[Discusion] Anything CLAMP Related and its multiverse

blank_stare

Recommended Posts

Like as the title said, anything related.

Most CLAMP mangas are related or shares the same universe or is in a multiverse (Looking at Suki Dakara Suki, xxxHolic, Drug and Drop/Legal Drop, Tsubasa, Chobits, to name a few.)

Discussion commence.

My god I love Chobits. It was the first anime I'd ever discovered, and I never watched it --I just stared at the wikipedia page for it. Then one day (when I began to regularly watch anime) I remembered it! I watched it and fell in love with it. As I got to the last few episodes I put it off for a year because I didn't want to finish it. I finally did and it was amazing.

Um I also watched Kobato and cried when the teacher lady got sick I think. It was so great, I sobbed at the ending, and I just couldn't stop, it was so beautiful.

I loved Cardcaptor Sakura as a kid; it is my favorite CLAMP work (although I read many others), so I was excited for the new clear cards series, but I was I realized it was only nostalgia making me feel like that. I would have prefered that the characters aged at least a few years, because the flowery 10 year old shit is now way too much for me, lol.

This. I watched the first couple episodes and felt the same way- they also wasted a really great emotional story beat with having Syaoran come back immediately. I know there's an in-universe two year gap, but for the viewer, it just... happens. They really could've saved that for a few episodes in and given it some more impact, but they were trying too hard to get into the monster of the week formula that just doesn't work for older audiences, who are the ones primarily watching. There's a reason why Sailor Moon Crystal rushed through the story beats that were already in the original anime- they wanted to get to the meatier story, instead of dwelling too in the monster-of-the-week type story.

CCS was never my absolute favorite and I have some really bad memories attached to it because of some former friends I used to have, but I really was expecting and hoping for more from it. I adore magical girls, and I really liked Crystal('s third season, dear God that animation in the first two season was soooo bad), so I was hoping I'd like Clear Cards, but... it's not for me. :(

Sailor Moon...man, I'm so mad of how much they messed up with the animation. Never mind the anorexic designs, which to be fair, do resemble the manga more, as does the characterization, but the damn animation...nope. I work on animation and it's like rubbing a sore wound with salt to me.

I'll stick with the originals and watch them once every two years or so.

I loved tsubasa. the manga is way better than the anime. Tokyo revelations and shunraiki were great ovas though.

what I loved about tsubasa is that the characters all had so much depth and were fully fleshed out. The story is heartwrenching but it also knows how to make readers smile. Plus the mind screw nature of it grabbed all my attention.

Fai's back story will remain as one of the most tragic back stories of all time. And towards the end to see him smile for real made me happy. That guy deserves the world.

Also the ships were awesome. Sakusyao and kurofai ftw.

It was because of the above that I was inspired to base my upcoming first weekend ww on trc. I am taking reservations so if any of you want to have some fun, send me a pm. Or quote me on the forum games chat thread.

Btw why does clamp now a days never seem to finish their mangas. The last properly finished manga must have been trc world. The others are all in hiatus aren't they except for holic rei? It's frustrating because I want to know what happens. But they just never seem to get updated. Drug&drop, gate 7, ccs clear cards. All of them are stuck in never ending hiatus. And then we have x1999 and clover which are long past recovery.

huh? A lot of the CCS fans I see squealing over Clear Card on tumblr are in their late 20s aka those who watched CCS when it aired in the late 90s-00s. Plus if you've read both the original and Clear Card manga, Syaoran returned to Tomoeda on the exact day that Sakura started her first day of middle school, and Clear Card starts off with Sakura's first day in middle school. They can't "save it" for a few more episodes because in the manga they reunite on her first day of middle school.

Original manga:

Clear Card:

and the first 4 episodes of Clear Card followed the manga almost to an exact T.

??? Clear Card is still ongoing, what the heck do you mean by never ending hiatus? It's a monthly publication so it gets updated once every month on the 3rd. It's not a weekly or biweekly publication. We just had chapter 22 early this month and chapter 23 is coming out May 3rd.

It is? I haven't seen the chapter around. Where can I read it?

But drug and drop and gate 7 are still stuck in hiatus aren't they?

the problem is that a lot of manga sites stopped translating the chapters after ch. 13, probably because CCS Clear Card got licensed. The only place you can find English translated scans of chapters past ch. 13 now is the Clear Card FB group (which is closed to members only): https://www.facebook.com/groups/146810305901011/?ref=group_header Tumblr user Meimi-Haneoka also posts RAW scans on her tumblr, but if you want translations you'll have to go to CardcaptorCoconut's tumblr and they only post text translations. There's been a LOT revealed in chapters 19-22 so far.

and idk about the other two because CCS is the only CLAMP series I read/watch/follow.

Jeez, you necro'd this thread hard.

Anyway- I read the manga. I know what happens. That said:

"Because in the manga..." is a really bad excuse to use for unexciting storytelling and dropping tension immediately.

Following the source material exactly doesn't always make for great adaptation. (See: Fullmetal Alchemist live action.) Pacing in manga works much different than in an animated format. Having him return so immediately just felt like "well now all of the pieces are in place, so we can get back to our lazy monster-of-the-week format!"

I know maybe they could have started the timeline of clear manga in maybe summer break and then gradually bring it to the start of middle school. Maybe show her miss syaoran. Show her tackle work show how used she is used to her life with her cards and then show her start middle school meet syaoran but lose the cards.

I didn't necro the thread, Akidoki was the one who did. Please look at the time stamp of each post. The last post was by baiichi on 20 March 2018 - 03:08 PM  and the next post is by Akidoki on 21 April 2018 - 10:27 PM.

plus it's not "necro'ing" if there's only been a month between the last and recent postings, and this forum is so dead and slow-moving that this thread has probably been sitting on the first page for a while now.

I apologize for the mistake, but there was no need to neg me. That was awfully rude. :\

The thing is the only thing going on with Clamp is Card Captor Sakura clear card. That’s it.

what does this have to do with what I posted? Stay on topic or learn to quote the right person because I cannot see any correlation between your post and mine.

Well there’s really nothing new to talk about except Card Captor Sakura. (I’m a bit salty since Drug and Drop is on hiatus) so fans of Clamp most likely haven’t been a fan for a while except for CCS. You said the thread is dead so that’s why I relate it to this issue. Clamp hasn’t been doing well except for CCS.
