Which male idols do you think are gay?

Recommended Posts

I just started getting into ASTRO and all members seem very chill to me. Like, I don't sense any gay vibes or queer vibes from them... What do you guys think? MJ may be very flamboyant with his gestures but I don't know what to think, really.

I was talking about Jaehyun earlier- how his company tried/still try to erase his personality/persona despite him obviously liking men and being goofy.
What are the idols you feel may are in the same situation ? Rowoon and Eunwoo imo

I agree with Jaehyun. Wouldn't know about Rowoon because I don't follow SF9 but are you referring to Cha Eunwoo? Hmm, really? I started stanning ASTRO a few weeks ago and to me, Cha Eunwoo seems a bit curious but could you elaborate? I would love to hear more please

Hendery kind of pings sometimes, same for Lucas. Especially Lucas lol, he seems to enjoy attention in general no matter the gender. Yangyang and Kun are most likely straight.
Not trying to ship or something but Xiaojun and Jaehyun were really sus during NCT 2020. And that clip of Jaehyun checking out Xiaojun is iconic lmao

Hmm, I agree with Lucas. A lot of people say that he's the straightest heterosexual dude but for me, he could be bi. I think it's more than just "enjoying attention" from anyone...

Well, it seems like Fantagio is doing the same thing as SM with Jaehyun, they market them as some types of princes for women. It feels forced in general (it’s not as bad as with Jaehyun but tbh Jaehyun might be the worst case). I might be wrong but all of these idols are visuals and companies love doing this. Since L from Infinite (I think) spoke about it I side eye a lot of companies.

And the whole 97 line group (Jungkook, Jaehyun, Mingyu, Eunwoo...) seem LGBT, very bi lol.

On another note, I can’t believe people call Lucas/Jaehyun/Johnny/Mark the straightest of the group when Renjun, Chenle, Yangyang, Winwin and Kun exist. Not saying they are LGBT (Jaehyun though...) but they have more sus moments than some members.

Please elaborate bestie. Like I previously mentioned, I've been getting into ASTRO and Cha Eunwoo does act more freely with his members and is very touchy but I didn't sense much... I'm no expert though lol

Some thought this during the whole 97 line scandal that although the guys are probably into girls, it seems like they can  be lgbtq. I think 3/4 click like Jungkook, Mingyu, and Jaehyun have their sus moments, but what about Eunwoo? Does anyone have things to add about him or do we agree he seems very straight?

Eunwoo is hard to read, like user Oriane said. He's affectionate with his members and other people but I don't sense anything... ASTRO must be the most heterosexual kpop group I've seen lol. MJ is a bit sus but still, its 1 out of 6. What do you guys think?

Well like I said, he’s really hard to read. I do think he’s into women, but men ? It’s a possibility but not too sure.

Someone said this but straight and gay people can be friends. It’s possible that Eunwoo is straight but open minded and has gay/bi friends. But when your whole group is sus... That can tell something too. I don’t have a fixed opinion of him. If anyone knows Astro well that would be great to hear your opinion.

Hmm, yes, he is hard to read. Like I said before, I've been getting into ASTRO and their dynamics are very friendly and seem genuine. I don't sense repressed s**ual tension like in some groups lol. MJ, who is a member of ASTRO, played a gay character in the musical "Everybody's Talking About Jamie" last year but that's it. He's a bit flamboyant though. Our king Jo Kwon was in that play as well, so they must be acquaintances...

That is definitely something, hahaha.

I started following ASTRO a few months ago and I don't know what to think. Like, I don't follow many groups but I've seen some sus behavior from NCT and EXO but ASTRO just gives me "wholesome friends" vibes. They just seem to get along very well and because I don't sense "s**ual tension" between members it may be hard to find someone who pings, at least for me! Although people ships many members but that is not the same thing...

Why do you get mixed signals from Rocky?

I was just gonna make a post about Astro because there seems to have been a few questions about them in the thread but there aren't any Arohas here to answer..so here goes.

  Reveal hidden contents

Disclaimer: I'm not gonna focus too much on linking receipts bc I just finished finals and I'm not in the mood to do more research that I'm not sure ppl will care about, but if anyone wants anything specific I've mentioned I'll try to find it..I've been a fan since predebut so most of this is from memory/vibes, if y'all have anything else feel free to share

I saw someone back in this thread call Astro one of the straightest kpop groups and I think if you judge that based on in-group sus moments you'd be 100% right, as they clearly see each other as brothers more than anything else but I think there's still things to talk about. However, since there aren't many sus moments within the group and, apart from Eunwoo, most haven't rly had a lot of public interaction w other dudes, this'll be more gender norms stuff/personal vibes/throwing everything out there.

