What non Chihaya otp do you all prefer for Taichi & Arata?

Do you all prefer Arata x Yuu or Arata x Shinobu or Arata x Someone else?

Do you all prefer Taichi x Sumire or Taichi x Someone else.

Taichi x Shinobu.

It's hard with Arata. Not feeling him with Yuu. He does have very interesting dynamics with Shinobu... But if that's so, I guess Taichi and Arata are destined to be in a love triangle. laugh.png

How about you?

Lol. I do wonder will Shinobu ever remember Taichi's name.

I will prefer Arata x Yuu.

For Shinobu, their interaction do not go beyond Karuta. He is probably the only person she considered as a friend. But the writer don't seems to developing their relationship beyond Karuta.

Shinobu & Chihaya has the snowmaru common interest beyond Karuta.

Shinobu rarely but even called Suo.

I will love to be a Arata x Shinobu shipper but writer didn't give enough shipping materials.

Yea, I don't think there's actually any Arata x Shinobu happening in the manga. But I realized that Arata doesn't even have any females around him other than Chihaya, Yuu and Shinobu. And Yuu... their relationship just seems sort of bland. Not a bad match, but not something I would want to ship personally.

Shinobu might just be inclined to remember Taichi's name if he wins Meijin. I think Shinobu has a lot to learn from Taichi in a not-quite-karuta area and in general them interacting with each other would be good for both of them regardless of romance, so I do want them to interact, but I don't think it's very likely.

I have been re-reading Chihayafuru & 1 of Arata's teammate confessed to him.

I do agree that Arata x Yuu is bland. Since Arata sibling zone Yuu & Yuu isn't involved in Karuta.

I think more interactions between Shinobu & Taichi will only happen when they become adults. Maybe it will happen when Taichi help out at Karuta association since he will be playing competitive Karuta for life.

Yes, probably.

Do you realise Chihayafuru never mentioned how did Chihaya & Taichi become friends?

It know that it is not part of Karuta so the series may have just skipped over.

Oh, what an interesting thought.

I think it might have been more of a Taichi trying to stick with Chihaya 'cause he liked her while Chihaya was friends with everyone back in elementary school?

My idea is that Taichi may have mistook Chihaya as a boy and got competitive with her. Chihaya has quick reflex and short hair Chihaya may also be mistaken as a flower boy by Taichi.

I have been thinking that Arata & Taichi may need to step out of the shadow of their mentor(Grandpa/Suo) to get stronger. Evolving their Karuta to beyond what is taught by their mentor.

This is definitely the key to Taichi winning against Arata.

8UUPo1H.jpg

It's easier for Taichi to step out of it as he is only under Suo for less than a year. But more important for Arata to step out of it with his goal of becoming a Meijin.

The 'Mashima is not my disciple' comment feels like a joke. But I think Suo may not recognise Taichi as his disciple until he feels that Taichi is a worthy competitor. To be able to win against Suo, Taichi will need to use his own playing style instead of just following what Suo has taught him.

Taichi-Chihaya match in 103-105 feels like a foreshadowing of Taichi-Suo match in Meijin title challenger match?

2 people that are very familiar with each other playing style playing against each other. Both Suo & Chihaya have good ears meaning Taichi can use similar strategy on the both of them.

Hmmmm.... interesting. Was Taichi not playing his anti-hearing defensive strategy against Suo all this time?

I found it that Taichi tends to lose when he wants to win, though. So wouldn't him learning even more extreme attitude of this sort actually make him more himself similarly to switching to defensive karuta?

I always felt that him losing when he really wants to win for himself is due to the fact that it just unconsciously brings him back to that time playing against Arata in elementary school. And that probably Arata was the first time when Taichi didn't excel at something and had someone much superior which made him want to win which made him do the thing that he's so ashamed of. There could be a point of forgiving himself for that act and letting go and thus being able to gain strength from his desire to win for himself with this match against Arata.

