One of my cats was run over by a car friday :( There's various white cats in the same street but my parents are sure it was him. I still have the lil faith it wasn't him although he hasn't appeared in 2 days. I honestly don't know what to say to you. I just try to ave my thoughts filled with happy things

my cat has to be put to sleep tomorrow and i'm just wondering if any of you experience this, how did you get through it. he's been with me for the better part of my life and i just wanted some tips.

I gave my cat so much love in her last days that I have no regrets. She was treated like a princess.

And after the final day, I spent a lot of time with my friends.

I think both things helped me out a lot.

about 2 months ago i had to put down my 18 years old dog

i had her pretty much all my life...for as long as i remember

so it was hard trying to think about what it would be like without her, because i had never known that

i did cry a lot

and 2 months later, i still think about her almost everyday

but what helped me the most was just keeping busy

it happened while i was busy with college, so classes, work, hanging out with friends took my mind off things

i wish you the best

I've had pets put to sleep and each time was a different experience. I cried a lot through all of them. But as each day, and eventually each month passed it get easier. The first week is the hardest.

My best advice is to take time to grieve. Even though some people may not understand why you're upset over a pet, ignore them and make sure you're taking as much time over it as you need.

I found distracting myself helped hugely too. I went out with friends, did things with my family and even just distracted myself by watching youtube. The worst is when you have time to think, but that can eventually help heal. I guess just do something to help you get through it, it might even be making a memory book or something if that's what you feel like!

So sorry to hear he has to be put to sleep though, i don't know you but i hope you're okay

Let yourself grieve and don't hold back any tears or feelings of sadness that you may have.

Don't blame yourself for your pet's death.

Share what you're feeling with people who you trust like your friends or family.

Surround yourself with people that understand what you're going through

Maybe you should hold a funeral for your pet to make you feel better.

Finally, like other users have said time will heal the wounds.

So take your time with your grief.

So sorry for your loss and hope that everything will get better.

I cried for a long time over my parrot, it was really unexpected.  He was fine when I left him.  I had a another one, but he never attached to me like the first did, but he was attached to the one I lost so I had be strong for him and in the end we got another one to be friends with him.  But honestly it's not the same, they all have different personalities, and none are like my first that used to follow me around like a dog.  I was able to take him outside or leave the cage open he never left.

It takes time to heal.

Find what you think will give you peace. You can't really eradicate the emotional pain instantly, but if you reduce it to something tolerable, something "bittersweet", something like what Carl felt after he flipped through Ellie's adventure book (Disney's Up, 2009)

...so you don't have to punish yourself by forcing to move on, or forcing to grasp tighter.