  Reveal hidden contents

MJ: I think he's gay but still struggling to fully accept it or pursue romantic relationships. He talks and expresses himself very flamboyant manner: high tone voice, limp wrist, lots of hand gestures, etc when he's with Astro but when he's by himself on interviews/shows it's a lot harder to coax those mannerisms out which implies that it's still something he finds hard to express outside of the people he lives with. He was originally going to study fashion design if he wasn't an idol and described himself as "the little sister of the group" despite being the oldest guy. This might have been the origin of Moonbin calling him daughter and Eunwoo calling him son but idk. More importantly, none of his interactions with women seem to have any romantic undertones imo and his ideal type has never gone beyond "a girl similar to me" and when the members asked him about getting married he said "no, I'll just be the performance for your weddings." He played a gay drag queen as his first acting role and seemed like he got into it a lot and there's stuff like this as well:

The reason I think he still struggles w it though is because it seems he's had quite a conservative upbringing during Astro's early years saying stuff like "a man only cries three times in his life." and referencing the bible in interviews (ik there are progressive christians but as seen in the article posted earlier but it seems the vast majority in SK aren't). He kinda reminds me of Jonghyun in the way that he'll one day seem very comfortable in his self expression and than revert back to a masculine persona the next. I also think he's just insecure in general because, the group makes fun of his appearance/weight to an extent that is just uncalled for tbh. I don't think it's mean spirited or anything but because MJ always plays up this class clown self-deprecating persona that the members think the jokes don't really effect him, and on a individual basis they don't but yk death by a thousand cuts. I mean if you're an somewhat average guy in face/body/height and three of your members have had six packs since predebut and the other two are tall perfectly proportioned pretty boys (one of whom is f*cking cha eunwoo) you're gonna be insecure anyway. Ik it seems irrelevant but body issues I think play apart in issues of sexuality as well bc if you think you're unattractive you're less likely to make a move on someone else. He made a lot of new friends last year through Jamie and Super Five and seems to have gained confidence so that's a good thing.

Jinjin: Straight. He's never given any indication otherwise. Word on the street apparently is that he's had a normie gf for a few years now and I think that tracks with his vibe in general like he doesn't seem attracted to men in anyway but he also doesn't have that weird tension/awkwardness that other male idols have with female idols. Just a very casual and chill dude overall who does fanservice without much fuss one way or the other and you can tell he adores the members. He cried at the end of MJ's musical (which everyone expected since he cries during p much every movie according to the members) and it seems like he was raised in a very warm and loving environment and isn't embarrassed at all by his emotions. I'm pretty sure he wore those pride shoes as well but I'm not certain. So yeah, nice open minded dude.

Eunwoo: Straight. I mean he was literally inspired to become a singer bc a girl he had a crush on had a ftisland pencil case and he gets super shy and acts cool whenever he's around a pretty girl. His dad told him not to date 'til college but he had a high school gf anyway and if he was gay he'd probably just keep the promise. He's admired muscular guys before but not in a way that rly feels different from 'nice gains bro'. He's friends with the '97 line which has implications for some ppl but personally...eh. He apparently would visit Kino alone late at night in the practice room/dorm after shooting Gangnam Beauty which sounds sus but the way Kino brought it up was way too casual for it too actually be anything like that. He might be bi with a strong preference for women but I doubt he'd ever realize it unless the right experience happened/guy came along. He's clearly single as hell rn regardless.

Moonbin: Straight (unless he's masc4masc and way overcompensating lol). He's fairly openminded, played a gay character in his drama, said clothes have no gender, he's besties w Seungkwan who I don't think is gay but I also don't think would be friends with a homophobe. He reads a lot of manga/webtoons and fanboys over some male characters in the action one's but if that makes someone gay than almost all guys are, he also read True Beauty before Eunwoo was cast or anything which isn't the typical macho pick but..eh. He doesn't seem as nervous around women like Eunwoo but I think that comes from him having a sister super close in age (Sua) and a close female friend since childhood (SinB) as opposed to Eunwoo who only had a brother and was told to actively avoid girls throughout middle/high school. And I don't remember him having any notable interactions w men, maybe Eunwoo but I think most of the binu ship is just reaching by straight girls who want the hottest members together or that his fixation on MJ losing weight was some weird negging but that's way too much armchair psychology for me.

