I loved this movie, did anyone saw it?

What I think in spoilers!, don't read the spoilers if you didn't see the movie ohla.png

It wasn't trying to destroy, it was it's nature, he was experimenting, learning and communicating at the same time; many ppl draw a paralell to cancer but to me cancer represents life itself trying to survive, what form of life can be called evil for the simple matter of wanting to exist?, to me he wasn't evil, but only humans demonstrated ill will and how dangerous we can be, at least that's how I see it

i saw this yesterday! ohbi.png

yesss i agree. the aliens wanted to learn and explore. they imitated humans, not to destroy but to understand.

looking deeper, if anything, i think the movie is a parallel or analogy of depression and self-destruction?

Beneath the plot and its strange events, there’s the symbolic, metaphorical meaning of the Shimmer and the characters’ journey towards it. Strip away the layers of trippy sci-fi, and we’d argue that Annihilation is a poetic metaphor for the darker impulses that drive us as human beings. In one way or another, its characters are all touched in some way by evidence of guilt, depression or self-loathing; Lana herself, although she may consciously think she’s trying to save the world, or maybe at least find out a truth that can save her desperately ill husband, but the drive that underlies it all is at least partly self-destructive.

Nope. I really want to watch it though. It looks interesting~

Someone told me that it was rubbish (but they have shite taste in films, so I won’t listen to them).

Not so sure about self destruction, I tend to see the whole movie as an "learning experience", to search for a deeper meaning, I don't think anyone who entered wanted to die but to know; I do think it shows the destructive ( but not self destructive, to me ) nature of humans in order to preservate themselves, and as a methaphor we can be even considered as the cancer of earth, some of the creations of the echoes were better for the planet ( you may say ) but not so great for us the humans; I do think it was a coincidence the landing, and to no point he wanted to harm anyone; but that's the beauty of movies like this, everyone has a different interpretation; to me is a new classic of Psy Fi

hmm i could see the angle of learning experience for everyone; main characters and aliens. i guess i see the main characters as self-destructing themselves because they didn't have much to live for (the psychologist had cancer, one's husband died on the mission, etc). but i guess you could say, instead of self-destruction, that in the process of learning or exploring, there can be negative side effects

i find the film title to be interesting too. 'annihilation' gives off the idea that the film will be about Something came to Destroy (specifically Something will Destroy humans). but your point about "humans as the cancer of earth"... annihilation could very much refer to humans, rather than the aliens. as in, humans Destroy the earth, themselves, etc. deepstareplz.png

yeah it's more fun when movies have different interpretations or at least people can discuss in great detail about the plot. off topic, like the movie mother! isn't popular but i loved reading people's reactions to it za5g21G.png
