Why do 2 types of microphones get used in the same performance?

Does anyone know why sometimes some members use a handheld mic and others use a headset mic for the same performance?

Is it simply because there are not enough of the same type of mics for everyone to use? I don't know why but they has been bugging me.

Generally handheld mic are for main vocals

Main vocals use a hand mike because they pick up sound better.

On BTS, for example, the rappers are the ones who use the handheld mics

I think it has to do with the choreography of the songs, or something

As mentioned above, the handheld mics are usually for picking up sound better and usually will be limited to those who are main singers. Many dance performance groups will mainly use headsets.

Sometimes there aren't enough of a particular type

Depends on the group's choreography - some parts probably require both hands to be doing something while singing

Basically if you're a main vocal or if you're going to sing live and have to hit certain notes, a hand mic is given to achieve better sound. i.e. pullung the mic away when singing higher/louder notes.

 

Face mics/headsets I see on everyone. But most of the time, they are useless because no one is singing live anyway. But if it is a difficult choreo requiruing a lot of movement, a headset is better.

 

 

But thats srsly one of my pet peeves. Seeing artists wearing mics when they lipsync 90% of their careers.

 

 

edit and i will say the black headsets are better than the nude ones. black almost always means they're singing live, or atleast partially live. Nude headsets sometimes are nowhere near their mouths so 6/10 its lipsyncc

Thanks everyone for clearing that up. I knew hand mics picked up sound better and headsets are better for the choreo. I didn't realize they were trying the get the best of both worlds.
