An entertainment insider revealed to OSEN on the 25th, "Kang Ho Dong has been constantly worrying and thinking a lot as he observed this situation... As a parent who has a child, his heart is aching. While looking for ways to help, he decided to directly donate to the rehabilitation and treatments of the students and teachers of Danwon High School."

Kang Ho Dong's heart is known to go out to children as not just a father himself, but as the MC of SBS' 'Star King' and KBS 2TV's 'Our Neighborhood Arts and Physical Education' through which many children appear as guests. A rep from Danwon High School, which had many of its students on the passenger ship for a field trip to Jeju Island, said on April 25, "Kyuhyun personally called Danwon High School and revealed his intentions to donate, giving us 25 million won (~ 24,000 USD)."

Kyuhyun did not disclose to others the fact that he donated, but rather did it quietly. Danwon High School is planning to use the donation for student welfare and activities.

Meanwhile, other idols who donated include MBLAQ's Lee Joon, miss A's Suzy, 2PM's Junho, and more.

i honestly don't get how these donations are going to help

it's not a rebuild after an earthquake or a flood, neither are people trapped requiring food/supply

does anyone know how tax deductions work for charity contribution in Korea?

korean top tax rate is 38% for income earning over $150 000 USD, i'd assume all celebrities on this list make that much. so honestly i expected bigger donations...

Funeral costs. Counseling for both students, teachers, and maybe even family members. A memorium will probably be built as well. Legal fees for those intent on seeking legal retribution.

We really don't know how much each celebrity makes or how they spend their money. They may donate to other causes and have expenses that we will never know about. I think it's a great gesture that they donated at all.

Does it really matter? As long as it's a decent amount, donation doesn't have to be proportional to income.

Most actors donated 100k and when someone donated 300k he got bashed for it.

Korean would judge them for being too generous and others would judge them for not donating more.

I'm surprised how an effing donation became a subject of judgement.

Of course these generous amounts of money don't diminish the grief and pain, I hope they will find a good cause for it and make the lives of the families and survivors a little easier~ Bless these generous idols.
