But Heechul gives a somewhat different vibe. He once said that his longest relationship lasted 3 months, so he could be not interested in dating at all, and not only with women. As far as we know, asexuality does not naturally occur in healthy humans. It is a symptom of various disorders of the body, brain, or psyche. Promoting it as an orientation is 1) inherently false, given that you can't be oriented towards nothing; and 2) potentially damaging to the individuals who would otherwise seek treatment.

I understand the need to feel normal, but treating a disorder like a sexual orientation is not the way to go about it.

 

And hell, maybe I'm wrong. All of the currently established facts point to me being right, but maybe a few genuine asexuals have defied what we understand about biology and evolution by slipping through the cracks and ending up how they are without any kind of trauma or disorder involved. The point is that most people who identify as asexual are suffering from some kind of disorder, and if we encourage them to accept it as normal without even seeing a doctor, they could at best be missing out on something they would've otherwise had, or at worst end up really fucked up, or even dead if it's particularly serious.

 

It's great that you wanna be all happy rainbows and all-inclusiveness, but sometimes you need to take a large step back and look at the big picture. Sexual orientations cannot be caused by trauma or diseases or disorders, asexuality can and usually (or always, though the jury is still technically out on that) is. That alone should be enough to give some serious pause. The fact that it doesn't seem to be just shows what a fucked up culture we've come to live in where political correctness is more important than actual correctness.

 

So given the current evidence on the matter, I will continue to regard it as a disorder and encourage those who think they might be experiencing lack of sexuality to seek out the counsel of a medical professional before anything else.
