China is going to rate it's citizens!

China proposed this back in 2014 but it looks like it's really going ahead !

Basically:

"Imagine a world where many of your daily activities were constantly monitored and evaluated: what you buy at the shops and online; where you are at any given time; who your friends are and how you interact with them; how many hours you spend watching content or playing video games; and what bills and taxes you pay (or not)."

"But now imagine a system where all these behaviours are rated as either positive or negative and distilled into a single number, according to rules set by the government. That would create your Citizen Score and it would tell everyone whether or not you were trustworthy. Plus, your rating would be publicly ranked against that of the entire population and used to determine your eligibility for a mortgage or a job, where your children can go to school - or even just your chances of getting a date."

"While government proposals provide little detail about how scores will be calculated, current pilots use both online consumer behaviour and the scores of others in a person’s network."

This is something out of a dystopian YA Book.

What the—

As if the suicide rates aren't high enough in China. I hope this is a hoax because?????

IT IS REAL! I was so shocked!

Like how do you rate a baby? Based on their parents ratings or do you wait until they're 18? Does being rich give you a better rating? This is such a mess.

every country has their own statistics. I guess this is just one of many others.

Are you really comparing a public ranking system to other systems?????

Like the government gives you a number telling you how important/trustworthy you are, does that happen anywhere else?

I think you make to much fuss about it, when you don' t even known what they actually are planning to rank.

every citizen from my country has an unique identification number.

if China wants to stock informations related to a citizen be my guest.

tbh, I never understood how is possible in U.S for illegal immigrants to have legal business. Here you cannot, cause the first thing the authorities check is your identification number. You cannot do anything without that number. And if they check that number in their system they see your medical history, fiscal history etc.

I think the fact that they're publicly ranking people is scary enough. Who knows what effect these rankings will have on citizens.

hm why is it not everywhere on the news if it's true? ABi0i46.jpg

At least do your own research before calling it fake news.

There's been very little coverage internationally but it finally seems to be catching some attention as China's attempt to get rid of 2 term limits has bought more attention to their politics and domestic news.

That is not what China is doing. It is looking at how much money you have, what you watch, what you buy and who/where you hang out with and then giving you a number. A number that will decide where you can work and where your children go to school.

Why are you bringing up Illegal immigrants? what does that have to do with this?

US is a good example to give when we talk of the lack of  control system

this sounds dystopian. We should wait for more details, not panic.

when my country was under a communist regime, is true that the state decided where you can go to school ( usually the most closest to home) and where you could work. ( the graduates were assigned depending on their grades, in different cities)  and my city was closed. Outsiders didn't receive free homes from the state like the insiders.

later edit: china needs a life time to rank 1,5 billion people ;)

i was going to say "inb4 the china stans on this forum start defending this" but THEY'RE ALREADY HERE

They're weakly defending

"Oh it can't be real"

"Oh it's better than no control like the U.S"

And then when I try to debate them and give them receipts they disappear

You can bet there next move is to put people in cities based on their rankings.

0 - 1 million can live in Beijing

1 million - 2 million in Shanghai

1.3 billion - 1.5 billion in some shitty city.

Well people are always being pushed out of the good cities, wouldn't be surprised if they start doing it overtly and lol I'd be in the shittiest of shit cities.
