tvN Drama "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?" Park Seo-Joon & Park Min-young. *The End*

“What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim†has only aired four episodes, but it has already quickly become one of my favorite K-dramas at the moment. I think a lot of the reason for its success has to do with the two main leads — Park Min Young and Park Seo Joon. Their acting and chemistry are really carrying the story! Here’s a look at 9 of those heart-fluttering moments from episodes three and four that really had us super excited.

Me.

1) The almost kiss

Although Lee Young Joon (Park Seo Joon) had the entire date and kiss planned well in advance, I still couldn’t help but get over their chemistry during this “almost kiss.†I also couldn’t help but chuckle when she stuck the huge stuffed cow in his face. They’re just too adorable!

2. The appearance of Young Joon’s hyung

Finally. The moment we’ve been waiting for. The appearance of the dashing Lee Tae Hwan, who plays Young Joon’s older brother, Sung Yeon.

Ummm, YAAAAAS.

We know that there’s going to be an intense love triangle and all I’ve been thinking is, ‘that lucky girl Park Min Young.’ Although, the guys are pretty lucky themselves, as she’s quite the beauty!

3. The many times Young Joon couldn’t stop staring at Mi So

He’s got it bad.

5. The jealousy

We love how Young Joon tries to act cool and collected; he thinks he’s got Mi So in the palm of his hand. This makes it all the more adorable when he reacts so crazy with his jealousy.

Chansung also made his first appearance in this series as the popular employee, Go Gwi Nam. Although we’re not really sure what his specific role is going to be yet, we’re pretty happy that he’s going to be around. There’s just so much eye-candy!

6. That hand grab!!!

The way Young Joon grabs Mi So’s hand is full of so much affection. This seemed like the first time he was genuine with his intentions wherein it wasn’t planned. Totally here for it.

7. That look of relief on Young Joon’s face

After he gets into a big fight with his brother, Young Joon goes straight to Mi So’s house. It’s adorable seeing how comforted he feels just by seeing her. That look!

8. When he holds her closer

Were you squealing? ‘Cause I totally was.

9. And says that heart-stopping line

How can we even wait until next week?!... imstupid.png

Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching??

So, what are we all watching this week?

What kept you reaching for more (or agonizing when there was no more), and what made you want to throw your remote through the screen? Time to weigh in… chartmander.png

  • What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim: I loved how off-kilter the introduction to this oddball pairing was, with us all wondering what was up with Secretary Kim and having her reactions so opaque and coated in cheerful professionalism. This looks like it’s going to be an adorable pairing, and I’m just glad to have a romance to root for again. I feel like this drama is completely dependent upon these two actors, but as long as they keep being awkward and hilarious, I’m happy.

  • What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim: These two characters are both so smart and so dumb in similar ways, which makes their relationship feel very evenly matched. I just like the simple conflict of the heroine wanting to reclaim her identity as Kim Mi-so and not Secretary Kim, and the totally obvious (to everyone but them) affection they have for one another. As a bonus, they’re both incredibly petty and childish, which makes for my favorite kind of jealous rom-com hijinks.

  • What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim: This show got me hooked with its cheeky humor and promising chemistry. I’m a little wary of Young-joon’s character because the last time Park Seo-joon played a rich asshole with a mysterious past that was intended to evoke sympathy, he was just an asshole deserving of none of my sympathy. But I’m into this Park Seo-joon and Park Min-young pairing, and I hope that their combined rom-com prowess will make for an entertaining watch.

  • What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim: It’s obvious that Young-joon has his personality challenges, but this week I realized that Mi-so has her own issues that make a romantic connection with her boss a tall order. She is a very literal person who takes everything that Young-joon says as a personal challenge and misses his clumsy attempts at humor. The company competition highlighted the disconnect perfectly and both boss and secretary, even after so many years together, have lots to learn about each other. The competition was hilarious and watching Mi-so tackle the obstacle course (that bouncing horse!) explains so much about her.

It's interesting they moved to confession so fast. I guess it was that way in the book. I love the funny humor and pettiness both have so I hope that stays.

well they've been knowing each other like almost 10 yrs?, unless if they just meet lol that would be weird af jCQ9zCm.png

  • What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim: Episode 4

SecretaryKim04-00300.jpg

Young-joon is still determined to convince Mi-so to marry him so that she doesn’t have to quit her job as his secretary. It’s hilariously convoluted logic, and I love how Mi-so finds it absurd, but somehow endearing at the same time. Unfortunately, a big event at work and a personal threat from the past show up at the same time, making Young-joon preoccupied and short-tempered.

EPISODE 4 RECAP

Angry about the three-legged race, Young-joon criticizes Mi-so for being okay with skinship with a strange man. She snaps that it’s better than being a loser, so he scoots closer and closer, challenging her not to be affected. Finally he pulls her arm as he topples backwards onto the couch, and Mi-so lands on top of him.

They freeze, staring at each other for a long, long time. The ice pack falls off the table, and the sound breaks the spell. Mi-so jumps up to get another ice pack, leaving Young-joon lying there, blinking in confusion. When Mi-so goes back to the living room, she finds Young-joon fast asleep, and she sits to watch him for a minute.

He starts having a nightmare, the same one involving the woman in red high heels. This time there’s a young boy in the house with her, and Young-joon hears her voice croon, “Kid, can you help me?†She reaches out with claw-like hands, and the little boy screams.

Young-joon jerks awake and Mi-so helps him sit up. She brings him some calming tea and asks if he’s okay, and he says, “Yes, thanks to you.†In a tiny, vulnerable voice, he says he doesn’t want to be alone, and he asks Mi-so to sleep at his house tonight.

She takes his request entirely the wrong way, making both of them feel awkward. Young-joon says that he meant she could sleep in the guest room, only because it’s late, of course. Mi-so is both relieved and embarrassed, and Young-joon seems to enjoy her flustered reaction when he asks what she thought he meant.

SecretaryKim04-00056.jpg SecretaryKim04-00057.jpg

A call comes in that wipes the smile off his face, and he tells Mi-so that she can’t sleep over after all. She assures him that she had no intention whatsoever of sleeping over, and literally runs out of the house. On her way home, she wonders who that call was from and why Young-joon looked upset.

A man crashes into Mi-so, dropping his phone — it’s Sung-yeon, Young-joon’s brother, though she doesn’t know him. He tells her to be more careful, but not because of his phone, and he stoops to tie her undone shoelace. He goes on his way, and Mi-so mutters that he was awfully sweet, unlike someone she knows. She doesn’t notice Sung-yeon watching her knowingly.

He goes to Young-joon’s home, not that Young-joon is one bit happy to see him. Sung-yeon says he didn’t want to stay at their parents’ home alone, so he thought he’d pay his brother a visit. He adds he’s still having difficulty because he keeps remembering “that incident,†but that hating Young-joon only makes him feel worse, so he thinks it’s time to forgive him. Unmoved, Young-joon tells Sung-yeon to leave.

COMMENTS

Okay Young-joon, you said it, you can’t take it back now! I’m sure he’ll try, but Mi-so heard him loud and clear, and it’s going to be a lot harder for Young-joon to come up with far-fetched justifications for his actions from now on. I’m actually hoping for the opposite — that he embraces (heh) his new feelings and runs with it, and just storms Mi-so’s emotional castle with his awkward, ridiculous, endearing feelings.

You know, as nice as the big grand gestures like fireworks shows and fancy dinners are, I think I prefer Young-joon when he’s doing small, thoughtful things for Mi-so. Holding the light so she could read was just pure swoon, because it shows that he’s watching her closely, and that he wants to make things easier for her. He even reads the book she likes because he wants to understand her better, and it’s pretty telling that, when he was in physical and emotional pain, he went straight to Mi-so for comfort.

So I hope Young-joon was paying attention when she read the book passage about wanting to be with someone who takes away her weariness, because up until now, he’s unfortunately been the source of it. I think that was a huge clue as to what Young-joon needs to do if he truly wants to win Mi-so’s heart — become a man who makes her life easier, not harder.

SecretaryKim04-00185.jpg

I’m so fascinated by the relationship between Young-joon and Sung-yeon, and why they’re so antagonistic. Sung-yeon’s current friendly attitude doesn’t fool me — this is the same guy who midnight-texts Young-joon that he’s living in hell. He bullied Young-joon as a child, and he definitely seems to have been involved in the event that traumatized Young-joon when they were young. It’s interesting that someone that toxic grew up to be a romance author, of all things. But I’m mostly curious about the event they keep alluding to, and what exactly happened. Sung-yeon seems to blame Young-joon for something that happened to him, but all the evidence (the scars, the nightmares, the cable tie phobia) points to Young-joon as being the child who was kidnapped. So what is it that Sung-yeon thinks Young-joon did to him?

I worry that Young-joon’s mom told Sung-yeon about Young-joon’s trusting relationship with Mi-so. If he’s really hiding a sinister side, she just handed him the ammunition of how to get right to Young-joon. Now I’m scared that Sung-yeon will do something to Mi-so, or even just try to date her to hurt Young-joon. Hopefully Mi-so is too smart to let that happen, and she doesn’t seem interested in him anyway, since she gave Sung-yeon a fake number and seemed annoyed by him. But if Sung-yeon develops a real interest in Mi-so, he could start to see her as another thing that Young-joon has that he should have as the eldest, and do something regrettable. For some reason, I just feel like Sung-yeon is capable of hurting someone else in order to get revenge on Young-joon for whatever he thinks happened when they were children, and it really concerns me that Mi-so is on his radar.

Even though it was the humor in What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim that drew me in at first, somehow the darker turn that the plot has taken doesn’t bother me like it would have if you’d told me about it a week ago. The childhood trauma subplot is interesting enough to me that I’m just fascinated in a different way, and I love the way Young-joon and Mi-so’s relationship is evolving and growing. The humor is still there, and Young-joon is as endearing as ever with his arrogant confidence that he’s the best thing that ever happened to Mi-so, and all he has to do is make her realize it. The problem is, he’s got it the wrong way around… she’s the best thing that ever happened to him. All Mi-so has to do is hold out until he figures it out, and she’ll have him hooked good.

Naver - heraldpop: 'What's Wrong With Secretary Kim' Park Min Young looking for 'the oppa' in her memory

1.[+2585, -32] The vice chairman is definitely the oppa that Mi So's looking for. In first episode, Young Joon said "There are two people who should never call me inconsiderate, one is my older brother and the other is Kim Mi So." In fact, Young Jun remembers Mi So from childhood

6.[+236, -23] I'm having fun watching it but when Lee Tae Hwan comes out I just hate it

7.[+181, -18] Lee Tae Hwan seems to be a miscast, in reality Park Seo Joon is a lot older than him that's why he doesn't look like an older brother

8.[+154, -12] Take out Morophus. It's disturbing ã…‹ã…‹

9.[+151, -24] If only the older brother was a little better at acting...what a pity

10.[+108, -9] If it wasn't for Park Seo Joon and Park Min Young, how would it have been ã… ã…  The leads casting is god's move!
