Taeyong is on my list of idols I don't understand how so many people see as straight tbh lol I didn't think much about him at first but after watching their NCT life series I'm like 100% sure he ain't straight. I got suspicious about Haechan after their first Vlive, he keept on looking at Mark, and he's surprisingly clingy with him. Gotta observe more. 

I find the line between seeming "boyish" and seeming "gay" pretty fine sometimes, so I don't even try and speculate about kids as young as 14. I will say, though, that my sense of my own gayness showed up at about 13 or 14, so it is certainly not out of the realm of possibility that one or more of the NCT Dream kids is gay and perfectly aware of that fact about themselves.

 

All I know is that I won't be looking close enough to find out, because I am definitely way too old for that. Luckily the song didn't appeal to me at all, so I don't have to bother with it at all.

 

Yeah at 16 generally you already started figuring out if you're not 100% straight, especially because it's not like they don't have examples to look up to.

yeah, I didn't mention it but there's definitely that aspect of the issue to consider as well. It's not very healthy or constructive to put people into categories (whether straight or gay) before they've even reached adulthood.

 

I imagine if I were a celebrity at that age I wouldn't have appreciated people discussing my sexuality and trying to analyze my behaviour - it would have made me even more self-conscious at an age where I was already self-conscious due to existing social pressures. 

 

I can see your point, it's just that I don't know how much social stigma influence there is on that, because honestly I've never seen anyone being uncomfortable with a 16 years old boy (or even younger) showing interest in girls, but when it's towards another boy all our alarms are on fire.

Well since I was one of the weird kids that know from the start that aren't straight, I don't find it SO weird to speculate about younger idols's sexuality... I knew I wasn't straight from... forever lol i never even thought about it I just knew, and I found out about the term bisexuality at 11, so... Some of the NCT boys could know perfectly well where they fall on the kinsey scale imo Also, some of them aren't even THAT young imo? Like most of them are either 16 or 17, the 14-15 yeah they are pretty youn but still... young young imo would be around 10 lol And as I said before, even if Jisung is the youngest he really caught my attention and I feel like he will give us really interesting stuff to analyze xD But yeah since he's so young it might take some more time to notice anything suspicious

 

Yes, they could be very well aware, plus what I don't like about the whole "they're too young to know/show/speculate" it's that none ever said anything when the Yeri/Jaehyun ship started sailing due to a couple of stares, and Yeri was 16 last year. 

Nor anyone thinks it's weird to ship the minis with SM rookies girls (which are even younger than NCT dream).

But when the boyxboy thing starts happening everyone starts worrying "they are too young" "we may force them a sexuality" "it is weird" "they might just be confused". 

 

I mean, it's either wrong or fine in both cases, if LGBT people ourselves start treating homosexuality as something "strange" compared to heterosexuality that is "normal" at a young age, we're screwed. 

If we go by the reasoning "observing a minor's behavior is weird" I can accept that, but then it must be applied in both cases. 

While I'm pretty sure that as soon they'll interact with female idols of their age everyone will be like "puppy love, so cute  " and no one will give a damn on how that's taking for granted a minor's sexuality/love interest.

 

 

Having said that, I'd honestly prefer them not to be involved in any major ship because crazy shippers can turn things into weird situations (photoshops/banners ecc).

- being a touchy culture 

 

- not being gay 

 

 

 

Furthermore, some part of body language communication is the same amongst different cultures&ethnicities because it's not strictly related to the cultural factor. It's not like it's different in Korea or somewhere else in the world. 

 

E.g: leaning continuously against each other without even noticing, or staring at other's people lips while talking, or scanning erotic body parts of the other person mean exactly the same thing all over the world. 

 

Plus, honestly, I'm not so sure about the whole "Koreans are touchy" thing, because I've heard more than one Korean debunking that because yes, they are touchy, but not to that extent. 

 

And it's not like I don't come from a touchy culture, Italian girls have shower together, may hold hands together as friends (especially at young age), grind on each other while dancing at parties and kiss to say hello. 

 

Does this mean that an Italian girl that act like that cannot be considered lesbian/bi because of the cultural factor? Hell no. 

You'd actually be surprised by the amount of lesbian/bi girls among the open minded environments, they outnumber the straight ones.

In open minded environments of course, because in conservative environments everyone is straight and girls are just being friendly together.

Dont you ever get tired of  "all idols are straight until proven otherwise" and "it is rude to speculate about someones sexuality" mentality? I know i am. I am aware that all this have been said many times but every time i see this bullshit it just throws me off.

