Ministry of Education demands acceptance cancellation for Yonghwa and graduation cancellation for Jo Kwon

Ministry of Education is taking an action against Kyunghee University students.
The Ministry of Education revealed that during their investigation of the Kyunghee University's graduate school, they found cases that were illegal. They will be demanding a cancellation of acceptances for 3 students and a cancellation of graduation for 1 student. They will also be seeking punishment for 7 professors who gave them preferential treatment.

The three students up for cancellation of acceptance are CNBLUE's Yonghwa, a 'Kim' that is an entrepreneur, and singer-songwriter Cho Kyu Man. The student up for cancellation of graduation is 2AM's Jo Kwon

Their investigation found that the three mentioned above were accepted to the school without the necessary interview for acceptance. They have concluded that Professor Lee, who was the Dean of Admissions at the time, had falsely given them interview scores.

Jo Kwon was found to have gotten his degree without following the school's requirements for graduation

The Ministry of Education said, "We will be looking over the police investigation and go through a council to decide the detailed punishment level for those involved. If the university does not follow the orders, we will be taking legal action such as banning them from taking any more students."

These are essentially honorary, or practical, degrees. They're getting them because they've worked especially hard as young people, and they're busy doing industry work that their degree would eventually give them access too.

This is, obviously, dependent on them working towards a Fine Arts degree and not something like... I don't know, biochemistry.

wait why Jo Kwon? Didn't he defend his case in his 3-posts long IG post? https://onehallyu.com/topic/645828-jo-kwon-responds-in-3-long-instagram-posts-about-his-controversy/

idk I looked at the original korean article http://news.naver.co...&aid=0004048873  but it doesn't clarify his situation

jokwon lied

The university allows students to replace the thesis requirement with performance, but Jokwon only submitted a pamphlet at the time of graduation and he only tried to cover it up when the problem arose by making a video clip of his half assed performance just last month. But it is ok he can fulfill the requirement next term and graduate, it is not like yonghwa whose programme enrolment is cancelled because he wasn't supposed to be accepted in the first place.

Anyways the fact is these boys are only registering for these courses just for the sake of postponing enlistment, and the university professors allow them to skip interviews, exams, other things required of a student and dish out degrees only so that they can go on to a higher degree program and postpone enlistment forever. That is not looked on too favorably.

He lied? For real? How you know? I was rooting for him, too.

4. [+92, -1] For all of you asking why Jo Kwon deserves this, it says right there in the article and even in his agency's statement. He was required to have a graduation performance as a requirement to graduate but he couldn't on the date he was assigned due to a personal matter and was ordered to submit a video performance instead but he was cleared for graduation without the video being submitted. He didn't submit his video until all of this blew up in the media and SBS investigated into it. He never wrote a thesis or submitted a video to earn his graduation. It doesn't matter how much of a hard worker he was as a student, he never met the requirements to graduate which is why it's being canceled now. It's not an unfair situation at all.

I saw. It’s just weird I thought Jo Kwon was fine in yesterday article they mentioned a total of six people were charged and the police never charged him or investigated him unlike Yonghwa. Plus he chose a non thesis type.

This whole thing is very messy tbh.

That's because Kyunghee is messy. These two are the scapegoats. Yonghwa thought he met the interview requirement and it seems Jo Kwon may have gotten bad info as well.

TBH, this feels more like punishing the students rather than the university, using scapegoats and witch hunting celebrities to take the attention off the actual issue, they want an easy fix and a quick process to bury this under the rug, but that university is rotten and should be their main focus now, not just the students who've done something wrong, especially not if they didn't know what they were doing was not the standard process! When are they investigating the professors and the university?
