Another question, which one do you prefer for your bias to act?

I love IU's "You Are The Best Lee Soon Shin"  with 50 episodes. The plot is so good and all the characters are able to tell their stories, plus so many materials for IU.

At the beginning I don't have the confident to finished the drama because I have the tendency to be bored at the middle of a 16-episode drama so what more of the 50 episodes. But I keep watching and watching not only for IU but for the 2 other sisters and the 2 mothers. It kinda give me a good feeling at the end.

I don’t watch K-dramas, but from what I’ve seen the shorter ones become famous and the longer ones remain nugu.

I’d rather my biases not act. Save themselves the embarrassment lol.

I-fans know shorter ones better. 50+ can make you popular with gp and make sure you get steady gigs regularly.

I'd prefer shorter for my favs, as it's easier for me to watch.

Ah really? Then why does 50++ eps drama have high rating? Does the rating not helping actress/actor's popularity?

I didn’t vote bc I didn’t feel like it but I’m glad the selection turned out well lol.

I was out of OH in the middle of voting phase so I also didn't got the chance to vote but I'm glad they turn good.

High rating=/= famous imo.

There’s a lot of shows with high ratings in the US whose names I can’t remember, fame is one in a million but high ratings can happen for a multitude of reasons and they don’t always mean the show’s legacy will continue after it’s run.

50 episode dramas are usually the ones that air on the weekends. These are the family dramas, so it's popular among all demographics, especially older people. They tend to have the highest ratings week to week. KBS weekend dramas in particular usually reach high ratings of 40-50%.For shorter dramas, I remember reading that 15% ratings meant you could charge for premium ads. I don't know if that's changed since there has been a struggle to get double digits consistently and with the increased use of people watching online over through television. Impact is kind of hard to judge to be honest. You'll have dramas that achieved low ratings but we're talked about a lot like Go Back Couple. You'll also have high ratings dramas that don't seem to have as much impact. Of course there are also dramas that have the ratings and great impact like You Who Came From Another Star.

50 episode weekend dramas get you more attention with different aged viewers, even if your role is not a major one. If it was a choice between a hit 50 episode drama or a hit 16 episode drama, I'd probably want my fave to be in the 50 episode hit drama even if it was just a supporting role.

So, do those drama have significant impact to actress/actor in any terms?

Do you think 50+ drama is usually better than 16-24 eps drama? And why?

I do enjoy a good 50+ episode drama, but I tend to stick with the shorter dramas. The impact on the actress for the most part depends on the drama.

I usually watch shorter kdramas although I have seen 50+ shows before. The impact usually depends on the drama like Dae Jang Geum had 54 eps but it was a huge part of the Hallyu wave. My Love From Another Star had 20 eps yet it also had a huge impact. Internationally, shorter shows are usually more popular (DotS, Goblin) bc I don’t think i-fans would watch 50+ shows (Six Flying Dragons).

Popular actors like Yoo Ah In (Six Flying Dragons) and Han Hyo Joo (Dong Yi) have acted in 50+ shows. Both shows had solid ratings. Also Joo Sang Wook in Glamorous Temptation.

Usually Dramas that aired in prime time slot are more popular than weekend dramas even tough weekend dramas rating are higher. Some dramas with 50 or more episode were really popular such as dong yi and queen seondeok. I think it depends on the cast, story & slot time. But short drama are more popular within international kdrama viewer.

Actor or actress popularity depend on their scene in drama, there are some actor/actress who get suddenly popular because one specific line or scene. But they need a good exposure and project drama to keep their popularity.

Drama budgetary was arranged according their story line, usually historical drama need more budget than modern drama because their set, costume, etc but some modern drama has big budget such as goblin & descendant of the sun. Drama with a high salary actor/actress, great set, shooting in foreign country, ctg also make the budget bigger.

I wish he will do a short drama than long drama. Long drama is very exhausting for the actor.

Between a popular short drama and a popular long drama, the potential popularity that can be gained from a short drama is much greater. All of the actors and actresses who've made the largest gains in terms of popularity in the last two years have done so through starring in a hit short prime time drama. The viewers for long dramas tend to be on the older side so actors and actresses that star in hit long weekend or daily dramas often comment that they have a lot more older fans than they did before.

Imo, for longer dramas, the ratings are a better indication of popularity because many of the viewers tend to be on the older side and are more likely to watch the episodes on TV.

Both short and long dramas have PPL. Maybe it's due to biased reporting (lack of interest in long dramas), but I've never heard of any absurd PPL scenes in long dramas. On the other hand, DoTS comes to mind as one of the dramas with the most absurd PPL.

If we only focus on the 2010s, short dramas are generally more popular internationally than long dramas. For example, My Golden Life is a smash hit in South Korea, but internationally, it's not really popular. There are quite a few actors and actresses that received a boost in popularity in South Korea due to starring in a hit +50 episode drama, but did not really see huge gains in international popularity from those dramas. Then when they starred in a hit short prime time drama, they saw huge gains in international popularity e.g. Ji Chang Wook (Empress Ki - 2013/2014 - 51 ep | Healer - 2014/2015 - 20 ep).

I think long dramas probably get more bang for their buck. Top actors that are notorious for having high acting fees are more likely to star in a short prime time drama than a long weekend or daily drama.

I prefer my bias to act in shorter dramas in general unless it's a KBS 50 episode weekend drama. The latter are typically pretty good although there are misses here and there.
