I always thought that Yoonmin is like the stereotypical Shoujo manga couple (which I guess is part of why they are so popular).

There's the misunderstood tsundere main guy Suga, who everyone's afraid of and there's shoujo protagonist Jimin, cute, innocent, very oblivious and clumsy, but with a heart of gold. Jimin probably falls for Suga because of his good looks or because he's so "mysterious" or something (because shoujo protagonists tend to be quite vain like that) OR after school Jimin is feeding some stray kittens/puppies when suddenly some thugs start harassing him, when Yoongi comes sweeping in beating them all up and then continues acting like he doesn't care ("They were in my way.") But after that Jimin starts following him around and Yoongi can't help but fall for him, even though he keeps on acting annoyed.

(And then when they finally somehow managed to get together, despite Yoongi being in denial and Jimin being super oblivious (which is the final of season 1), out of nowhere Yoongis fiancé appears, because he's actually the heir to a rich family and his family obviously doesn't approve of his relationship with Jimin and that's basically where your plot kicks in, although I guess if it's a Shoujo manga it needs a happy end...).

I agree yoonmin is super popular because of their dynamic.

In most fanfictions it's not the bad boy good boy dynamic though.

Usually yoongi is the elder and mature guy while jimin is very cute and nice.

some of these are SPOT ON, well done

Yoonmin would be the cliché of the mysterious, antagonistic older guy meeting the cute, innocent younger guy, aka every anime/manga ever. That's def part of why they're so popular, and why most of the popular ships include one of the more sunshine-y and one of the more cool-image guys (aka why Yoongi and Jungkook are part of all of them) lol

it was all cliché but I still enjoyed reading it lol

and yoongi's personality makes him a popular choice for shipping. that is why yoonseok and taegi are also popular because tae and hobi are both cheerful.

  • 1 month later...

I was searching for  something SugaKookie-related and I stumbled upon this thread. Forgive me for bringing it back up.

I feel like your cliche for SugaKookie fits KookieMonster more, especially since RM has always stated that he wants to work with Jungkook and Jungkook chose BigHit even when he had several companies courting him including JYP because he was in awe of RM's rap. And they've often talked about how they admire each other's work and talent.

At least within the SugaKookie community, a common trope in our imagines, fanart and fics is the Teacher-Student dynamic-turned-scandal not just because of the age gap but because Jungkook irl not only called Yoongi his eternal teacher but also often seeks the latter for advice on life and tips on music production and piano.

Their cliches also often include bratty, reckless and more naive youngster, Jungkook following the older, wiser and unapproachably cold Yoongi around like a puppy and constantly teasing him to impress him and get his attention but the latter just shrugs him off and thinks he's not mature enough to be with him. He'd also much rather be by himself. Cue something happening or just a year or two passing and Jungkook grows up and becomes more manly, popular and mature with other characters clinging to him...and that's when Yoongi finally takes notice of the young boy he spent the past year(s) ignoring and pushing away. Cue tables turning and Yoongi embarrassing himself countless times over juggling his inner conflict between wanting to approach Jungkook and just letting him be because it's "too late" to make a move at this point. Little does he know that Jungkook's feelings for him never changed and that the younger has still been pining for him all these years. Their fics are often tagged with "Both of them are bad at feelings" rather than only having one of them being emotionally constipated, lol like it goes for a lot of Sunshine/Cold Guy ships.

Also, as I've mentioned age quite a few times already, it seems to be a fan favourite trope and point of conflict among SugaKookie shippers which is why this meme exists harharplz.png

2mwSSn7.jpg

So basically it has Yoongi being attracted to the new boy, Jungkook, and then finding out about their age gap which sends him into a spiral of emotional turmoil because he's not sure whether he should make a move on him or not.

Haha thanks for the insight lmao. I read a fanfic about Joon and kook being the exact same thing you mentioned for Suga Kookie so that’s probably why

This is beautiful OP. I cackled at all the yoonmin. They really are popular because of these dynamics. You know. I know. *whispers* Everyone knows.

Oh my god?? I found this sugakookie oneshot fic that has some of these elements. Could be because personality wise, Yoongi and Jungkook are really compatible. I think this just became one of my all time favorite oneshots:

https://archiveofourown.org/works/13352802

I think everyone, even the ones who don't ship them, should read it. This fic really showed healthy dynamics between them.

Haha! I've read that fic before and even bookmarked it. @fruitily's one of my fave SugaKookie writers. That fic is just one of many that utilise the same tropes I mentioned earlier. YG and JK may seem different on the outside but they have a lot of similarities too actually, especially when you consider the fact that their Meyer Briggs personality types are the same. However, they're introverted in different ways and they offer a slightly different dynamic than the popular Sunshine/Tsundere ships like Jikook, Yoonmin, and Yoonseok.

Although, from what I noticed, when SugaKookie writers want to use the Sunshine/Tsundere trope in their fics, they often characterise Jungkook with his own brand of "sunshine", a combination of an introvert and optimist (shy, awkward, youthful and slightly immature, but full of hope and eager to please) to complement Yoongi's worldly and vastly experienced, cool guy persona.

Btw, I've read another fic where Yoongi was a college student who also worked part-time as Jungkook's piano teacher but the latter was in his final year at high school (iirc). Jungkook's parents trusted Yoongi to be just that, a teacher, but things happened, the two of them got attracted to each other...and they got caught by the parents. Yoongi obviously received the brunt of the blame since he was the older one and his relationship with Kook was shattered...until they met again a few years later when Yoongi was in his final year and Kook was a freshman. Then the story went on to detail the push and pull dynamics between them due to their past controversy. I really can't find it on AO3 atm but yeah. Their HYYH-verse fics also revolve around age gap and push & pull tropes.

Sorry for my long paragraphs. I feel like I've become a sort of SugaKookie evangelist at this point laugh.png

I know most tropes are overused but honestly... I like them laugh.png I would totally read most of those, especially the Minjoon (NamMin sounds weird??) one. I'm a highkey sucker for Sugakookie too.

Honestly fanfic writers are a blessing, my resolution for 2018 should've been leaving more comments.
