But how do we know? Just because he looks and acts as feminine doesn't mean he is gay.

Besides his team mates always touch and do skinship with him. Doesn't make them also gay ? and it must feel bad for Ren when they do this if he is tend to like boys

Oh come on.

Jo Kwon, Ren, Sehun and Heechul are really the only people that have pinged me or have otherwise some evidence they might not be totally straight. I've been watching the thread for years, and these are the only three I'm more or less sure of. And I wouldn't be surprised if G-Dragon came out as bisexual either. But that's about it.

Is it just me or do alot of posts get down voted alot here lately even if they aren't that controversial?

People down vote just because they disagree. The voting system should generally only exist to down vote comments that are hurtful or irrelevant, not to show you disagree with something. And it's easier to just push the down vote button instead of communicating with those you don't agree with.

Which idols do you all think are for sure LGBTQ+?

Like ones that are universally agreed on being LGBTQ+ in this thread.

Jo Kwon, Heechul and Sehun

I'd say Ren from Nu'est but for some reason people don't often include him, but for me he is clearly LGBT. And I say this as a Lady Gaga enjoying homo myself.

I appreciate when idols go to europe/america because it’s safe for them to hold up pride flags and show support whereas in korea obviously they can’t. And they definitely know what rainbow flags mean, it irritates me when people think they’re stupid and uninformed and don’t know what it means just because they’re from Korea.

I mean let's be real, they really don't have any choice but to embrace the flag that's thrown there. If they didn't, the '' homophobia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 '' accusations would run fast and hard, I'd assume. But eh, if the idol industry realizes that being supportive of LGBT is good for the image and potentially even lucrative (in the west), all the better I guess. Though how GENUINE that support is, that is debatable. In the end, these are idols whose job is to do fanservice, even fanservice like holding a rainbow flag in the west.

I'm not saying these dudes can't be legit supportive but they really didn't have any kind of choice in the matter, though I'm not sure how many rainbow flags that are thrown on stage that have been ignored have caused a controversy. All I'm saying is that call me when these idols take their OWN flags into concerts and are supportive on their own accord.

It hasn't caused controversy in the past to ignore them.

I can't speak for other groups cause I don't follow tour footages, but BTS pretty regularly has LGBT+ flags thrown on stage and they've never picked them up. It's never caused a never reaction or controversy

Ah, I see. Though comparing other groups who perform at smaller venues to BTS may be a bit unfair, BTS being just that huge that they can get away with shit (I mean, Jimin not being cancelled for the atomic bomb shirt, nah, he is still a woke king or whatever).

The eternal skeptic and pessimist in me is kinda thinking that holding pride flags is basically necessary for smaller groups in order to get western fanbase attention, in general being woke and stuff, but when you make it big you don't hafta do that anymore to that extent. Basically how smaller groups usually wear more provocative clothing and indulge in gay fanservice, same could be applied to appealing to western values more prominently when performing there.

But, this all could still be a positive thing and I'm sure some idols feel a lot more free performing outside of Asia.

Personally I think BTS gets a pass not because they're huge, but instead because they're already vocal about their support outside the stage. Other than that, I kinda understand your point

Also, pretty off topic, but there is no "nazi gear" controversy related to Jimin. :wut:

I don't really know, their alleged support seems all whatever to me after they performed in a country that beheads gay people but you know, what do I know. Sure they were probably forced but... meh. I don't fuck with that at all regardless.

Oh, right, that was RM, no?

3) Are you suggesting groups do more "gay fanservice" in the west or for the west? Cause I would disagree and say the West is way more quick for calling that out as queer baiting than Korean fans.

I mean lesser known groups doing more '' gay fanservice '' in Korea to get noticed, but in the west being supportive of LGBT, by holding a flag or whatever. It's all marketing in an extremely competitive environment. Fanservice comes in many colors, holding a rainbow flag for a while is just part of it, and might not have a deeper meaning other than blatant fanservice. It's essentially no different than two dudes awkwardly kissing or grinding each other on some broadcast or a concert to get noticed by female fans.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this.

