What are fun things to do in Shanghai?

I'll be visiting there during winter/Christmas and New Year's Eve

I figured this would be the right forum to ask imstupid.png

Normally I watch vlogs to find out less ~basic things (aka Paris: Champs Elysées, Eiffel Tower, Sacre Coeur etc) about a city but almost every vlog I find is in Chinese 0u0plz.png

So hit me with your best shot!! This'll be my first time though so some of the basic things are still fine. I just find that a lot of the things big cities are famour for end up being rather disappointing.

Chinese food recs are welcome too.

Go to Nanjing East Road at night from People's Square, then you can walk all the way up to the Bund if you don't mind walking

I would go to Yu Gardens in the late afternoon - night as well, because it's also prettier during that time. Don't eat anything there though, it's not very good, a tourist trap.

In the daytime you can go to Pearl Tower, Shanghai Tower, etc. on the Pudong side of the river. Or Disneyland, Shanghai has the biggest castle of all the Disneys, but expect it to be packed.

I personally like to walk around in the former French Concession, but that's not exactly a tourist attraction. Xintiandi and Tianzifang are also big tourist destinations, look them up.

As for food, there's tons a great food to eat. Brunch at Bull & Claw is amazing, they have the best pancakes I've ever had and I would recommend Lost Heaven to a night out. For other Shanghainese selections, it's hard, there's too many, maybe Old Ye Shanghai Station.

Here are two sites that are for Shanghai expats, but you can find a lot of information of where to eat, party, etc.

Wow this is so much great information, thanks a bunch!

Could I bother you just a bit more and ask you which neighbourhoods you'd recommend or recommend me to stay away from in terms of ho(s)tel/Airbnb?
