Okay, this is so late because I had four classes I FUCKING HATE LINGUISTICS  but anyway with Lay and the whole butt thing I feel will finally write the things I've been thinking about him for the longest. I feel like growing up in China this kind of guy on guy action is not something he was normally exposed to and if he was, it was probably in a negative context. No. I think the guy is really firm when it comes to things like keeping promises and not breaking principals. I think he's straight and I think he genuinely thinks he's straight too but probably in denial maybe and may even mistake his urges to touch his members in a way that would normally come off as sexual for close friendship or strong bromance or something

 

But really, I feel like if he had a day where he could just take a break and drop his principles, everything he has been raised to believe is wrong or right, the eyes of the public constantly watching him, and just do whatever the hell he wants without fear of repercussions resting on his shoulders, he would bang a dude. 

 

Don't know if this makes any sense, and I rushed through a lot of it, but like I said its just a theory.

I said this before too, I think his brother is gay or at least bi which is why Doyoung is so casual about boyXboy stuff (saying he'd be Johnny's boyfriend, saying there's nothing on is mind but Jaehyun - and Jaehyun concluding that they're boyfriends lol). From what I've noticed men with a gay brother tend to be chill and dont do the whole "no homo" shit, and considering Doyoung has shown interest in women (and so far none in men) my conclusion is that this is the case aka his brother (who does ping) isnt straight.

Yeah, I agree that could be the case. I think he pings a bit tho, but it's difficult to tell if it's just his way of acting around people or what.

This. I've been following this thread for years, and I've lost count of how many times people here had to make the same point again and again. I agree with you. It seems that most commenters here are lonely horny gays (I am one too, lol) and delusional teenage girls who tend to blow almost any display of affection between two guys out of proportion. I have seen so many straight male friends irl who did stuff times gayer than what has been discussed here. What do you think about NCT taeyong?

 

 

He's still difficult to read, but he pings as bi to me. About how much he's open/experienced about it, I don't know. I don't have time to elaborate on that with photos and GIFs, sorry, but I've tried to observe him for a while and he stares a bit too much at his bros. It may be his way of staring at people, but I'm not convinced. It's not a matter of ships, he does it with most of them, more or less. 

If he was fab or "effeminate" (for a lack of a better term, sorry) as Ten, he'd be immediately suspected imho, but since he's ""manly"" he falls off everyone's gaydar. Moreover, if we really want to speak about mannerism, his strong image isn't really a thing because he's actually....really, really cute and soft once he's comfortable. 

 

He's clingy af with his bandmates, both on and offstage, and one could argue "non straight people aren't clingy because they feel insecure about it", but I actually think different people experience these kind of things differently, based on my personal experience. 

He gives me the impression as someone who's still discovering different sides of himself, he's not an open person like Yuta or Ten or Johnny (whatever their orientation is...well, except Ten lmao). Like, in NCT life in Seoul, Yuta actually knew more about Seoul's districts than Taeyong himself, who was born and raised there. I kind of see him like someone who was really closed to the world till recently, and maybe his awkward way of interacting with boys it's a part of that "opening " process (absolutely no pun intended) . Who knows :')

The more he relaxes in front of cameras, the more we get to read about him. He's not an easy one. 

 

Plus he spilled the tea about being submissive with his lyrics, who knows if he does indeed like both sides 

 

 

It's hard to tell with Winwin since he's only really starting to come out of his shell now due to getting better at Korean. During NCT Life in Seoul, he barely spoke at all, but he pretty much completely won me over during the more recent NCT Life: Korean Cooking King (he's so cute!). I'm not sure yet about his orientation, but he sure knows that he's cute and uses it to his advantage. He likes to use aegyo to manipulate the other members into buying him stuff or helping him out in some other way, and I bet he does the same to SM staff too. Kun called him "cute, but dumb," but it's hard to tell whether he's really like that or if it's an act he uses. I haven't really seen any interaction with him and women yet, but he did ping me a bit in the Firetruck MV. Anyway, have some Winwin being adorkable:

Well, while I agree that sometimes this thread goes a little bit too overboard with ships, saying that you can gather nothing from idols' interactions with one another is wrong, imho. 

 

Sexuality is always part of oneself, it's not like an idol switches off his sexuality when he/she's on stage and turns it on the moment after, there's no such dichotomy in real life. Ofc, someone might be able to "hide" it better, or "manage" it better, but some hints are always there, since most is expressed through involuntary movements and nonverbal communication. 

I hide my sexuality at work, but be sure one who's paying enough attention would notice, because if a hot girl passes by either I force myself to stay impassible, or most likely I'll react to that. 

And that's just one example. 

 

Actually, I think idols doing fanservice and exaggerating skinship often highlights where someone's swinging. It's not doing skinship per se, it's how you react to it that gives it away. 

 

Honestly, If I were a LGB girl/boy and was surrounded by hot girls/boys and I could just do shitloads of skinship with people not even suspecting me/ just taking for granted that I'm straight...hell, I'd go down with that. And I think it happens a lot. 

 

Ofc, ships per se are not a proof, one should analyze various moments and try to keep it as rational as possible, but often ships are also the best interaction we can see for some idols. It's just a matter of how you look at it.

Yuwin is genuine in the sense that I truly believe that Yuta cares about him and that they're close nowadays (he said he didn't want Win Win to face the same difficulties as a foreigner he had to face), but I think they're pushing the ship.