Rocky: Bi or Straight. Ok so I've seen ppl bring up Rocky's interactions with Eunwoo on this thread but the thing with Astro being trained under an acting agency is they are basically like theatre kids doing bits constantly. During debut era Rocky was the humor killer and they'd all stop laughing/pretend to die whenever he entered, Eunwoo just started calling MJ son out of nowhere and just sticking with it for years, etc. Since around knock era the members have been joking about Rocky being obsessed w Eunwoo so lately he's been extra flirty with him, stares at him intensely while sneaking up behind him, etc. some of this might be motivated by genuine attraction but it's impossible to tell how much. He makes a show of not liking fanservice involving him but seems rly gleeful watching other members. He's friends with a lot of the female '99 line: Chuu, Kim Lip, JooE, Suhyun, Yoojung as well as Lua. Yoojung and Lua r notable to me as they're close being openly bi/gay themselves. He's been experimenting with more gender neutral styles (hairclips, nails, jewelry) and when he covers ggs he blends both masculine and feminine moves as opposed to Bin who just straight forwardly masculinizes them. On the other hand there are a lot of times especially during debut where he asserts that he's super manly so... Idk he just gives me vaguely bi vibes like even if he's straight I could see his gf being bi.

Sanha: ???. Because Sanha was so young when he debuted I rly couldn't tell anything and as he grew up I kinda just felt/assumed that he was straight but I saw someone who wasn't a fan say that they thought Sanha was gay because he's never acted differently around women and thought about it and realized that...yeah. I couldn't think of a single time Sanha's tried to act cool or acted differently in front of a girl ever, he just keeps his annoying baby brother persona. He has more feminine mannerisms as well and you could probably make a fancam similar to the Taehyung one's posted here w him. Weird how I didn't notice these things until now I guess because it blends so well with his cutesy persona. He's also the first person to call fanservice/skinship weird or say the members are perverts though so I'm rly not sure w him.

Well that was longer than I thought if anyone has receipts pls share!

Wow, I'm a baby AROHA but everything you wrote made sense. Thank you so much 😊

Spoiler

MJ: I think the exact same tbh! But I've noticed that even if he may try to subdue his mannerisms outside of ASTRO he still keeps being himself and that's a good thing.

JinJin: completely agree. He is so very chill and seems to hate drama. There is a video that I watched a few days ago, from 2016 I think, where ASTRO was roleplaying (as usual lol) with this other female idol who is an actress (friend of Sanha's) and JinJin had to pretend to be gay in a relationship with Eunwoo and had to reject that girl lol. But JinJin did it very professionally, didn't act like your usual straight dude will do with super high-pitched voice or extremely flamboyant manners. He was just very cute and serious. So, that tells a lot from him.

EDIT: the video is from 2017! Here it is:

From 9:12 until 10:13

Eunwoo: I also think he could be bi lol. It's not that he's sus but I think there is so much going on in his head and he knows how control himself...

Moonbin: he seems straight but very open-minded, yes. And he's not afraid of getting close to people, no matter their gender I guess.

Rocky: I also agree. I also think he's just very straight-forward and says things just like they are so he's not afraid to compliment Eunwoo lol.

Sanha: he's just very cute with very cute mannerisms, I agree.

Yeah I almost put just a ??? as well with Eunwoo just bc he's mentioned recently how he feels this divide between the person "cha eunwoo" and "lee dongmin" and he often feels like he makes choices based on what people think cha eunwoo would do rather than what he (lee dongmin) actually want to do, to the point that he isn't sure what he wants/what his actual personality is. It seems to be a common problem for idols and I imagine it can intersect with being closeted in a nasty way. But yeah bc of the lack of actual sus moments I'm just assuming he's straight for now... He could follow Wonho on insta tomorrow though who knows.

Spoiler

Yes, I'm so mad I discovered them just recently! Oddly enough, I knew ASTRO was a kpop group already and that Cha Eunwoo was in it (I have watched 3 of his dramas lol) but I didn't like Eunwoo THAT much to actually try and look for more info about him. But ASTRO's performance of ONE from Studio CHOOM was in my recommended videos on YouTube and I clicked on it and BOOM! Instantly loved the song, Moonbin gave me Michael and Janet Jackson vibes in it and ASTRO are great performers. Then I watched ASTRO's 100 sec choreo video and I really really started to like them. A lot. Also, JinJin seems to be my bias (though they are all extremely charming) with Moonbin in 2nd place.

