Yang Hyun Suk to donate 500 million KRW ($481,000) to the families of the ferry victims through YGE's charity program

Many celebrities have been trying to help out the Sewol tragedy relief effort in their own ways, and it has been revealed that Yang Hyun Suk of YG Entertainment is among them. He will be donating a sum of 500 million KRW (~ 481,000 USD)!

According to representatives over at YGE, Yang Hyun Suk held a meeting with company executives, where he stated, "As a parent myself with kids, I have fallen into great anguish while keeping updated with the Sewol incident and spilled tears every time I watched the news... There are probably no words in this world that can console a family that has lost a child." With this, he announced that he will be preparing a fund of 500 million KRW to be donated to the families of the victims of the tragedy that will be handled through the YG charity program.

 

A rep at the agency told Osen, "Throughout the meeting, the mood was very grave. After hearing about Sewol, Yang had already put a stop to all the activities of the agency artists, and had proposed that all employees participate in the mourning. Since then he had been wondering what he could do to help those who had become victims of the Sewol ship."

YGE has been operating a charity project called 'WITH' for a while now under the direction of Yang Hyun Suk, and the campaign had participated in numerous donations to children's hospitals and more to help those in need. 

 

The rep also added, "Yang has decided he will initially prepare 500 million KRW of donation and that YGE will look over the process and take the responsibility to make sure that the funds are delivered to the families who have fallen victim to the tragedy."

Other reps of the agency confirmed the news with various media outlets, commenting "Yang Hyun Suk has decided to give 500 million KRW to help the victims of the Sewol tragedy,"as well as "With Yang Hyun Suk as the center, all of YG had been in mourning and had been wondering how to help, and so this decision was made."
