Which male idols do you think are gay?

Recommended Posts

I think this post relates a lot to the kind of hate this thread in particular gets, but I'll put it in spoilers anyway because it's OT enough...

Is anyone else getting really tired of this "you can't call people gay" thing? I've been noticing this for a while, but it's starting to bother me a lot. I don't think the people who do it are necessarily being intentionally homophobic, but it is nonetheless. It's like whenever I say I think someone might be gay, some (usually straight, just telling it as I see it) person replies with "You don't know that! There's no way to tell if he/she's gay unless they specifically state it outright! To imply anything else is making assumptions based on harmful stereotypes!"

It's like the person wants to be an ally but doesn't understand that in a world free of homophobia, being gay (or sexual orientation in general) wouldn't be some taboo topic that nobody discusses unless there are outright admissions or undeniable receipts. Treating it that way does indeed enforce heteronormativity, because nobody treats heterosexuality that way. If some dude walks down the street on the beach with a gaggle of women in tow and I say something along the lines of "that guy must be a playboy," the people with me might point out that the guy might be a jerk or something, but they wouldn't ask me to prove his heterosexuality. If some guy walked down the road with a bunch of fawning men with him and I said the same thing, however, the response would most likely be like "Don't just assume he's gay! They could just be his friends or something! Or his fans! Don't just stereotype him/them!" :imstupid:

It's like...and I know I'm getting more OT here, but it's kinda like when certain people accuse others of being racist for even discussing racism. It's like they think that something will go away if we just don't even acknowledge that it exists. Issues like homophobia or racism don't go away when we just make it unpopular to talk about them. Saying someone might be gay shouldn't be treated as an accusation. I see a lot of people on OH collectively frown on this thread because people here supposedly think people are gay based on stereotypes that somehow in turn create "harmful" profiles of what it means or looks like to be gay, or something. Like, I'm (not) sorry that I don't think it's less important to accept and celebrate gay people and gay culture than it is to accidentally mistake a straight person for one? That fear itself of being perceived as gay is based on insecurities that stem directly from homophobia anyway, so screw it. People here aren't hollering from buildings into the idols' faces or anything, yet that's how we get treated.  :imstupid:

I just needed to say that, sorry. Private message me if you want to comment on it, I guess.

It's popped up a few times, yeah. I'm even more critical of it than you, actually, I think there's just normal homophobia at its core, only the progressive kind: the one nicely dressed so it looks presentable to the one married to it. They are able to grudgingly accept you as an LGBT person, but only when they've got nowhere to run. It's what you get when a progressive person does not confront their own conviction that being LGBT is something less -- perhaps something that requires help or compassion, but less nonetheless.

That's what it seems like to me too. And it doesn't help that he's so shippable with literally everyone.

Hey guys!!

Seems like many people have left the thread (altho I dont get on much lately to make sure) ~ I assume it's bc of summer  :meow:

I thought I'd ask anyway tho ~ how do beardings work in the kpop world?? Like ik more or less what happens when pr stunts/relationships double as beardings in Hollywood etc but how does it work in Korea? Is it the same or is it more lowkey and the companies/agents just let the public kind of /assume the couple in question is in a relationship with each other??

Also, if there's an appropriate thread already made for this kinda info, or if its mentioned somewhere else pls feel free to redirect me and ignore the above questions  :hehe:

Thanks a lot in advance!!

Jongup, I not sure but I think our sweet boy could have some kind of mental illness that make him act and answer outside the norm so it's difficult to catalog his sexuality. But I have no idea which illness could be... it not a obvious case like Vixx Leo.

In spoiler since it isn't "gay talk"

You're refering to autism right? Some time ago I talked with a fan who has autism and said Leo's behaviour is exactly that of someone with some level of autism.

I will be that guy because this apparently needs repeating: high-functioning autism by itself is no mental illness. It is merely a difference in how the brain processes information, which leads to functional impairment in social interaction -- mainly because the other way of processing information forms a distinct majority.

I really want to believe in yunjae but the shippers just ruined it for me. :/

That's not a bad outcome, actually, and I wonder if some of them were so loud and obnoxious on purpose. If the truth can't be supressed nor ignored any more, the best option is to drown it in craziness.

Part of this denial is, of course, the fantasy fans harbor, but another part is the facade of politeness that homophobia creates. I'm reminded of a quote by Dan Savage: "My mum was of the generation when thinking someone was gay was literally the worst thing you could think of them, so you didn't think that -- 'cause that meant you were a terrible person. My mother thought Liberace was straight."

It's weird to me that people are actually riled up over this? Like it's so easy to just dismiss it as a joke, of all the things EXO does to get all 'oppa didn't mean it he likes virginias he's not gay' over, it's this? It's not like he ripped his pants off to reveal a rainbow c-string printed with the phrase "Daddy's Little Bottom" and started vogueing to Born This Way, he said he liked men (half-jokingly) in reference to the fact that there were many male fans in the audience that night.

If there were no grounds for suspicion, as it were, everyone would laugh. (Korean fans most likely did.) It's precisely that the possibility is real why this little quote became a topic.

He pings me a lot tbh. And not only to me, but to members who have been posting here and have been wondering about his sexuality. Actually a considerable amount of his fans (including me) think that he is bi at least.

I also showed some of his stuff to a guy friend I have, who happens to have some gay friends (although I also have) and he says the same as your friend- nothing to see. Perhaps because they don't watch him regularly? Idk.

Try to show his stuff to your gay friends, maybe.

I just don't want shippers to attack me tbh :/ I like the way you answer. It's very thoughtful. :)  I want to know, if you had a crush on a fellow bandmate, knowing that you weren't supposed to harbor such feelings, would you continue being super friendly with them(like all touchy and interact-y), or would you tone it down and try to keep your crushy feelings in check(still being lovely with them but at a lower scale)?

The problem with theoretical questions of this kind is that what I would do might be the opposite of what the person actually involved does. Some people will conceal and try not to feel, others will get swept by the feeling.

How is it a prank? I'm relying just on subtitles here, so...is it something lost in translation?

Korean has the same word for boyfriend and boy friend. So it is impossible to tell whether he avoided answering by a pun or told the truth because he knew people would hear the pun only.

What do you guys think about NCT Ten and Johnny..the relationship between them is really endearing.

(etc.)

My guess? Intimate friendship based on mutual understanding. What kind of understanding, now that looks like the interesting part.

I'm kinda disappointed by the lack of Sehun x SM Gay Line selfies out there. I mean I'm upset with the lack of Sehun selfies that exist period, but...

Also why do I always get this vibe from Key like he's one of those really catty, messy, lowkey toxic gays?

Key has said himself that he used to have no filter but that he changed and now considers the other person's feelings more. From his early variety it's a safe bet he could be pretty vicious if he wanted; point is that he probably stopped wanting.