And regarding Eunwoo, adding to what you just wrote, he also cried on "Master In The House" when that married couple was talking and he said that he wanted to get married... He seemed very lost in thought and conflicted, so yes, straight until further notice lol (because we all know marriage is only legal for men and women in Korea).

The scream that came out of my mouth at that last sentence HAHAHAHA. Imagine him following Wonho  :omgtears:

not really imo

CMBYN was pretty big in S.Kor, and just globally tbh. I think it falls into the same category of notoriety that Blue is the Warmest Color, Carol, The Handmaiden, Moonlight- and as the user stated above- Brokeback Mountain do (although we can argue about the quality of each).

It's one of the more mainstream, accessible (?), LGBTQ+ movies that tonnes of straight people watch. If anything, it shows that they just may be more accepting.

I would say maybe if they watch older/more niche LGBTQ+ movies (alongside CMBYN), then maybe it's a receipt (because then it'll seem like they're seeking out LGBTQ+ content on purpose). Movies like Paris is Burning, Edge of Seventeen or heck, maybe even Booksmart.

Booksmart is soooo good, wow. But wait, Edge of Seventeen? I don't remember any LGBTQ+ theme on it... Or am I crazy? Sorry for my ignorance, I watched it like a year ago...

SOPHIE is very popular among the people who listen to her type of music; queer and non-queer alike. She was an innovator; a brave, unflinching artist that so many people admired. Part of what made SOPHIE so special was the fact that she was a trans woman who was able to bring all types of people together in the name of art and music. I don't like the idea of pinning her talents and her outreach to just queer people (not saying you're doing this, btw).

Unrelated to the thread but I learned who SOPHIE was a few months ago because I went to see a local play and in the intro, they played Faceshopping on the screens and it shocked me so much. The quality, the artistry, wow. A visionary.

People, what do you think of SF9? I recently got into them, heard some of their music and watched some videos and they are very affectionate. They kiss their cheeks a whole lot and don't seem embarrassed, which I love. I have some suspicions but I wanted to hear someone's point of view here.

You're certainly right that there could be tension between some members, and it is very possible that no real relationship will ever be established outside of just mutually liking each other.

I was speaking more in a general sense, but you're definitely not the first person I've heard that has those same thoughts about Johnny and Ten. I'm not sure if Johnny pings for me personally, but I can see why he does for a lot of other people. He strikes me as someone who is very laid back and open and confident in himself, and overall is down to have a good time. Him and Ten are super close, have great chemistry, and are absolutely hilarious, so it's a no-brainer why so many people enjoy them together.

If I had to name an idol pair I'm curious about though, SF9's Hwiyoung and Taeyang are interesting to me. I'm always a bit afraid to mention them anywhere because they are one of the most popular ships among the SF9 fandom and I don't want people to think I'm crossing into delusional shipper territory, but at the back of my mind, I feel like something is there, but I'm not sure how far it goes. They don't have many overt or innuendo type moments together as far as I know, and they're also not very into fanservice and all that typical idol stuff, but they're very subtle. Frankly speaking, SF9 as a group overall is very confusing and such a mystery to me in terms of figuring out who is straight or not, so if anyone has any insights about those two or SF9 in general, I'd love to hear them ^^

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :)

OMG, you are so right!

SF9's Hwiyoung and Taeyang have a certain vibe going on, for sure!

I don't know about Taeyang because I cannot read him very well, but Hwiyoung seems like someone who is very chill and open-minded so it could be possible.

For NCT, Ten and Taeyong give off a certain similar vibe as well...

I agree.

Is it fanservice? Is it real? Was it because he got super scared and needed comfort? That type of comfort though? Was it all of these? Maybe.

I don't even know what to think. When I watched that I felt embarrassed; like when you see a couple doing an intimate thing and you feel like a third wheel? Yeah...

Okay this I think would be one of those cases were queer people do their version of fanservice and hide in plain sight. The level of comfort and the way he enjoyed smelling him, I know that face 😏  And the one standing, this isn’t the first he let him hug like that.

Very interesting to watch.

Very interesting indeed.

Most of SF9 (if not, all of them mostly) are very hands on with skinship and sometimes it's hard to distinguish what is fanservice...

Hmm, not kpop related but I know that Timothée Chalamet (who some assume that he may be gay or bi) really likes Xavier Dolan's films as well.

It could mean nothing because he is an actor. For example, many people loved Moonlight and it does not mean that they are queer but I didn't know Key has mentioned that...

Interesting indeed :stud:
