Got two huge laughs two weeks in a row! Laughed so hard @ god usopp's bounty and by imagining Pica's voice. Now I can't wait to see those scenes in the anime. Toei better not mess it up!

Best theory out there

 

This is a really famous theory. I think the OP got some things right like Joyoboyo connection to Joy Boy, the destruction of the Fishmen Island to destroy Mariejoa (although I think it's because Fishmen and mermaids will come to the surface and live with the Humans). But the whole theory about the Void Century is wrong. I think what the former government wanted to do was something deeper. Maybe abolish the nobilitary? Make everyone equal. It's too simplicist for Oda to make a goverment kill and witch hunt anyone who wants to know the truth just for this. I agree about the fact that the former kingdom is named after a name we all know. Maybe it's Shandora, maybe it's Raftel. 

 

I'm angry with Oda, he totally fucked up Robin's badassery. Not only her new hair is fug but her clothes are a joke. She used to be so cool-looking, so sexy and edgy. Now, she's walking around in beach clothes. This is so wrong. I think Robin peaked visually at Thriller Bark. I wish I'll cosplay her one day in her fine violet dress and garter-belts.

Lol I caught up with OP in 2008/2009, after Marineford Arc and I got spoiled real hard. I feel your pain. Where are you now?

 

Finally caught up with the end of Dressrosa Arc! Kaido's reveal was amazing, didn't expect him to be so cool. I expected some old beast-like man! I feel like shit will go down during the next 1/2 Arc because Oda pumped us about this emperors battle royal ever since end of Fishmem Island/Punk Hazard.

This chapter was way too much. Oda delivered once again 

 

So many people were mocking BM's crew and calling them weaklings but they showed the class of a Yonko crew without the help of BM or Katakuri or Cracker.

Late to react but DAMN that was a crazy chapter. I can't help but feel like the end is soon 

 

We only have the Reverie arc, Wano Arc, Elbaf Arc, 2nd Summit War Arc left....

This chapter was OK but too short (about 5 pages shorter than usual). Apparently it was a mess created by Shueisha hectic deadlines, the mangaka from all WSJ mangas had to submit 2 chapters in 8-9 days because of the Golden week break. Other mangas like Boku No Hero Academia or Black Clover were impacted with shortened chapters and half assed drawings in some pages. 

 

We got an introduction of the RA commanders who manage to be eccentric by OP standards. I'm digging their overall visuals, Karasu looks super scary and I like the dynamism of Lindbergh (I be his the RA's Vegapunk). Also others pointed out that Belo Betty is inspired by the French painting of Eugène Delacroix Liberty Leading the People (she's activating her power by waving a flag, wears no bra and leads the people into freeing themselves). Oda stays amazing!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Can't wait to see how everything will unfold. I bet this Reverie arc is another Zou-sized transition arc. I like it since it would be tenuous to go from a 70+ chapters arc to anoter 70+ chapters arc without a short break (imagine going straight from Dressrosa arc to WCI arc?). I know Oda will deliver staging wise!

LMFAO Wano is so going to be lit with this huge ass line up: Big Mom crew + Kaido crew + X Drake crew + Apoo crew + Wano's Shogun and his men vs Straw Hat crew + Law crew + Kidd crew + Marco crew + a few samurai/ninja and maybe some unexpected help (giants?)?

 

I just read the theory "Shanks mastermind" and I'm believing this 100%, just hope Shanks doesn't turn to be evil......... H y p e for the rest of the arc and the "Rocks" crew that may be the "lurking legend" that will show up this year according to Oda! Oda's editor also said this Reverie arc would be about 10 chapters long with shocking reveals in each chapter!

yeah, and I think upcoming Wano arc will gonna be the last major arc before Raftel/One Piece arc. so it's gonna be Epic! not just those crews. if BM really join the fray, I guess the whole Strawhat Alliance will come to join as well 

 

about Shanks, I'm really curious about him. can you give me link about that theory?

given the fact that Gorosei willingly to accept audience wih him is beyond my comprehension. even for Yonkou standard. I'm sure Shanks himself is really a special individual. I remember that he is the one who ended the war in Marine Ford 2 years ago. well, officially Sengoku who ended it, but it was as Shank's request. for Fleet Admiral to accept his request, which means that Marine and Gorosei really respect this guy. and I think it's not because he is powerful or charismatic person. so, who the hell is he? 

 

10 chapter of Reverie, wow, that's one whole volume of world building chapters. nice  I really love when Oda give us mini arc/interval between major arcs. which usually we can have revelations of previous mysteries. but also foreshadowing of upcoming events. another answer but also another questions  but I guess that's the beauty of One Piece! 

 

I looked it up and I couldn't find a version in English of the "Shanks mastermind" theory which comes from a French speaking fan and has been out in 2013 but I'm going to translate to you the relevant parts:

 

 

 

1) Why has nobody reached the One Piece since Roger, while some have been sailing the New World for decades?

2) Why did Shanks save a kid's life at the price of his arm?

 

The answer to question 1 seems obvious: a "special condition" is needed to reach the island. What made Roger reach this island, and for the moment no other? Basically, what sets Roger's crew apart from other pirates?

 

Well, it's Roger himself: Roger was a "D". The "D" are extremely rare, it is well known.

 

But, you're going to tell me, Roger was not the only "D" who was a pirate: there is also Blackbeard and Ace, for example.

 

This is where we can make a connection with Shanks: Roger had a descendant, and nobody knew anything about it: his wife and son were 2 "D". He hid them from the World Government, we know ... but maybe from someone else, too?

 

Shanks and Blackbeard have long been enemies, from the scar to Shanks' eye. If one trusts his flag, he had his scar even before founding his crew.