I don't find scripted, planned fan service the same thing as picking up a LGBT flag that was thrown on stage by a fan. I feel like if it was purely for marketing reasons there would be a far more scripted element to it. Ultimately we're just speculating on their motive for doing so with no definitive answer.

I mean how much of a script do you need? A manager or someone from the staff can tell them '' okay, this crowd will react positively to this kind of fanservice, so if u find rainbow flags on stage, use them respectfully as props, and if u find people waving rainbow flags, throw some hearts at them okay? that'll boost the good image of this group!! '' Isn't that as much of a script as anything?

BUT, regardless, even if it's all marketing, I think we'd rather be in a situation where LGBT support is marketable rather than not. And it might inspire people to look deeper into LGBT issues and their own self as well. So while marketing sounds pretty crass and dishonest, it could still lead to something good. But it's good to acknowledge that not everything is genuine support and there are ulterior motives.

But you're right in that we are just speculating, but I think it's good to bring these things up and in general talk about the nature of the industry and how it's essentially about making money, and fanservice is used to make that money.

Not really relevant to the thread but regardless

Japan is ending 2019 and starting 2020 with a BANG. These are some of the most RELEVANT, SUCCESSFUL Japanese artists waving the pride flag. And the performance, well, come on now.

Well that's some surprising news.

If this is what Heechul wants, then so be it. Bisexual, gay, whatever, I don't really think it matters anymore. I'm sure the '' hehe maybe I like guys who knows '' shtick is going to be dead and ditched for real this time and it ain't coming back.

I am literally a gay guy lmfao, not everyone who laughs at you guys is a homophobic straightie.

Also it's a little ironic that you say people are dying so we should focus on lore important things while simultaneously writing essays on why someone is gay lol. Also my life is full enough that I'm a gay guy who can stan male idols without worrying about whether or not they're gay so i can relate to them cause i have more things about me than my sexuality, sad not everyone has that.

Oh here comes the '' I'm one of the good gays, you people are bad gays '' comments. If you are so comfortable with yourself, maybe use it for good instead of being a dick.

If it was a beard situation, I honestly think they would just fake a relationship with a '' non-celebrity woman '' but this seems pretty high profile all things considered. Unless it's a double beard situation. Though then again Heechul's intentions of wanting to get married and potentially have children (iirc?), wouldn't Momo's career kinda get a hit if that were to happen soonish, like in a year or two? A confusing mess.

We'll see if this lasts past few months.

Personally I'm pretty interested in seeing how Heechul deals with his persona, he kinda has to ditch his '' I'm gay '' jokes and I wonder if he'll even address them, or if anyone else does.

no, why?

Because it's a shitty word that infantilizes grown men. This is not a freaking yaoi, people don't go in a '' gay panic XDDDDDD '' in real life.

And overall the word has very negative connotations for LGBT.

I don't think people should succumb to pessimism, since there has been A LOT of change the past 10 years. No, it has not ended up in an idol coming out (yet), but to be blind to all the other progress that's been made is unwise and not fruitful.

Youtube and streaming services are LOUSY with South Korean LGBT people and couples, and that was not the case 2-3 years ago. It only needed one or two trailblazers and now youtube is full of SK LGBT content creators. I follow at least 4-5 gay men/couples currently. Then we have out gay men like Holland and MRSHLL, we have music videos that have gay themes or include LGBT people (made by artists, not idols, in all fairness). We've had a South Korean eSports player come out as bi. And then we have idols being openly supportive of LGBT and even being a fan of LGBT artists or LGBT themed entertainment.

A LOT has happened, even if no one has come out.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I don't think dudes touching each other or dudes checking each other out are a sign of anything necessarily (especially in the context of idols doing fanservice), but it kind of seems like you are comparing whatever progress is happening in your own country to what is happening in South Korea which is dumb. Unless you live in SK? Progress isn't universal nevertheless.

mans could've just pointed lmao, but why did he do that motion to express the word "anus" lmao i feel that theres a lot to unpack here

For context: they were playing a game trying to come up with words that start with certain letters, it was hobi's turn and jungkook was trying to give him a hint for the word anus lol

There's nothing else to unpack here except he wanted to be funny and a lot of guys find inserting things inside their anal super funny because it's painful and gay.
