North Korea Detains An American On A Tourist Visa

He wanted to stay in North Korea?

North Korea have detained an American tourist named Matthew Todd because he demanded asylum after arriving in North Korea on a tourist visa.

“A relevant organ of the DPRK put in custody American Miller Matthew Todd, 24, on April 10 for his rash behavior in the course of going through formalities for entry into the DPRK to tour itâ€

He has a tourist visa for visiting the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), but he tore it up while shouting that he chooses DPRK as his shelter.

The U.S. State Department kept in contact with the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang to deal with this case, since the U.S. and North Korea didn’t have any diplomatic relations. The reason for his action is unknown as the U.S. State Department didn’t release any additional information.

This is not the first time someone has been detained in North Korea. A Korean American missionary named Kenneth Bae, was also detained by North Korea for more than a year, and still is. He was arrested in 2012, when he led a tour group to conduct religious services in North Korea. He was then sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. Although the U.S. and Swedish diplomats have tried to talk to North Korean authorities to grant Bae his freedom, they did not budge.

John Short, a 75 year old Australian missionary was arrested last February for distributing bible tracts at a Buddhist temple on former leader Kim Jong Il’s birthday. He was released last month after North Korean authorities considered his age and his hand written apology letter.

*shrug* sounds like a crazy person one way or another.

Either North Korea is lying and he didn't behave in that manner.... but he still chose to travel alone (and/or as a non-celeb/politician/athlete), to a currently increasingly volatile country with negative western sentiment....thus is an idiot.

or

North Korea is telling the truth...and the US can rest easy knowing that a likely mass shooting candidate is no longer their issue...