 

All those straight girls are being totally inappropriate lusting after idols leaving nasty comments everywhere. Or crazy shippers who even send messages to idols themselves. Ahh, Taeyong's interactions with Ten are awkward, imo. Not from Ten's side but from Taeyong's, he almost seems indifferent towards him or disinterested (not meant so literally) just like Ten isn't his type (not in that way, it's hard to explain.) But obviously Taeyong isn't going to be mean to him and push him away, I don't know, I just find it awkward. Ten is cute always but I definitely was low key cringing during the video because Taeyong looked slightly uncomfortable so I felt uncomfortable and it just...ahhh, yeah. 

But ooOh man, Taeyong and Yuta are my fave. Taeyong gets all cute and clingy and I liiiiiive.

Considering him and Ten seem to have really different personalities, it would make sense that in such a big group they aren't the closest of friends _{(not implying that they don't get along, but)} hence the awkwardness on Taeyong's side. 

Ten is a social butterfly so he manages to have skinship with everyone lmao. 

But Taeyong, he's been Yuta's roommate for quite a long time and he's obviously very close with Jaehyun, and there we see how much of a clingy sweetpie he can be   he's actually much more touchy than Yuta would be on his own, plus I've noticed more than a couple of times where he just reaches to caress Jaehyun's face and he stops before doing that (the second Fire Truck promotions V live, for example.) 

 

 

Regarding  Jaehyun, remember when I said that he could be straight and just really touchy? Scratch that, I encountered few 2015 Dojae material and I completely changed my mind    Apart from the birthday card/moments on stage that could be somehow scripted to create the ship, his stares towards Doyoung were not really the best friend type.

I sorta wish Ten and Johnny were the ones to pick the draw instead of Ten and Taeyong lol. 

 

I think maybe communication also played a role into it. Ten is probably closer to Johnny than the others since they're able to converse well since they have English in common and Johnny seems to be the open-minded type. It probably took longer for Ten and Taeyong to build a relationship, but it's gotten better since. For Taeyong, his closest companion in NCT is probably Jaehyun since they've been training together the longest. He seems really too nonchalant about publicly declaring things like "Jaehyun's body is sexy" or spanking him right in front of the camera (or even while holding the camera himself) so I'm beginning to think those interactions as not being as indicative since it probably doesn't register in his head that it could be construed that way.

That's a reason why JaeYong (and YuTae) is such a popular ship; they're very visible and forthright with their skinship. His cousin and Taeil said he's the very timid type. So with the person he likes he'd probably keep it lowkey.  But with people he has no romantic interest in, he'd have no qualms about skinship or fanservice. There's a photo somewhere of him putting his arms over some random chick to take a selfie together. And he gives intense gazes/eye contacts to the fans at fansigns and even gets smooth with them sometimes.

Hmmm this makes his awkward relationship with Ten more suspect LOL. 

So I want to see more of his interactions with other people instead to make a gauge. At the moment, I think he doesn't really care for romantic relationships. He's preoccupied with work, debuts, and his image. He's also not the visibly thirsty type. Makes it a bit more difficult to tell. Similar thing going on with Mark who said he doesn't think about relationships at all. Since he's preoccupied being busy as hell with 3 debuts. JFC. So far I think it's possible TY's queer though.

 

Jaehyun is really confident. With Doyoung, Jaehyun just flat out said he was Doyoung's boyfriend in front of everyone at the smrookies show after Taeil accused them of being gay. Doyoung was the flustered one heh. Do you have the material with the Jaehyun x Doyoung stares? My inclination is that Jaehyun is straight. Also cause of his brodude ass comment about how it's ~weird~ for guys to sleep under a single blanket (rme). I think Doyoung could swing straight or bi. And honestly, I don't know why Jaehyun gets the rap for being dirty-minded. Doyoung is the one that brings up stuff about raunchy stuff all the time, not Jaehyun. Honestly, Jaehyun pings me as mostly into girls, but it can very well happen that he finds some guys attractive and gives them that look. 

But if he is on the spectrum, I have a feeling he is much closer to the straight end. That wouldn't affect his confidence too much, since NCT looks quite of an open environment anyway.

Yeah, I'm trying to be more "skeptical" about pinging because just going by my previous criteria I realized that 2/3 of NCT could be gay LMAO.

So I realized my "gaydar" needed some re-calibrating because statistically that's just improbable. Especially since a lot of the kids were street cast too so it's not like musical theatre class where there's a self-selecting bias because gay people tend to gravitate towards theatre. 

 

I'm going into TY a lot sorry, since he's the member I know most about/follow closely. 

With TY it's always gonna be difficult to tell because even if he were into girls he can't allow himself to show any legit visible interest because he's already on precarious terms with his reputation. People even managed to pull a lovestagram between him and Yeri somehow even though they've had next to no interactions.

 

Yeah, in the video during the part where they said he had to do a loveshot pose with Ten he looked visibly horrified for a second before he got over it. And he sorta little-sister-zoned Ten (still rme at the comment. No wonder Ten was like "what???" but he's too much of a sweetheart/easygoing so he went along with it). So I don't think he's into Ten that way tbh.

 

Because it's his personality and he's the leader, it's his job to take care of everyone and act lovingly/sentimentally/caring towards the members but I feel like that can be misconstrued as attraction. For example with Taeil, I'm quite positive they don't have a romantic dynamic in the least, but Taeyong has no qualms about saying Taeil is handsome (and vice versa with TL saying TY's handsome) and that he wants to take care of him.

He's in a lot of prominent ships because he has a lot of similar dynamics with the other members. I think that's just his personality. He does these type of loving gestures and expressions to Mark as well. I can't really just use his gazes too much because judging from the fansign fancams and fanaccounts that'd make him in love with half of his fans since he gives such direct gazes and expressions to them as well. Dude needs to contain his eyes and eyebrows, seriously. TBH I need something more substantial than only stares to go on because a lot of that could be easily read too far into and feed into confirmation bias. Because that's sort of what happens with the farfetched ships people make. "So and so are dating because they looked at each other!"  With Ten it's a culmination of several different things that makes him ping strongly to me, not only by how he looks at someone for a second. i.e. his predebut photos, his past interviews, his words, his mannerisms. The little snippets of his reactions towards other members just build up a stronger case, not the case itself. 

 

I remember seeing Jaehyun being backhugged by a random member of another boygroup and he looked awkward/uncomfortable and made a comment about it being the first time being backhugged by a man so I think he's just one of those types that are just super comfortable and confident with skinship with people he's closer to. You see some of the intimate skinship he has with the other members too, not just Taeyong (e.g. JaeTen or uh Jaehyun x Dongsookie LMAO). I remember in that infamous moment of NCT Life with Ten's teachers Jaehyun was the one who asked her if Ten was popular with the girls. So I don't think it even registered to JH that non-heterosexuality was a possibility for him. And all the members went eehhhhhh?? in disbelief when she said Ten wasn't interested in girls. Not sure what that means. I wonder if he has to suppress himself among the members or if it means the members think it's somehow impossible for a teen boy not to be into girls.   So anyway I agree JH's on the straighter end of the scale.

I was about to speak about the Kinsey studies and recent back up to those studies, but you already discussed it with another person and everything was already said lmao. 

 

Actually, I don't believe that most of them are gay but actually a lot of them ping me as bisexuals (meaning somewhere between 1 and 5, not necessarily an exact 3). Honestly, it depends a lot on the openness of the environment a group of people lives in imo. The more open it is, the more people start questioning themselves and discover their non-straight part. 

In my group of friends I was the only bisexual over 5 people, then after I started telling them about my experience, we started talking about certain issues and discussing...it ended up with 2 of the girls being a couple now and the other one discovered that she's non straight as well. 

Korea itself is homophobic, but it's pretty much a fact that a lot of gay dating goes on behind the scenes in k pop, so it's not that they're not exposed to a certain environment.

So, I mean, if someone pings me I don't pay much mind to the statistical issue LOL. 

 

But in NCT, as for now, the only one that pings me as a flaming 6 on Kinsey scale is Ten, because the more I observe him around girls&boys, the more it gets confirmed. Plus his own statements/his teacher's...I honestly can't understand how some people see him as a womanizer    

Or make up very far fetched theories on his personality to justify his behavior towards women. 

 

 

For many others, I don't have enough material of them around girls, e.g. Hansol, so it's not that they can ping me as gay if I don't get the chance to observe them fully. Quickly debut Hansol for the sake of my heart and my gaydar   

 

Yes I can totally see your point with Taeyong, he expresses so much with his eyes that if he was attracted to everyone he stares intensely he'd be loving the entire world    It may not be incompatible with something else than straightness, but unfortunately we get to see only a very fearful and careful part of Taeyong. 

It is getting better, tho, I hope in the future he'll be more relaxed and observing him will be less enigmatic. 

I think he's grown up to be very sensible about different issues and really, really introspective, if he's anything other than straight I think we will get to notice when he'll be more confident in showing himself fully to the public.

Yes, he's not really comfortable with many non-straight things, but it could make very much sense according to what I just said. He's really, really insecure. That could be just another source of insecurity.

I wish I got to read more into Yuta, being him such a close friend to Taeyong (he said himself that he knows much more of Taeyong than anyone else), it would change things a bit.

But Yuta doesn't really ping me when far from Ten and Hansol, which is kinda strange. LMAO.

I didn't really register that "EEEEEEH?" after Ten's teacher said what he said as disbelief tbh, they actually smiled at him (Doyoung-especially- and Taeyong), it sounded more as a "EEEEEH we knew it but there's a camera that wasn't the answer we expected" thing. 

Ten was worried but I don't think it was for his band members (he even looked at Doyoung when he made that worried-as-fuck-face) but for the fact that it was said in front of a camera. I was surprised that it even got on the final cut, I mean the "he was interested in dancing only" excuse wasn't really credible. 

I just re-watched it to check and I noticed that after Jaehyun's question Ten turned to look at Johnny as if he needed help, poor baby. But unfortunately, questions like this will pop out every time during his career. 

 

Honestly, if they didn't know, Ten wouldn't have dared to write that bday message to Johnny knowing that it would end up on a big message board for anyone to see. 

Mark wasn't even slightly shocked by it lmao "oh is this an XXX AHAHAH?". 

Unfortunately, being out doesn't mean being totally safe from your friend's heteronormative talks, some may even find it funny to ask those questions even if they know perfectly, just to see how you react. 

Plus, NCT life isn't 100% improvised, they have clearly indications from the staff on what to say, it could've totally happened that they were told to ask certain questions "How did Ten do at school, was he popular with girls?" etc and they just didn't expect the teacher to be that savage honest.

 

Regarding Jaehyun, I've lost count of all non straight people that like pulling the no-homo thing, especially when they are in the half-denial phase. 

The "It's strange for two men to sleep on the same bed" doesn't really exempt him at all lol.

I know these comments aren't exact indicators, but whenever someone makes remarks like that it unpings them a bit for me. At least when it sounds like they mean it. I think the teachers coming was a surprise though looking at how they reacted when they came. I don't think it's as scripted as that since there are so have been so many awkward and boring moments (sorry boys) in NCT Life. I mean they could've cut that part with Ten out entirely but SM was like yeah dgaf. It's why I liked the dynamic of NCT so much because it seemed really genuine to me. Do you think the members know Ten's (possibly) gay? I'm sort of worried that he has to repress himself because it's no secret that Korea is still homophobic and that many of the members probably subscribe to that mindset, realistically speaking. Maybe that's why he gravitates towards Johnny since he seems pretty open-minded if not bi himself. At least open-minded enough to not care about whether another dude says he wants to have xxxx with him and call him a fatass LOL. Jaehyun always struck me as someone who's straight, but really confident. I know fangirls love to project their narrative of my oppar is so pure, so innocent onto their faves, but he came off as someone with a lot of experience with women under his belt. Maybe not necessarily relationships with them, but a lot of experience in knowing how to "deal" with them. I remember looking at some graduation footage of him and seeing so many flirty girls and he played it off sooo well. He's really smooth also judging from some of his fanaccounts. I mean he could still be bi, but he always struck me as the touchy confident straight-leaning dude who dgaf.

That's what I like about them as well they're very....genuine. 

 

I just hope you're not right about the guys not knowing about Ten being possibly gay, because that'd break my heart   . Honestly, when I found out NCT had a Japanese member that was on abnormal summit, I was kinda ready for gendernormativity to hit me in the face, Yuta was such a nice surprise. 

 

I....actually had my doubts on Yuta for a second, not really on his sexual orientation, but on his gender Identity. 

Not due to him being against gender roles, asking about transgender issues to the thai guy on AS, answering he'd like to be born again as a female...that's actually just a sign of him being not a douche open. 

But there's one vine I can't manage to find it I'm such a fail from the rookies show where they were trying to decide who had to go first to do something and Ten said to Yuta "Ladies first". 

Now, they may just be joking, but Ten is thai, from Bangkok, I'm pretty sure he knows misgendering is bad. 

