ArticleTruck drives back over car accident... the unfortunate death of a 'delivery man'

Source: Kukmin Ilbo via Nate

CCTV caught footage of the moment of a car accident between a truck driver and a young man on his way to deliver ddukbokgi. The horrific footage caught not only the collision but the truck driver opening his car to check if the delivery man was dead and deliberately driving back over him to ensure that he was.

1. [+3,313, -16] Atrocious... give him the death penalty

2. [+3,118, -16] What? Did he really check to make sure he was dead? What a crazy man, he deserves a thousand years of consequences

3. [+2,922, -16] That truck driver is going to receive a thousand years of pain for that. Please give him the death penalty, my heart hurts for the young delivery man.

4. [+341, -1] It's old news that truck drivers are known to purposely kill their victims when they get in car accidents. It costs them more money in hospital expenses if the victim stays alive for all the treatments for the rest of their life... I'm so glad there was a CCTV that caught all this. This is 100% murder.

5. [+302, -4] There's an old saying among truck drivers that if you hit someone, it's better you make sure that they're dead otherwise you're stuck footing their bills for the rest of their lives. Compensating a death is often cheaper... Too bad times have changed and we have CCTV now and he's going to be charged with murder for this...

6. [+229, -0] Wow, I've only ever heard of rumors of truck drivers doing this, I didn't think I'd actually see it...

7. [+217, -0] Truck drivers often say that they'd rather spend a few months in jail after making sure a victim's dead than end up with hospital bills for the rest of their lives

8. [+182, -0] Wow... never thought I'd ever see a ba$tard actually go through with the old truck driver saying... He totally had every intention to kill the delivery man. What a crazy man.

9. [+148, -2] So, so unfortunate. He should've gotten out of the truck to check on the victim but instead he backs out onto him? He totally did it intentionally right?

10. [+80, -0] I'm sure the delivery guy didn't die right away from the collision but the truck driver drove back over him to make sure he did;;;;; let's please install more CCTVs all over the country..........

I had a car accident with a truck driver that purposely didn't stop and tore my side part of the car apart. I couldn't have evidences that it was his fault and I know he did in purpose so I had to pay the accident, they are monsters.

Is that truck drivers making sure their victims are dead a Korea only thing or ???

May that delivery man rest in peace

It's not. In many countries, if you hit someone with your car, then you have to pay for all of his treatments and meds. But if the victim dies, then you often get away with it, if you plead that it was an accident.

It's horrible and disgusting that money is more important than a human life. I hope the truck driver gets the punishment he deserves.

“If I hit someone, I’ll hit him again and make sure he’s dead.†[...] in Taiwan, if you cripple a man, you pay for the injured person’s care for a lifetime. But if you kill the person, you “only have to pay once, like a burial fee.†He insisted he was serious—and that this was common.
These drivers are willing to kill not only because it is cheaper, but also because they expect to escape murder charges. In the days before video cameras became widespread, it was rare to have evidence that a driver hit the victim twice. Even in today’s age of cellphone cameras, drivers seem confident that they can either bribe local officials or hire a lawyer to evade murder charges.
