An idol group under Stardust Promotion which was originally known as Momoiro Clover when they were first formed in 2008 until April 10 2011 when they officially changed their name to Momoiro Clover Z after Hayami Akari's departure. Also known with their abbreviated name Momoclo (­Momokuro)

 

Before their major debut Momoclo was a street performing group every weekend, hence why they got their nickname as 'Weekend Heroine' (Shuumatsu Hiroin). They first debuted in August 5th 2009 with their single Momoiro Punch and had their first major release Ikuze Kaito Shoujo with Universal in 2010. They then moved to their current recording company King Records in August 2010 prior to their 2nd major release single Pinky Jones.

Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku (Japanese for "Ebisu Private Junior High School") was formed on the fourth of August 2009, making their indie debut in February 2010. They are known as the "king of Gakugei (school play)" and were marketed with their unpolished singing and dancing skills. They debuted as a 7-members girl group but have gone through a few member changes since. As of September 2018 Ebichu has had a total of 16 members.

I could have sworn they confirmed the Xmas concerts earlier this year. The only announcements I've seen are for Dec. activities. They were doing some kind of special screening this month, but I couldn't quite understand all the details.

International Fan Club? Finally ahmagahplz.png They made that International push a few years ago, then seemed to pull back. I guess theysee the success of some other groups are willing to give it another shot. I hope this means we'll have access to official merchandise. *They can keep the Swim Cap though, lol.

I think for Japanese acts an "international push" should be restricted to making the material easily available for foreign fans, and maybe going on tour if there's demand. MC seem to be doing that, with their US tour earlier, being on youtube and spotify, and now the fanclub. But maybe it's time for another anime OST, that seems to be the best way to gain international fans...

Those video files are weird. I guess a gif would be too large, so these files are more convenient when you want something that big.

 

Wizard of Oz Acrobatic Musical? 0u0plz.png This I must see, lol.

 

I saw the news about Kanako's voice acting gig. She's voiced this character before in previous movies (I found some articles from previous press conferences). Must be one of the perks of being the leader, although I think at least one of the other members has done voice acting as well.

Shiori is also in a drama I think. It's about a transwoman and she plays one of her coworkers if I understood things right.

It wouldn't surprise me if Momoka returned to showbiz eventually. It's all she's ever known, and celebrities who retire at a young age usually find themselves with too much free time and need some way to fill it up. But she seems like a very determined person and must have thought this through a lot so I hope she's happy. Then she might return in some capacity one day, but it will probably not be as an idol.

 

It's also crazy how she's already spent 20+ years in entertainment and finished university as a 22-year-old.

 

On another note I really wonder how this will affect the group, apart from the obvious loss of all that she brings to them. It seems like they were really planning on staying together for a long time. Their 10th anniversary is approaching and you would have expected them to stay together for atleast 5 more years. Hopefully the remaining members still want to keep going, and they don't lose too many fans.

Question: When Akari left, the name changed didn't it? Is there anything about changing the name?

 

Kanako: It's great to say, I guess it's going to be GT. In our opinion we would like to continue as Z.

 

Either Kanako or Ayaka: Does everyone say GTGT? *I don't understand the second sentence. Maybe she's asking what everyone else thinks.

 

Question: So it hasn't been decided?

 

Shiori: I want it to stay Z.

 

 

Since my grammar isn't as good as it used to be, I don't know if Kanako actually said it it's going to be GT. Nai can be both positive and negative depending on the context, so she might be saying "it would be great if I could say it's going to be GT". Also, the second question does make it sound like there hasn't been a decision. Personally, I do think they should re-brand to something else after the 10th Anniversary.

 

I was thinking that MCZ might only be around another 4 yrs. or so. With Kanako being 25, I was expecting her to retire from performing at 28 or 29. They could release a new album this year, and then one more farewell album before disbanding. Momoka made her reasons for leaving pretty clear in her statement, but with the 10 yr. Anniversary coming up, it's still so sudden. I said this in the thread that posted her graduation announcement, but she definitely seemed distant this past year. Her performances were still top notch, but in interviews and public appearances, she was very quiet and didn't seem like her usual self. It's entirely possible doing the solo activities made her realize what life could be like outside of the group and the idea of leaving became more appealing. I thought the idea of her graduating in a year or two to pursue a solo career was very possible.

 

I just don't know how they can perform all their songs without Momoka. Who is going to sing her lines? It also puts a downer on the Fan Club opening up to International Fans. Still, I want her to be happy. She's worked hard most of her life. Take some time and enjoy yourself Momoka. Just come back to us at some point in the future!

I read an article and it seemed like both Kanako and Shiori were against a name change so I doubt they'll go through with it, even if in the end it's the management's decision.

 

@sasori: kanako says "people keep saying GT! GT! to us"

 

I've been of the opinion that MCZ was effectively over the moment the last two albums dropped. It's like L'Arc or Ling Tosite Shigure - they'll release a single every once in a while to fulfill their contract, but the group is over, and everyone is going their own way. It's been a great run, but all good things will come to an end.

 

Also, Momoka will likely not return. I've my own very controversial opinions on that, but my feeling is that she will never come back, at least mainstream.

I heard that their contracts were up this month and they all renewed except Momoka, which is why the graduation announcement was so sudden.
