. Sushi has different forms but gimbap is just rolled. Also the word sushi refers to the vinegared rice (it does not mean raw fish like a lot of people misbelieve--that's sashimi). Gimbap doesn't use vinegared rice. Raw fish isn't used in gimbap like it is in sushi, either.

edit: why did I get negged when what I'm saying are facts? Gimbap is NOT sushi, and sushi is not just rolled.

I’ve seen some Koreans put vinegar. Honestly they’re both the same thing. They taste delicious so I really don’t care.

no they are not. Again, there are different preparation methods of sushi whereas kimbap is just rice and cooked ingredients rolled in seaweed. Just because kimbap looks like makizushi does not make it sushi. Also kimbap uses sesame oil not vinegar.

Think of kimbap and sushi as siblings more than twins: similar in appearance yet unique in personality. For one, the white rice in both rolls are treated differently. The rice in sushi is vinegared. The term "sushi" refers to this sour flavor, not the fish. If sushi's rice does not contain vinegar, it is not sushi it seems? The white rice in kimbap is traditionally seasoned with sesame oil. Health-conscious Koreans use brown rice, forbidden rice and quinoa instead.

Both types of rolls use dried seaweed sheets. While sushi's seaweed is kept plain, kimbap's seaweed can also remain plain or be brushed on with sesame oil.
