So I've been thinking about Idol Fan culture ever since the recent "incident"

This is kind of based on the W*ndy situation but not really. It's just that ever since her stereotypical impersonation happened for the second time I really started thinking about international idol fans (I guess celebrity culture in general) and how we perceive idols. The word idol is stupid in and of itself because an idol is analogous to a god or deity by definition so fans see them as that, and hold them up to such high standards. Somewhere around the time someone in my own bias group fucked up is where I realized that these people are human, they're gonna make mistakes and stuff. That's not to excuse them of their wrong doings, I'm still gonna call them out as I see fit but in the end that's really for my own satisfaction/boredom because they're not gonna see it and they're not gonna care unless they're company tells them to care.

Well, that's not entirely fair because I really do believe a group like MAMAMOO didn't do their shit with wrong intentions and I don't think they're bad girls and I do think they're sorry but they're one of the few idol who have fucked up and actually took responsibility for it so I give them that. I don't believe in holding grudges over heads because I know I've made insensitive comments in the past, the only difference is that I'm not a celebrity.

The only thing that comes out of all this is you get to see that not everyone is gonna be offended by what you're offended by, and you can try to explain it to them but really people of other races, nationalities, ethnicities, and other upbringings just aren't gonna care either because they don't understand it, choose not to understand it, or are just straight up racist. It's a circle of fighting really as we've seen here.

ummmmm all I really want to say is

tl;dr: Please do not get stressed out by these idols. I know you look up to them, love them, spend money and time on them but we don't know them. Don't put your expectations on them. Don't think that they will never fuck up, and don't be surprised if when they do they don't apologize.

Don't let the kpop community stress you out. I see a lot of black fans saying it can be hard to be a kpop fan, look I'm a black fan too and all this shit just isn't worth it. If this is really stressing you out please just think about taking a step back because none of these people are worth it, really.

please put that last part bolded on a billboard or something.

it's sad to see people get stressed out about something that's supposed to be fun and enjoyable.

current stan culture is very...intense and makes people think it must be "all or nothing". acknowledging there are parts of a hobby doesn't mean you have to stop liking something and even if you do stop liking something, you aren't a bad person and neither are the people who still participate.

im not sure if fan culture has always been like this but im seeing this in all fandoms im in, from kpop to cartoons.

get angry if you need to, but i wish more people would realize that in the end, this is supposed to be fun. cut out what you don't need, but don't push yourself to the edge trying to support something you dislike or disparage something you do.

the bolded feels a bit contradictory with the unbolded part and also feels as though it is placed in a western centric perspective

but i see where you're trying to get at & agree for the most part

I've only been a fan since 2012 and from my perspective fan culture has only gotten worse. Especially with stan twitter popping up.

I am from the west so yes it is as western centric perspective.

I also should've deleted the "or just straight up racist" part because I was basing that on some of the stuff i've seen here in the past day.

i don't think u need to delete the part so much as just add in cultural difference and ignorance? idk i haven't seen much on the forums recently because i don't go on anymore

I will never understand the mentality of someone who worships celebrities and who think that they're holier than thou. Why would anyone let something affect them on a personal level? You don't know this person that you idolize personally so why do you care?

Btw why did you put an * in Wendy's name?

It's annoying how people from the West think to know other countries more than locals themselves. I've even seen kpop fans claming that white people are adored in my country and receive good treatment aiutdhjshiyrio and they were attacking me for that?

while I heard many stories about white women being raped and killed here and people were laughing about that saying that it was right. Not sth to be proud of, but anyway. My views changed a lot when I moved to the west, so I know what I'm talking about. I'm also part white, so...

Just like you're ignorant about others countries and don't understand what they think is wrong or right, they're ignorant about yours. Kpop fans should start by understanding that, but they won't.

Elaborate please? I have no idea what the hell is going on, I've been overseas for 2 months and came back like last week.

What type of drama happened now? I noticed something about sexual assault.
