I don't get it.You have million of International Kpop fans Globally who want to support their idol groups by buying their digital songs from the Korean music sites, cause It helps them win awards ETC.

The amount of money they would make though if it were allowed.

I went to every Korean Music site. And I always get the KOREA ONLY pop up when trying to download a song.

They don't want our money.

because you need a Korean social security number to sign up for these sites and/or they only take Korean bank details/cards or whatever. there are probably also licensing issues. it's not that mysterious

international fans can use one site, Soribada. though I don't think there are so many fans internationally that it would make a huge difference moneywise

It would be stupid. You can't buy songs from American Itunes if you don't live in America, and the same for other countries. It influences charts and many countries use different currency systems anyways

Itunes is Global. People from other countries can download songs from itunes. Umm iphones, ipads Ipods..ETC

And it's not fair that Korea has their own itunes store online, where they can download american music.

Apple - iTunes - 지금 iTunes를 다운로드하세요.

Rarely anyone in Korea uses iTunes. They download it all from the Korean music stores. Can you even use Korean iTunes store? It only has podcasts.

You can buy apps off Itunes, but you can't buy music.

all countries have their own iTunes store, the Korean one isn't special. some Korean releases are available on several international iTunes stores, but it depends on the country you live in and the company the kpop artist is from because, like I said, of licencing issues. for instance, I can usually buy SM releases on iTunes here in the UK, but other times I can't find tracks from groups from other companies.

Yeah I kinda agree with OP. I'd rather buy something on a korean site knowing I would support my group (not only with money, also with vote/popularity etc) instead of buying on itunes and hoping a little % goes to the artist.. you never know how that works exactly. Also I think many people download stuff because it's the 'only' (easiest) way for international fans to get something they want. They are willing to spend money but the service just isn't available! But I guess thats another discussion.

How is that unfair? American music is really big in Korea. When I used to usenpenpal sites most Koreans didnt want to talk to kpop fans...

Info please How? don't you need a korean SS # to shop online?

No you can't.

And the reason is because it's illegal for those Korea sites to sell music outside Korea.

To operate digital music service you need to have licensing agreements covering the country you're going to sell music in with both the record label owning the song you're selling AND with the copyright collective in that specific country.

Copyright collectives are the organizations handling payments of royalties to composers/songwriters.

For example, very many official music videos on Youtube are blocked in Germany, because Youtube have not reached a deal with the copyright collective in Germany (GEMA) and without such a deal it is illegal for Youtube to make those videos available to people in Germany.

And just like that, these Korean sites don't have deals covering other countries than Korea, so it is illegal for them to sell music to anyone outside Korea.

(actually, some of them are offering services to some other countries. Melon has started a local service in Indonesia for example http://www.melon.co.id and Soribada has an English language site which is different from their Korean site but the English site for outside Korea only sell downloads and not streaming)

I usually just buy physical copies of cd's, and then rip them to iTunes. That way, I support the artist, I help them with their position in the charts, etc., and still get to enjoy their music on my iPod/phone...double win! :)

Umm, I've had a Japanese iTunes account for several years and regularly buy music on it even though I live in the US.
