Why does Kpop need validation from the West?

To broaden out the market?

More globalization?

More popularity?

The more the merrier?

#1 market in the world?

Cuz now we actually has more kpop groups fanmeet happen often compare to years ago cuz there is enough fan base exist for that (refer to #1). Still small fanbase but that is normal step every time Kpop trying new market from Japan to China to SEA and now U.S/Europe/SouthAmeria. If 1st generation like Boa/Tvxq didn't going through all that hardship, kpop Japanese fanbase won't be where they are right now and Kpop won't be benefit. It gonna be the same in U.S and Western countries.

Smart company and industry will always try to expand to more markets. Why it has to stop? Esp Kpop currently in the upperhill of momentum.

It was never about 'validation' and still isn't but that story was a little too popular for a lot of people's good. It's not looking pretty nowadays.

It's called expansion at least at a smaller scale. It's called more recognition in an inclusive market closer to a lot of fans who want to feel like they're supporting their faves.

If that’s all there is to it, then why bother using English in some songs or have to get English speaker? Why not stick to the mother tongue and still do fanservixe for fans? Why does the government need to push Kpop? Why does it need all the western females (and boys) in MVs?

because ... money? 8/10 of the largest music markets in the world are Western. The USA specifically is the largest music market in the world. It's the same reason why groups always rush over to Japan to make a quick buck (Japan being the 2nd largest music market in the world.)

In regards to the bold, that's not seeking validation. That's a ploy for soft power: cultural exportation normalises your country's presence worldwide. The West reigns in terms of cultural exportation- Hollywood and their music industry is one of their sources of power. Kpop pushed by the government is a push for a greater Korean presence in the world. That's Hallyu and it was the same for the push in Japan and China.

As for English speaking members, well same reason they cast Japanese and Chinese trainees and debut them.

Why they use English in their music is a trickier question because that's been going on for awhile since 1st-2nd gen. Presumably its also to facilitate Hallyu but I'm not sure.

the same reason westerners get chinese script tattoos and superdry is so popular. foreign languages sell. in asia, english sells. that's why the english in kpop songs is often grammatically incorrect or doesn't even make sense to begin with. they just think it sounds good. think about it: if you get a tattoo of the japanese word for harmony, you're not getting it to make your japanese neighbor like you, right? you just get it because you think it looks good

  • English is a global language
  • S.Korea heavily relies on its' entertainment industry due to the country's social and cultural establishment
  • At the same time their idol industry is heavy reliant on foreign investments and profits. People in it are easily replaceable and the influence is fleeting (this goes for almost everything in the country; a fashion trend there is to last a year max as opposed to in the west where it changes at a pace half a decade)
  • A venue in Japan brings triple the money compared to in Korea. In Japan, an idol makes double the money for only 2 days where in Korea it takes them a month
  • USA carries the biggest music market
  • More exposition, more money
  • Money?
  • Money
  • Global market
  • Hallyu wave
  • Money
  • Profit
  • Idk why I took my time explaining when it's pretty fuckin obvious