Then Yuta answered "But I'm a man" and Ten made a "not this shit again" face. 

So, for just one moment I wondered, but it's too little to be a suggestion, let alone a proof.

Wow, I thought Italians including the men were touchy in general.

 

When TY's being attentive to someone it's sort of intense-ish? Because of the shape of his eyes and how he tends to give very direct gazes. and smokey eyeliner. He has to be careful with his eyeballs in case people misinterpret them lol. Now he's a lot more comfortable, but during NCT U days sometimes he looked like he wanted to shoot laser beams into someone (Ten and Taeil were sometimes at the receiving end lol) but he was just nervous. A reporter took a picture of him at the airport recently when he was tired and waiting around then the reporter titled it "the gaze of a scammer." He wasn't even doing anything. I can't imagine how worse he'd get treated if he were a female idol JFC. 

 

Even Winwin has been marrying fans. These boys need to catch a hint from Sehun.

Actually, I think Taeyong and Doyoung are both fine with skinship with Ten judging from other moments they've had. No one's really touchy or playful 100% of the time. Doyoung was in a bad mood and hangry in that video and Taeyong was nervous when he sat on Ten's hand. TY also has a case of resting b*sh face sometimes especially during NCT U when he was always nervous and uncomfortable all the time. 

 

 

I forgot about Primmy! They even had matching phone cases. They did come off as platonic besties to me. I don't know much about Sehun, but didn't he have someone like that from back in SOPA? I think she's in a girl group now. That came off similarly as platonic bestie type relationship too.

 

Hmm I think that's too small of an instance to say anything about Yuta's gender identity. Especially since Yuta goes around with his "sang namja"/real man shtick.

I don't think being from Thailand and/or gay precludes someone from misgendering/problematic. Ignorance of trans and gender issues is still rampant even among fellow LGBTQ members (minus the T). Imagine all the people who say "lol wow that's so gay" or "why do women always do that?" negatively even though they know homophobia and misogyny is frowned upon. I mean Ten had no problem jokingly calling Johnny a fatass...

Kun caught my attention the most because he looked very smart&attentive to me, like he knows perfectly what's going on even if he doesn't, but the way he reacted when Jaehyun tried to be touchy with him as expected from Jaehyun made me wonder. 

Plus, if we rely on the totally imprecise meter that "aura" is, I'd say Kun pings more. But again, I've seen too little from him.

hey! new member here! not really new tho cause i've been following this thread for a long time. i actually made an oh account because of this thread~ i never posted because of my limited english skills 

 

i read the first 200 pages, then i jumped to page 1700 and read everything till the latest update.

 

now, going on topic:

 

key, sungjong & ten are the ones that pings me the most! especially ten and his adorable mannerisms   well i think at least 98% of the thread agrees with me on this lmao

 

the ones that i mostly keep my eyes on besides ten in NCT are hansol and yuta. johnny seems mostly straight, but my johnten shipper self wishes he could be at least bi 

 

i LOVE when ten is mentioned just me being biased and i hope someone would write one of those long ass analysis about him like the ones i see from other idols here. unfortunately, there isnt much material to look into cause he's from a rookie group and such

Problems with Ten analyses is that everyone basically agrees on him and If I had to find evidences I'd write a long ass post with his whole life as a proof.

sorta unrelated, but have some of the shippers annoyed tf out of you? they're okay with painting their pairings in a homoerotic light but bring up the possibility of any of them being actually gay/queer and in a relationship together, even hypothetically, and they go full denial homophobic mode. WTF is that?? I guess it's some possessive delulu fangirlism, where it's okay to pair them together because it's "safer" than pairing them with a girl. Because to their homophobic asses, their 2 oppars in an actual romantic relationship with each other isn't something that's tangible to them, so they see it as "safe" and it's okay to fangirl over them touching each other or something to joke about.

Unfortunately, I came to the same conclusion that a worrying amount of shippers are actually homophobic and use ships to reassure themselves their oppars won't have any girls in their life.

It's a "The maximum love life I can accept from you in order not to feel betrayed is with another member of your group, but not for real" kind of reasoning. 

 

I've been in the Heechul fandom for years and being a Gunheechul shipper I realized that what mostly annoyed Hanchul shippers was not the fact that it was breaking their ship, but the fact that shipping Gunheechul actually implied Heechul is gay irl. 

So they totally erased that possibility. 

 

Which leaves me in complete disbelief.
