Anyone here familiar with following a Summer School?

My university is offering places at the Sungkyunkwan Summer School of 2018 without tuition fee. It's a great offer so I'm interested in making use of it while I can. I don't have any experience with following a Summer School though and I couldn't find much online.

 

Things I'm wondering about is how hard the classes really are, whether you get a buddy (this is very SKK specific), if you have time to explore the surroundings, how good a Summer School looks on your resume etc.

Only the tuition fee is free though. I also don't need the credits to complete my studies; I'm in law school from a European country. That's why I'm hesitant. The tuition fee is about 1200 euros I don't have to pay though, so that's a big deal.

how much more expensive to spend the summer there than at home?

Are the classes related to law at all

There's a class on human rights but that's about it. I do think taking a few business classes would be useful though, many companies here like you to have dipped your toes in something other than law at least. In my master's year I can do an exchange with another university in Seoul focusing on law courses.

 

Honestly the courses are a bit weird...? Lol like there's a course about cinema and you can only take up to three courses I believe, which makes me think it's not that serious but it's still something to put on your resume.

Here are the courses. Right now I feel like waiting for the exchange is a lot more useful but on the other hand it's quite special that the tuition fee is paid for by my university. I've looked into Summer Schools before but the tuition fee was always way too much for me to afford.

What are you looking to go into. If it;s corporate or tax law then those business classes would look really good. It's even better if you plan to practice in Korea. I think you should go for it

Imma follow this thread because I have the same questions. I have opportunity to go to Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Ewha. I have experience studying abroad for a semester but that was within the EU.

I'm not sure if I will be doing it since I'm somewhat leaning to China more. I need to find out if I can go in the first place, and my university isn't exactly being helpful. If I go to either countries I will be getting a language course and I need to decide which language I'd preferably learn.

Utrecht, jij? Ik kan alleen meedoen met het taalprogramma omdat die in augustus zijn, in juli heb ik nog tentamens evt.

Ik zit op de Radboud in Nijmegen. Mijn laatste her is ook ergens in juli, maar mijn laatste tentamen is de 20e zoiets iig en het programma van de SKK Summer School zou beginnen in 25e. Ik weet nog niet zeker of ik wil gaan, want ik ga met Oud&Nieuw al naar China dus dat kost al veel geld. Als ik deze zomer ook naar Korea gaat ben ik m'n geld sws kwijt lol zelfs zonder tuition fee. Spreek je zo al Chinees of wil je dat dan vanaf het begin leren?

Alhoewel ze daar misschien wel nog beter Engels spreken dan in Seoul dus dat heb je dan mee. Maar is het nu voor een taalcursus dat je de Summer School wilt volgen, niet voor andere vakken daar verder? Ik denk dat als je beetjes Japans en Koreaans kent het misschien nog wel beter is om Chinees te doen? Een Koreaanse vriend van me raadde me aan om eerst Chinees/Japans te leren voordat ik Koreaans ging doen en ik dacht echt vriend, hoe makkelijk denk je dat dat is lol.

Denk je? Ik zou juist denken dat het Engels in Shanghai erger is, hoewel ik ook niet echt hoge verwachtingen heb van Korea. Ik heb eigenlijk in geen van beide talen interesse, maar dat is de enige manier voor mij om deel te nemen eraan. Ik ga eigenlijk meer voor de ervaring haha. Andere vakken worden alleen gegeven in juli, for some reason. Huh, eerst Chinees/Japans? Dat lijkt me echt scheef. Het is dat ik nu een beetje de grammatica van Koreaans snap, maar het lijkt absoluut niet op die van het Japans. Chinees/Japans hebben tenminste nog overeenkomende woorden. 

 

Wanneer is jouw deadline? Mijne zijn ergens in april voor het geval ik wel ga.
