Synopsis

 

Don Lockwood is a silent film star with humble roots as a musician, dancer and stunt man. Don barely tolerates his vapid leading lady, Lina Lamont, who is convinced that their screen romance is real. After the first talking picture, The Jazz Singer, proves to be a smash hit, the head of the studio, R. F. Simpson, decides he has no choice but to convert the new Lockwood and Lamont film, The Dueling Cavalier, into a talkie. The production is beset with difficulties, by far the worst being Lina's comically grating voice.

After a disastrous test screening, Don's best friend, Cosmo Brown, comes up with the idea to overdub Lina's voice and they convince Simpson to turn The Dueling Cavalier into The Dancing Cavalier, a musical comedy film. Meanwhile, Don falls in love with an aspiring actress, Kathy Selden, who is providing the voice for Lina. When Lina finds out, she is furious and does everything possible to sabotage the romance. She maliciously demands that Kathy continue to provide her voice in all future films, but remain uncredited. An irate, but desperate Simpson is forced to agree; Kathy has no choice because she is under contract.

The premiere is a tremendous success. When the audience clamors for Lina to sing live, Don and Cosmo improvise and get Lina to lip-synch while Kathy sings into a second microphone while hidden behind the curtain. Unbeknownst to Lina, as she starts "singing", Don, Cosmo and Simpson gleefully raise the curtain behind her, revealing the deception. Kathy becomes a star, and Lina is finished

 

 

The highlight of this musical is an on-stage rain shower, 15,000 litres of water will be used

and TAP DANCE, ballet!!

 

The original movie is absolutely wonderful . Since 1952.

This version is great too, by GLEE cast, mix Singin' in the rain and Umbrella (Rihanna)

LOL, you are underestimating musical talent of Cho Kyuhyun. He is praised A LOT by musical director and casual fans. He has received Musical Rising Star Award like 3 years ago. Read more Naver blog review from normal audience if you want. 

Yeah, currently, he and Junsu are the only 2 famed idol musical male actor in Korea.~.

But this is the FIRST musical produced by SM though  . May be you mean movie/drama, a different genre from musical...

 

Anyway, the copyright is bought from the original movie so storyline is no problem though.

 

Give SM a chance to redeem itself. LOL. Let's judge after we see the press call cuts.

EDIT: I'll be in Korea for the last two weeks of its run and I'll try to go (if one of the shows with Onew fits my working schedule...yes I'm biased), I'll make sure to give y'all some fanaccount of sorts. ;)

And not only SM idols are in musical, there are idols from other companies too: Yoseob, Hyungsik, FT Island's Lee Jae Jin, Jokwon, Si Wan, Jun.K etc..Just that SM has 124321 idols more than any other company so it gives you that impression

I initially wasn't very thrilled when I heard Kyuhyun was cast in a SM produced musical and I still can't help but feel it's quite the downgrade from his last. But I trust he knows what he's doing, so I'll be looking forward to see how things turn out.
