He actually never did anything wrong He didn't do wrong per se but he tried to handle too much at the same time and ended letting down Heejin. Even the actor agrees he's kinda jerky lol. The only thing he f-ed up on was not letting heejin know he was going to the military (while simultaniously letting literally everyone else know). When did he ever run away? When he realized he had to go to the Army he didn't let Heejin know right away, but he was planning on telling her privately. His only folly was that everyone in the school freaking knew. He was the ONLY character who communicated his feelings. Heejin should have told him how she was feeling about their relationship, cause every time he asked her she was all "oh its fine". He thought nothing was wrong and she wouldn't tell him how she was feeling. Also he faced problems head on. When he realized Hyunjin had feeling for him he shut her down quickly. Immediatly.