And about Tao. I see people going on and on about him being "toned down" when he came back to China but I can't really see it? I mean, where? He's the same and sometimes even more...  explicit, he had lots of gay moments since then and he even stood out for LGBT, the way he acts is the same, his  so called mannerisms are still here. Considering he was always very honest and became even more of that when he got outta SM cage (ofc there's some image control lying beneath - as always, but it's not that deep). I always thought he's more of bisexual though so some moments don't surprise me much.

hello i'm not sure how often jackson is discussed here (and tbh i'm too lazy to go through all the pages) but what's the general opinion of him on here? i know some people say he's gay/bi because of all the gay things he says but imo i think when it comes to sexuality, the best evidence is always the most SUBTLE you know what i mean? 

 

i feel like if jackson was gay or bi he wouldn't be flaunting it so openly. like, i'm gay and i'm always conscious about acting 'too gay' in public (unless i feel safe) because i risk outing myself, and i'd be even more conscious about it if i were a k-pop idol. but with jackson, i feel like with every 'gay' thing he does there's a level of disconnect there, which is the biggest reason why i think he's straight. it just seems like it's part of his down-to-earth personality and is trying to be funny. i don't genuinely ~feel~ like he actually gets horny for men if that makes sense lol.

 I think it depends a lot on the personality and on how much that person is comfortable with his sexuality. Sometimes it's true, the more you're afraid to be "too out" in public, the less you're touchy. 

But I've also seen plenty of the contrary, especially when none's actually suspecting you're LGB 

I personally think that's Jackson case, he's very open and comfortable about it and his personality allows him to play with it. (I think he's bi, btw).

About the Kinsey's scale discussion above: 

 

It's a rough method, sure, and the data coming out from it are not really significant for various reasons, but recent studies are basically confirming its validity. 

Studies are demonstrating that the younger the sample is, the higher the amount of non straight people (over 50% in a British study, If I'm not wrong), and it's not because Satan's doing his job or maybe he is indeed *dundundun* but because society is becoming more open about it, so I wouldn't be surprised if the actual number of bisexuals (of whichever kind) outnumbers heterosexuals. 

Here in Italy there's recently been a survey amongst high-schoolers, and, overall, something like 60% identified as bisexual. It's not really a proper study, but I think it's a good indication, considering that we're talking about a conservative country. 

 

I think environment plays the biggest role in this respect, yes, we all have our inclinations since day 1, but how much you actually experiment and discover about it depends a lot on where you are: college, for example. In my personal experience, this came out to be true (well, for girls at least, don't have much experience with boys sorry   )

Especially Jongin. God, I've met too many of his fans (the mature ones) who changed their mind after they started following him/noticing how he really is.

 

I never gave him attention before, because he came off as arrogant, but then I started noticing things (and lol, there were no ship involved during this process, like some people here are trying to imply) and I realized his real personality.

 

Once I started properly following him, I concluded that boy wasn't straight. If I met a guy like that in real life, I'd want to coddle him, not date him lol.

 

 

I agree with you. People are using out people for their 5-10% conclusions. How many people are out, do you think? 

 

Let me tell you. If someone is bisexual, there is a higher chance that they'll identify as straight, no matter which culture they are from. The stigma is still there for the LGBT people, and no one wants that. 

 

I fall in 2 (or maybe 1.7 lol?) in the kinsley scale it seems. I've looked at my share of girls, there was a rumor going on in my uni that my best friend and I were a couple (we were always in our own world, and rarely let anyone in, not to mention our overly familiar skinship, so I don't blame them), and I've had girls subtly hit on me (and no, didn't reject them), but I'll not be caught dead admitting that I might be non-straight, what with how my society is. 

 

Even if my society becomes more lax, I'll still probably not accept because I like men more, especially romantically. It's just easier to call myself straight. 

 

How many people are like me around the world, people who lean more towards the opposite sex so consider themselves straight? How many who lean towards the same sex are in the closet? 

 

What makes people think the 5% conclusion is the absolute truth is beyond me. Studies are manipulated. Real life experiences aren't.

Yes, exactly. I've seen plenty of people that even admit they would do something with the same sex and then identify as straight anyway, because it's not considered as a true deviation from the norm. It looks like you're not actually LGBT unless you shout it out.

My infectious disease professor at lesson told us that they don't even count "being part of the homosexual community" as a risk factor for HIV  anymore (in clinical practice, at least) because the same-sex relationships are so widespread even amongst the so called "heterosexual population" it just leads to confusing data. 

 

But what happens to you happens to me as well-somehow-and I'm bi and I have a girlfriend, but since I don't tell anyone but close friends and I've had boyfriends before, everyone just takes for granted I'm straight. And since being out could be a problem, I won't try to change their mind for a while. 

I have two groups of friends, one from the uni and one I've met through kpop: in the first one 3/5 girls are bi, in the other 7/9 are lesbians or bi. In the last one, we started off with just 3 bi girls, but then the number grew, because we started talking about certain things till two of them who didn't even think about it before became a couple. 

 

Of course, personal/episodic experience is not scientific proof, but I think it happens quite often to be ignored. 

 

The "5-10%" thing is just the tip of the iceberg, people are much more complicated than that and discrete categories just don't apply to such a fluid, multifactorial thing as human sexuality. 

 

But I mean, bi people still struggle to be accepted inside the community because they're often viewed as "confused" or "greedy", we still have a looong way to go.

i'm saying the kinsey scale isn't accurate because it primarily measures sexual behavior, not sexual attraction. it’s geared primarily towards a person’s actual behavior rather than their own understanding of their identity; if you’re a woman who’s only ever been with men, you're a 0 on the kinsey scale which would make you straight... even if you're only attracted to women. 

 

True dat, I was thinking about more modern surveys based on the Kinsey scale which take into consideration attraction as well, but yes the original one has this flaw as well.

 

I'm surprised more people don't peg Suho as gay... not just bc if the stuff mentioned in this thread but because he has a rumored BF who's not another idol. To me that kinda makes it seem the most legit bc if it was just shipping it'd be with his group members but this is some dude he's just really close to lol
