Malamolly 269
I was wondering something and I'd like to have your opinion or share your experience. I used to be active on OH. But now, I realize that I'm merely a lurker because... I afraid of reactions ! Wathever the fandom, I think people are more and more sensitive and not open-minded about different opinions. To say it differently, before posting, I censor myself a lot (and most of the time, I finally don't post at all because I'm too afraid my comments would be misunderstood !). Even if I like a band very very much, I still don't especially like everything they do. I wish I could say openly that I disliked their new MV or that I think some of them has done plastic surgery without risking a massive bashing. I wish I could talk about ships with people who don't really believe the boys (or girls) are dating ! I wish I could say that sometimes their performance was not extraordinary. Etc. In other words, I wish I could have a normal conversation with other fans and share opinions (as long as everyone is respectful and courteous). I have the impression it's less and less possible to be honest because fandoms are very powerful. So powerful it's like you have to follow the main stream and are not allowed to speak differently. Do you have the same feeling ? Do you really speak openly on fandom threads ? I'm also wondering if it's question of age and generation (I'm older than most of the users here, I guess) ? Let me hear what you think. I'm still frustrated not to have a forum and thread where I can speak freely. I'm wondering if it's a vain dream of mine or if it's still possible to find some other fans like me !!?
Coming Century 476
Yes, it's not that hard. Although some stans take it *way* too personally when you don't like something by their faves.

bellendciaga 7,198
yes those "fans" who get offended at any sort of constructive criticism and/or negative opinions are probably children
dmlve 1,185
Naturally we are fans but at times there are moments when we can stray away from the narrative and be objective!~ And that's normal

Isaki 50
Omg. I am just like you! I hate that I can't openly express my opinions about my faves without being called a hater / anti etc. by those immature fans. Um hello? Just because I criticise them does not mean I dislike them. Your bias aren't perfect you know. Sadly, there are a lot of them out there.

azran 574
I'm far more interested in engaging with fellow fans who will criticize our faves when it's warranted. Blind 'OPPA/UNNIE CAN DO NO WRONG!!!11' adoration is boring. I like discussing my favourite groups, both the good and bad. I understand how some fans can get defensive when their faves get negative comments, but there's a difference between 'LOL THIS SUCKS WHAT FLOPS' and 'I'm disappointed by this comeback in comparison to their last one, they've done this concept too many times', for example. girlcalledH 488
I think it's important to be able to see things objectively as a fan. You don't have to like everything your faves do, and you are allowed to say your opinions out loud, no matter what the popular opinion of the matter is~

juniordud 3,004
Yes I tend to say what I like and what I don't like from the people I'm a fan of. A lot of people here have tried to tell me I was not a real fan or faking being a fan since I don't defend them or not agree with all the time or have some songs that I don't like. Soogi 1,222
sure. if i disagree with something i'll state my opinion respectfully bc im not one for shittalking and discuss the matter. people who get triggered by differing opinions and think their biases are perfect need a reality check. besides who cares if they think you're not a real fan? you don't need their validation

justtree 2,740
I think if you like something, it is more difficult for you to be objective unless you purposefully seek people with neutral or even opposite position. Essentially I think you need to personally gauge why majority of the fans like that idols. Some are there to enjoy the atmosphere so you better not tramp on their party. There are also others who are there to see the development of the idol/group in which case you can speak your differing opinions easily (though you must accept being ignored sometimes esp. if you don't really have musical credentials like me ã…‹ã…‹ã…‹). I guess I am lucky that I am in NU'EST fandom with mostly mature fans who can accept differing opinions and positions.

· Moonrise · 956
Of course. Some people give you a hard time if you actually state any objective comments that happen to be negative, though
MusicFlowsInU 50
I once "objectively" (hardcore fan will never accept this term) valued Twice album on Reddit. Went through B-side songs, wrote down what I liked and disliked. I was pretty much told to shut the f*ck up. Apparently if I dislike something, I must keep it to myself and only mention good parts. In another situation I have listened J-hope mixtape. I just couldn't understand the hype. It was definitely bellow average what we get from kpop. After that I got a chance to see how a river of negative karma looks like Basically you have to comment 'this is the best album ever' and spew rainbows of happiness from your ass if you want people to agree with you.Winner and Twice comebacks are coming. I wouldn't dare to judge these albums, or would I?
TAE ZONE 10,428
it's possible to be an objective fan. but I don't think it's something most want. criticisms may be valid but let's be real, most don't want to see criticism. which is fine, they're here for a good time. I speak openly to a certain extent. *shrugs* sometimes it's not worth sharing your opinion lol

I know what kind of fan I am and I don't need any "validation" I wish I could be that strong and confident to talk, anyway !!! ^^ But I fear fanwars (I was a Kris' stan during the... Krisis !!). And I'm not here to fight. And in the same time, I'm so frustrated to shut myself up.... And don't know how to post anymore !! In OH? Keep dreaming of that paradise. These fans will bite your head off and bury your body to the deepest part of the sea In OH and every else... That's why I'm so fed up. I can't find a place to express myself ! Because I share this opinion but I didn't express it because there's nowhere you can say that without being bashed instantly... I understand, thanks to all your answers, that I should try to express myself more openly. But I'm still wondering if there's a way to create a place where open-minded fans can express themselves openely and without fear ?
MusicFlowsInU 50
But I'm still wondering if there's a way to create a place where open-minded fans can express themselves openely and without fear ? Not on the internet :D Sites with karma/ratings and report buttons always favor the masses. Non-common opinions get obliterated into oblivion. On the other hand, sites without any of these features turn into one big corrupt mess and die out fast since 'open-minded' opinions are often attempts troll and just to piss off people. The best way to express your criticism is to hide it in subtle way under praises

I know exactly what you two mean about that mixtape. But there is no way I'd post my review of it. That would simply be asking for punishment. There are other fandoms that are more tolerant of dissenting/minority opinions.
