Do you ever feel left out when people talk about their biases?

I don't get the bias thing. Any group that I get into enough to learn about the members, I just end up liking all of them. Then I'll see all these threads where people are talking about this and that about their biases, and I'm just like...

"Great, either I have no biases or I have something like 70 biases. How do I participate?"

Are any of you like this? Is it just me? It's probably just me.

The other thing that I've always been curious about is when people talk about choosing their bias. I can understand the idea of having a bias, but choosing who it is? I keep imagining someone sitting down with a spreadsheet and calculating who they want their bias to be.

Is this just a weird way of saying that you ended up liking that one person? Or are you actually making a conscious choice?

I want that one.

When people bias someone, it doesn't mean they don't like all the members. Liking everyone equally is weirder to me. I feel like everyone has preference to some degree and that's what I would call bias

Right, I know what it means. I guess it's weirder to me to have favorites?

edit: At least at the level that we're able to "know" them, which isn't very in-depth. I'm sure that if I got to know them all on a personal level there would be ones that I liked a lot more than others. Probably even some that I disliked.

I mean when watching a mv or performances you can't keep an eye on everyone you will choose one after a while

(I watch all in equal because they dance differently but when I repeat I watch my bias)

I don't have a bias in any of the groups I like either. With Seventeen, i have a favourite unit but that's it ilikeitplz.png

I always knew that you were wiser than your musical tastes let on laugh.png

As far as units, I much prefer OEC to 1/3 but that's strictly based on the music. I don't know any of the girls well enough to have an opinion them as people. I wonder if that'll change?

I'm usually all over the place with who I watch during a performance. It's pretty rare that I stick with one person unless I'm actually trying to just watch them. I'll usually make sure to watch one member all the way through at least once each, just to appreciate the differences

honestly it's all a lark for me. i have a couple of members in SOME groups, not all, that i LOVE and sometimes focus on a little extra but i never put them above my love for the group. i can't get into a member who is a part of a group i don't like. and i feel that way about a lot of artists and idols, so i have something like 3456788742345678 biases and i fully count a whole group as a bias. for example TGS or Perfume or RV, where i don't even pay extra attention to one or two members (used to with Perfume, but that was extremely short lived), the whole group is my bias laugh.png and i feel that way about all groups i stan more or less

I guess the next question is... is it something that happens over time? Since it seems to be the norm, have I just not been into kpop long enough to develop a bias-based mentality?

edit: that maybe sounds kinda judgy but it's not intended that way

My cases for my UB's and biases are that I didn't pick nor chose them. I just naturally liked them. Funny thing cause I followed or even Stan allot of groups at some point but I never had a bias in most of them. Like my case in twice, some members will take a lead in each comeback after a short while they'll be back at the same spot once again but they're still my top group. Biases are rare for me I only have a few that I really follow at daily basis.

I have biases in all the groups I stan but it doesn't mean I'm an individual stan

I got to know the group by watching their content and keeping in touch with their acitvities, but the "affinity" is always bigger with some of the members. It comes naturally, I start to be attracted by X member personality more than the others, maybe because from what I can see, they would be the type of person I would feel close to if I knew them in real life.

I never chose to bias a particular member, but it just comes like that with time, even if like a lot I guess, when I start to get to know a group I can say that I like X more because I find them attractive

For example when I got into NCT Jaehyun caught my attention by his visuals because damn, but after watching content I felt more attracted by Yuta and Doyoung because of their personalities and then I just ended up biasing them? But I still love the other members

No, I understand the difference between the two. I don't think that anyone is less of a fan of the group (or the other members) just because they have a bias.

So whenever you see people saying that they "haven't chosen a bias yet" or "need to choose a bias", what does that mean to you? Is that just kpop speak for "Nobody has emerged as my favorite yet"? Or are they actually saying "Well, X can dance best but Y is the best singer and visual so I'm gonna go with Y?"

My bias is usually the member that got me to stan the group because I feel the most connected with him/her. That doesn't mean I don't love the other members tho I even have bias wreckers that make me question my choice from time to time because they draw the most attention from me for a while.

I guess so, it's my case, but some people probably choose their biases because of the image it reflects like X stans are known to be chill or else

For me, getting into a group usually goes one of two ways:

I listen to their music and get into it, then want to learn more about the group (RV, BP)

or

I hear that they're great in variety, enjoy their personalities, and then decide to check out their music (Twice)

How does it usually work for you? If you don't feel that strong connection with your bias, are you still able to stan the group? Is that a requirement? Have you ever gotten into a group first and then chosen/developed a bias instead?

It's just something that happens over time. You realise you're watching 1 member more than the others and they make you laugh more or you find them more adorable.

With 17 Dino caught my eye during Mansae era but after watching their content and listening to their songs, I fell hard for Joshua. I adore the other 12 members and they kill it on stage but Joshua's my boy.

With NCT Dream, I really liked Renjun's style from day 1, he was the only one not overtly cutesy in Chewing Gum and then behind the scenes he was so different from his imagine. It was impossible not to like him

I usually like a lot/most of kpop music which means I could stan a ton of groups if I'd be interested in it lol

Most of the times I watch variety shows and one member really catches my eye. Or I follow the solo work of one member and decide to check out the group. Sometimes that leads to me stanning them all (like with Vixx) or it ends in me being an individual stan (like with Junho from 2PM). In the end my bias member isn't the sole reason for me stanning the group so I would indeed be able to stan a group even if the connection to my bias was missing.

The only groups I've ever stanned as a group first and chosen my bias after were Winner and EXID because I started to stan them solely based on their music and didn't even watch any shows about them at the beginning.

i have 1 or 2 bias in every group.

Its the member that draws your attention the most. When i watch a group, there are 1 or 2 members that i just like the most. Sometimes its the way they dance, the way they sing, the way they entertain when they do vlive or just the laugh/smile. It can also be visual (sexy OR cute, both is possible).

i dont think its a big thing. Its just the 1 person You like the most.

No, I don't think it's a big thing at all. It's just something I've never understood and I'm really curious about.

I'm not judging you guys for having a favorite, I'm just curious about the mechanics imstupid.png

You see I have 2 UB's and I'm a solo Stan of one of them while the other I became a fan of their group as time goes on (but obviously I pay ridiculously more attention to him like Asdfghjkl) . It's different everytime. For the other question Ah yes, I did, my case for snsd before I became a taeny trash. I think that you're not forced to get a bias at all means. I don't think I should get one forcefully just because. I enjoy them more as a group and appreciate their contents equally. It's always a different case for everyone.

How long do you think it took for you?

It depends on the group, I never change biases so I think it takes me longer to get attached. I got into 17 during Mansae era but didn't realise Joshua was my bias until I saw this moment in their Boom Boom MV and I was like yep that's my bias. So a few months.

With Renjun it was pretty much from the start, he caught my eye in the MV and because he was 1/2 who wasn't an SM Rookie member I didn't know anything about him and then I loved how he took care of Chen Le and how he was bilingual. It was bias at first sight.
