as an akb48 fan, im a believer in the nct system. and think what sm is trying to do is smart. if done correctly the group could last 20 years etc.

but the execution could of been better.

i know nct has a system but it isnt as clear cut as members get added to multiple units and add/switch members between the units without a clear set of rules.

here is how i think the nct unit should of been set up loosely using the AKB48 system.

new nct members not in a unit should of been introduced as a nct dream member and promote singles  with nct dream. most new nct members should be youngish so nct keeps its youthful cute vibe musically.

this way fans and non fans know nct dream is the best place to get to know new members.

then after a period of time certain nct dream members would be "promoted" to either NCT127, nct china, how ever many different  NCT country units sm wants to make.

Your either a nct dream member or nct 127/city member not both. a member can only be apart of one standard unit.

then NCT U, would act as a NCT ALL stars team- the most popular members of all the different units come together,

the members of NCT U wouldn't be permanent as it  would be  on rotation each comeback due to popularity or management push.

.

edit: as extra maybe/optioal:

once a year the fans would get to vote which members would appear for a nct U single in a yearly election. - which is a good way to rally up fans and i super entertaining.

then general public would find nct u easier to get into as a introduction.

just a random thought and i had alot of spare time.

I like your idea but I wouldn't want the voting system in Nct. The non popular members would be under so much stress and the members will probably start seeing each other as rivals instead of group mates. It could hurt relationships in the group and possible discord

fair point, i was using the akb48 model, but if you let management pick insead you get the idea i was going for.

but the whole jppop system and what SM is very clearly trying to do is proote people being a more individual fan then a group fan. so its easier to support when members come and go. which is a harsh system but the idea in japan is when you leave the group in the end you should be trying to make it as a solo

I agree with your idea. Tbh there are lots of ways I can see NCT concept being done effectively, and yet, there SM is on their THIRD try trying to get the system to work at full potential.

As NCT is now, the units are near indistinct from one another. At this point I'm wondering why even have separate units to begin with if you are going to make them all the same anyway?

Edit: I guess I am the only one who agrees with the yearly election idea. Tbh I don't see anything wrong with it. Rather than a yearly election I look ast it more as end of year gift to fans. Fans can come together and vote for their favorite member to be in NCT U single. Since it would only be once a year and not something frequent, I don't think it would affect the members or fans group mentality more than the current system already does. I mean, I thought it was mostly acknowledged that NCT's system is practically a breeding ground for Akgaes and individual fans? Yearly election or not, I think solo Stans being plentiful in NCT is going to be a definite thing like it already is.

Edit 2: Separatley from that, I can see how the All star Avenger unit thing in general may not be a good idea. That unit could potentially usurp all other units in popularity and some might want them to stay a fixed unit. So instead of having a constant All star unit all year round, a single end of year vote for members to be in an All star unit's single comeback might be better answer.

Elections arent ideal when they all have 7 year contracts unlike 48G where they can leave whenever they want. Less popular members will have to endure the harsh reality 7 times which they cant even quit.

I agree that they shouldnt overlap members in permanent units. The purpose of NCT is that the group is supposed promote simultaneously through different units so they can make as much money as possible. Say 127 got shipped to Japan, during that time there should be another unit(s) promoting promoting/touring domestically or elsewhere. But as of now, the unit members are overlapping therefore they will have to wait just like any normal group. The soon to debut NCT China cant be promoting when 127 is promoting since Winwin is stuck with one unit. The same goes for Mark and Haechan with Dream and 127 (although they are leaving Dream soon), and will be for Yuta as well when the Japanese unit debut.

Another solution is to make different sets of units without overlapping members. For example, make another unit out of the other 9 members not in 127 so they can promote at the same time (they dont even have to use all 9 members). Then make another unit with the Chinese members so when they get shipped to China, there will be other unit(s) doing activities elsewhere.

NCT U as of now is already good since it is doing what they are supposed to be, a rotational unit.

they added new members during nct u comback? or was that nct 127.

their system isnt very clear with the new members. multiple member sbeing in mutible units.

nct u would feel more special if it was the only time diffrent members from diffrent units came together

That's true but the only problem I think is that many international kpop fans would rather support the whole group versus only individual members. It would be hard for the to adjust to the change since kpop always seems to promote friendship and having good bonds with members all the time. A lot of kpop fandoms don't like akgae fans so changing the whole fandom into akgaes would be quite a hard change to happen.

Also, aren't the nct members allowed to leave whenever they want? I swear I read something like that when nct debuted

its not been seen in kpop before, afterschool model was a tame version.

but alot of international jpop fans are use to it and accept it.

i found it weird when i got into akb48.

the akb48 thread is one of the most active in the jpop section and has a pretty big international fandom compared to other jpop acts.

so its not impossible. but its going to take time for fans/potential fans to get used to

fair point. it could till work with mamngment instead picking the most popular members themselves

I kinda like this idea, it definitely seems more organized than whatever system is in place rn.

The yearly election thing doesn't bother me too much. Any combination of the boys will have the talent to produce quality music. I'd just feel bad for the less popular members, but with this system it seems like everyone would have a unit, so I guess it's not that bad.

I just find it hard to imagine sm carrying this out properly. Some units would definitely go long periods of time without comebacks. But in a perfect world, where sm is fair, this idea could totally work.

Its still the same 7 year contract, I believe. So no they cant leave SM which most of the time means you cant leave the group as well since you would have to get the agency to approve it which is very unlikely, unless something major happened like Sulli or Jessica.

I have been saying since d1, nct127 should have never been that large of a group. I dont know what sm was thinking adding so much members when they could have just jump started their nct china or sea line without messing up nct 127

Also i wanted nct u for new members and old members that are less popular to show off their own talents.

How could they have jumpstarted nct china while THAAD was happening? I do agree with nct127 being too large a group

Thats why i said sea unit.

Ten fans were practically dry humping the enter bar whenever sm tweeted anything on twitter

Qgy081m.gif

Ten had a knee injury and couldn’t have promoted let alone been the center of any subunit. I feel as if people forget that there have been setbacks that the company couldn’t possibly have predicted or prepared for in advance. Now that thaad is nearly over and all the members are healthy, we’ll see where SME goes with this
