[News] 'Switch' promises to gratify by featuring bad guy achieving justice

SEOUL, March 28 (Yonhap) -- More often than not, petty con artists are locked up in jail while big ones enjoy comfortable lives in penthouses. Sadly enough, many Koreans often realize that it is hard to catch outrageously bad crooks by way of the law.

The new TV series "Switch - Change the World" on SBS is designed to give TV viewers thrilling satisfaction that is hard to get in real life by establishing justice with the help of a bad guy who acts as the look-alike of a good one.

The forthcoming drama will show an interesting irony in how the crook Sa Do-chan, the spitting image of a prosecutor named Paik Jun-su who falls unconscious following a premeditated car accident, does a better job of holding bad guys accountable than the real prosecutor.

AEN20180328007300315_04_i.jpg&key=e091bf

"The irony of the world we live in is that a fake pretends to be a real one and lives a better life," director Nam Tae-jin said during a press conference at the SBS headquarters in Seoul on Wednesday.

By bringing the "paradoxical reality" onto the screen, Nam said, "I want to give viewers a thrilling and gratifying experience."

Actor and singer Jang Keun-suk is playing the double role of Sa and Paik in the Wednesday-Thursday drama, which will be his first TV series in two years since "The Royal Gambler" on the same network.

During the media event, the actor said the drama will likely be his last work before starting his mandatory military service. All able-bodied Korean men should serve in the military for about two years. Details of Jang's enrollment have yet to be determined.

That said, Jang has tried to show his best performance yet in the show.

"I feel a heavy responsibility for the series ... Doing the double role is a new challenge for me. I will show my best performance, so that people can naturally associate me with the two characters," he said.

AEN20180328007300315_03_i.jpg&key=e260d6

The actor enjoys huge popularity across Asia. In the lobby of the network, a few hundred fans -- Koreans and foreigners alike -- lined up to see the star. The lobby was lined with flower wreathes and presents from fans decorated with supporting messages.

He didn't forget to offer his fans special thanks for their unwavering support and love.

"I feel sorry for my fans because it's been a while since I did my last work. They waited to see me working in dramas and films. They are the ones who made me who I am now," he said.

While very excited about his new work, he said he felt "really challenged as my character accounts for a huge portion of the drama."

Jang was offered the role last fall. When he started to read the script, he said he couldn't put it down.

"I read through the fifth episode on the spot. I visualized the text in my head, and it made my palm sweat with tension. Every incident falls into place like making a puzzle. The biggest selling point is its huge movie-like scale."

The 32-episode series will premiere at 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Never seen mad dog,i might check it later.imhappyplz.png On the other side,I got some issue with switch and some of its scene like the blood coming out from pregnant woman and and the one with the death of an informant thru choking.I think that is too much for a drama with a timeslot around 22:00 and rated-15.

the drama was quite awesome tho, its kinda similar to this Switch drama which has con artist and such,

i strongly recommend you to watch this. hurrplz.png

‘Switch’ to show swindler serving justice to ‘corrupt’ society

Jang Geun-suk hopes to build the ‘character of his life’ before military
The new SBS series “Switch: Change the World†depicts a petty conman serving justice to the corrupt rich by faking the role of a prosecutor.

The aim of the program is to deal a cathartic blow to the world where true villains live in penthouses while petty criminals are put behind the bars.

The satisfaction will be thrilling, promised director Nam Tae-jin, at the press conference for the show held at SBS headquarters in Mok-dong, Seoul, Wednesday, where he was joined by the main stars Jang Geun-suk, Han Ye-ri and Jung Woong-in, as well as supporting stars Jo Hee-bong, Shin Do-hyun and Ahn Seung-hwan.

“The show delves in to the duplexity of people,†director Nam said. “We live in a reality that is to an extent unbelievable. What you see in ‘Switch’ is not the real world but a world that you would like to believe as reality.â€

restmb_jhidxmake.php?idx=5%26simg=201803

The story’s main protagonist is the swindler Sa Do-chan, who is a doppelganger look-alike of law-abiding prosecutor Baek Jun-su. When Baek falls unconscious following a premeditated car accident, Baek’s fellow prosecutor, played by Han Ye-ri, scouts Sa to step in as a double. Sa, a born natural crook and a genius, makes full use of his quick acumen in faking the role of Baek and ends up doing a better job of holding bad guys accountable than the real prosecutor.