As for Arata, then I always thought that his personality is just similar to his grandpas and therefore their playing styles are also similar. But I must say that I have never given it much though. Though recently I've been wondering if Arata ever actually learned anything of substance from Harada-sensei and his current sensei. The only change to his game that I remember is his body growing and him improving his speed, the first he can't control and the second is something he knew already and it was a matter of time.

Sorry for the late reply.

I am assuming he is playing with his usual arrangement like how he normally played with Chihaya. Since he is trying to win against other players, especially Arata who doesn't have extra good listening abilities.

I don't really notice the pattern of him losing when he is trying to win. Only realise that 'Chi-ha' card affects his game a lot. Do agree that he need to let go of what he did to win for himself.

I assume Arata did learn something from Harada-sensei. Since Arata even took a 4hrs train trip to visit Harada. But I can't really remember.

I have been thinking that compared to Chihaya, Taichi, Shinobu and Suo, Arata's Karuta just seems less distinctive?

Chihaya - Talent

Taichi - Hardwork

Shinobu - Little Gods

Suo - 28 one syllabus cards

Arata - Cross Sweeping Move / Wavy Karuta

Chihaya & Taichi gets very general qualities. Shinobu and Suo gets very unique characteristics. While Arata is in between the general and unique category.

What do you think?

Chapter 197 is out!

Honestly I don't even know what to say. Taichi's game is about to be messed up perhaps? amgplz.png

I think Taichi will definitely win and this is the writer's way of having tension in this game.

I find it really scary when Arata suggested with a blushing face that he will take some cards without glasses.

Like he is not forgiving Taichi and mocking what Taichi did to him.

Understandable that Arata is not forgiving Taichi but the way he says it creeps me out? Like I wouldn't find it scary if Arata said it while looking mad or something.

I think that Arata has his ability to control the game, the ability to lure psychologically his opponent into the area of his control, the 'river'.

Chihaya has her hearing which other people have too.

Taichi has excellent memory and ability to not make mistakes.

I'd say Arata is rather unique while Chihaya and Taichi are not.

Shinobu is quite unique in the way she interacts with karuta, but her gamestyle is... well it's unusual, since she aims at all cards at all times, but other than that she's just fast.

I am so dumbfounded by what he said, I don't even have any comments.

Honestly at this point I don't even feel like Taichi will win, but I hope that feeling is wrong.

Ohh ability to control the game. I should re-read parts related to this.

The main reason I think Taichi will win is because the finals will be underwhelming if it's Arata vs Suo & Chihaya vs Shinobu.

It will be more surprising if Arata & Chihaya loses against the current Meijin/Queen.

While Taichi vs Suo has the unpredictability where majority feel that Suo will win. But there is still a possibility that it can go another way.

All the reasons why Taichi should win that we had before this chapter still work.

Arata just killed me really. I can't think straight of the situation anymore. unsure.png

I wish Arata said it loud enough for Chihaya to heard it.

Yeees. Also Chihaya added some fuel to the fire (as she often does) with opening the window. wthplz.png

It would be hard for her to understand though. She thinks sincerely of her rivals as her bffs and loves them with all her heart.

I think Chihaya tried to lighten the atmosphere. But I also think she did not realise both boys never really got over what happened when they were young.

They seems to get along well after they started playing Karuta together in elementary school.

Taichi never really got over his mistake and his jealousy over Arata is much heavier than Chihaya can ever think of.

But Taichi has also said things like he will create a Karuta Club with Chihaya while they wait for Arata. Taichi has also motivated Chihaya using Arata(becoming the West Meijin Challenger) when Chihaya was close to losing to Rion.

I want to make new prediction.

Tsutomu will be the card boy for Taichi if Taichi become Meijin challenger. Should be Sudo for Suo like when main characters were in Year 2.

A few of my previous predictions on this topic has been wrong. But I still want to post what I think will happen.