 

Here is my final theory:

This people was extremely powerful and fought a war against many countries, which today met under the banner of the World Government. Doflamingo gives us some clues about this: 20 countries, 20 kings, constitute the origins of the World Government, including the Nefertari and Donquixote families. 20 countries against one, you will say, caused the void of 100 years? What was the scale of this war? What was the power of the "D" kingdom to have resisted these 20 countries?

 

Only one thing can give so much power, or rather 3 things: the 3 ancient weapons. The "D" possessed these 3 weapons, Pluto, Poseidon and Uranus. This is why "Pluto" is mentioned on the Poneglyphs of Alabasta, a country that fought the "D".

 

Back to Shanks: he discovered, along with all Roger's pirates, the true story and the ancient weapons on Rough Tell, the ancient kingdom of the D .. Only, Roger did not want to continue the fight of his ancestors and he left Rough Tell with his people without anything. Why ? Because he was sick, dying.

 

But that does not mean that he does not try to pass on his fight to others: he tried to tell him how to reach Rough Tell, but he was not interested. On the other hand, when Whitebeard tells him that he has a "D" in his crew, Roger will tell him what the "D" really are. But Whitebeard, before dying, will say to Blackbeard that it is not HE, the man Roger was waiting for.

Roger could not convince Whitebeard to go to Rough Tell, that's why he will engage the Navy for public execution, and to launch a big wave of piracy, so that, perhaps, "D" "Survivors can reach Rough Tell.

 

What relationship with Shanks? Well, Shanks does not want to go to Rough Tell to fight the war against the World Government. He wants to return for the 3 ancient weapons that will make him the most powerful man in the world. But for that, he needs a "D".

 

What are the surviving "D" at this time? We know a few: Blackbeard, Garp, Sauro, Dragon, Ace and Red.

 

Shanks' first target is Blackbeard: he tries to convince him to come with him on Rough Tell, so that they both become the most powerful men in the world. But Blackbeard has never been interested in ancient weapons. Shanks, knowing that Blackbeard will never cooperate with him, will try to kill him so that he can not serve anyone else, but he will fail and end up with the famous scar.

 

Shanks will then try to find other "D"'s, but Roger, knowing Shanks' intentions, will hide his wife and son away from him and from the World Government. Red will die giving birth to Ace. Ace will long escape Shanks' knowledge, however.

 

Now what's left for Shanks are Dragon and Sauro.

 

In my hypothesis, Dragon was part of Roger's pirates: because the few times we saw Dragon, there was a storm: the execution of Roger, the Gray Terminal incident, or when he saved Luffy of Smoker.

Dragon trained the Revolutionaries following Roger's execution and what he discovered about Rough Tell Pups. For the moment, the Revolutionaries are the only force that really fights against the World Government, it is the struggle of Roger personified. Impossible for Shanks to put Dragon on his side, their objectives being radically opposed, Dragon wanting to overthrow the World Government and Shanks wishing the ancient weapons for himself.

 

So stay Sauro and Garp. Being Marines, impossible for Shanks to put them on his side ... But the "D" are generational. It is enough for a current "D" to have an offspring so that Shanks has a hope to return to Rough Tell.

 

Shanks learned that Dragon had descendants. That's why he set sail for East Blue, and stayed 1 year (which is still huge for a pirate!). Why 1 years? To put Luffy on his side. He made sure that the kid attached to him, which came to fruition when Shanks saved his life. Odd, huh? Why would a man like Shanks have sacrificed his arm for a vulgar kid? To put it in your pocket.

 

Because as soon as he saved Luffy's life, Shanks left. You'll think, "Why did not he take Luffy directly with him to Rough Tell?" Answer: Because, having sailed himself on the seas, he knows better than anyone how dangerous it is there, especially in the golden age of piracy. He could not take the risk that Luffy would die, because it was his last chance to reach Rough Tell. He prefers to wait until Luffy is strong enough to pick him up himself.

The plan is running. Shanks can wait a little longer, but he has learned that another "D" is still alive: Ace, who came to him himself to thank him for saving Luffy. Everything then changes for Shanks: he is no longer obliged to wait for Luffy. Except that Ace joins the crew of Whitebeard, and we know what is happening: Blackbeard betrayed the crew and fled, with Ace at his heels.

 

Shanks does not want to see 2 "D" kill each other: that's why he will send a first message to Whitebeard (through Rockstar), then visit him in person, all this to ask him to stop Ace. Normally, what would a guy like Shanks have had to do with Blackbeard and Ace? Nothing. Except they are very important to him, that's the only way he can get back to Rough Tell.

 

Unable to avoid a war, Shanks will then move HIMSELF to Marineford, to save all the "D" that can still be: Luffy, Ace, Blackbeard and Garp. He will not succeed in preventing Ace's death, unfortunately. Luffy is the only card he has in his hand. Shanks, seeing him unconscious, will realize, in his own words, that it is "not yet time" for them to meet, because Luffy is still far too weak for the New World.

 

That's the end of my theory: in conclusion, Shanks is not the nice and disinterested character he lets appear. Everything sticks so that he is actually motivated only to return to Rough Tell, with Luffy, and get the ancient weapons.

 

 

 

My take on this theory:

 

I don't agree with most of it but I believe the OP of this caught something important: Shanks might have been there at Fushia Village on purpose. It was not a random meeting since why on Earth would one of the emperors (or maybe a powerful rookie if he wasn't an emperor at that time) stay 1 year on a random village in the weakest sea of the world and why would he give up his arm for a random kid? I don't know what are his motives but he has/had a plan concerning Luffy. Now I don't think it's to reach Raftel again but for something linked to the D, Lost Century etc. since he seems close to the Gorosei.