Actor and singer Jang Geun-suk plays the double role of Sa and Baek. Han Ye-ri plays the female lead and Jung Woong-in the villainous art dealer who amasses a fortune through the black market drug trade.

“Switch†will be Jang’s last work before he commits the next two years to his national defense duty.

Jang shared his sentiments at the press conference, “I feel the responsibility (for this show) heavily, as this will most likely be my last work before entering the army service. I am giving every scene my full concentration and preparing myself for what comes next. I am in this drama hoping to make this character a work of my life.â€

Jang refrained from going in to the details of his military service, saying, “Today’s a day for ‘Switch.’ I believe discussing too much of my personal plans wouldn’t be appropriate.†

The 32-episode series will premiere at 10 p.m. on Wednesday and will air every Wednesday and Thursday.

[Review] "Switch - Change The World" Episodes 1-2'

Joon-soo (played by Jang Geun-suk) is a high profile prosecutor in the thick of a huge investigation. Joon-soo is so in the thick of the investigation that "Switch - Change The World" doesn't even bother to explain what exactly it is that he's been doing. So we're mostly on the same page as prosecutor Ha-ra (played by Han Ye-ri), who understands what Joon-soo was trying to do in broad strokes, but is in a bit of a fix when a mysterious car crash incapacitates Joon-soo indefinitely.

Meanwhile Do-chan (also played by Jang Geun-suk) is a professional con artist who looks indistinguishable from Joon-soo. The dual role trope is played a bit differently here than usual- Do-chan doesn't stumble into Joon-soo's case by accident, but rather, Ha-ra just uses the latest state of the art technology to find a suitable temporary body double for the next phase of Joon-soo's plan. And that's when things start to get messy.

713cd4e54c254e91f7f54252b299d031.jpg&key

That's also where the second episode leaves off, unfortunately. Although really, I'm actually kind of grateful that "Switch - Change The World" dispenses with the usual exposition to jump right into the plot. Do-chan is constantly trying to run an elaborate new con, and high intelligence notwtihstanding, it's never totally clear how much control Do-chan really has over any given situation. Sometimes it seems like he creates impossible problems solely so he can enjoy trying to solve them.

By making a conscious decision to drag Do-chan into an explicitly dangerous investigation, Ha-ra is herself attempting to con the con artist for her own ends. So on top of everything else the ethical situation is rather iffy. The two leads in "Switch - Change The World" are smart, but not as smart as they think they are. Even more alarmingly Do-chan and Ha-ra tend to create huge loud messes everywhere they go, so subtlety is not a strong point in an investigation where Tae-woong (played by Jung Woong-in) is trying to be the sneakiest, quietest villain possible.

So far the main weak point in "Switch - Change The World" is just a lack of motivation. Ha-ra and Do-chan show such questionable judgment in choosing to cooperate with each other that their various sidekicks openly dissent against the joint enterprise of con artists and prosecutors working together. The main selling point to "Switch - Change The World" is just in trying to guess in what precipitous direction the next turnabout will fall. Curiousity, more than emotional engagement, is the watchword here.

Jang Geun Suk Picks His Most Compatible Co-Star

Jang Geun Suk started his career as a child model and has since worked with many popular actresses. Some of his co-stars include YoonA, Park Shin Hye, IU, Moon Geun Young, and more.

During the press conference for the drama he was asked which actress he is most compatible with. The actor chose his “Switch†co-star Han Ye Ri and stated, “Out of all the actresses I worked with so far, I clicked with her the best.â€

40387964394_39830dcc4c_z.jpg&key=1225a11

Jang Geun Suk added, “Sa Do Chan is like a rubber ball, so if we’re not careful, he could seem like a character that you can’t take very seriously. It’s the actors’ job to make that into a reality, but when I’m filming with Han Ye Ri, I feel a sense of security. When I go a different path or improvise, she reacts right away. Ever since rehearsal, we have been a good team. She’s a reliable actress.â€

In response, Han Ye Ri said, “I, too, think it is always fun while filming. I felt like I was having the pleasure of creating something while working. I had good chemistry with Jang Geun Suk and the director.â€

“Switch†is about Sa Do Chan, a conman who ends up becoming a prosecutor who uses his unique set of skills to catch criminals. Han Ye Ri plays the independent and passionate prosecutor Oh Ha Ra. The first episode will air on March 28 at 10 p.m. KST. You can watch it on Viki!
