Taemin brought up his friend Kai during the show and said, “I was close to Kai since the time we were trainees. I feel really comfortable with him.â€

DJ Kim Chang Ryul asked, “Do you hang out with him alone?†and Taemin answered, “Yes, but I’m afraid it might cause misunderstandings. Even managers keep asking me if I’m dating him.â€

Kim Chang Ryul guessed, “Maybe it’s because Taemin has a pretty face,†and Taemin joked, “I should be careful.â€

Kim Chang Ryul then said, “There’s no need to be careful. Two guys can hang out alone. Koreans think it’s okay when girls walk around holding hands but why do they think it’s weird when guys do that.â€

Taemin explained, “It’s not like I hold hands with Kai or anything but we do put our arms around each other. We have this friend who is quite aggressive when it comes to skinship. So it affected to us too. I didn’t like it at first but now we naturally have skinship.â€

I really love how a) this kind of hints that Taemin's managers are ok with gay relationships (I think the fact that they acknowledge it as a possibility at all is kind of amazing) and kinda helps confirm that there's probably a lot more gay relationships in the industry than some people think and b) the radio host questions why it's ok for girls to walk around holding hands but not guys. O:

 

Although, I'm really not sure how I feel about TaeKai recently?? they're so couple-y, haha. along with this interview they also just did a little MNet special where they asked them about their Dispatch pictures and joked about them dating again, and I really can't decide if they're just friends who think the whole thing is funny and keep joking about it, or if they're actually dating and are joking about it because no one will ever think they are dating, lmao

I think that 2NE1's Crush or CL in Dirty Vibe are the same idea, why would you even mention it if you didn't want to make some sort of statement? I also don't get the feeling that CL is particularly straight though, either, lmao.

 

also if he is bi, there's a possibility that he could have already told his parents, or they will just ignore it like the rest of the general public is likely to do when they hear this song, haha. (honestly, as a parent I think I would be more concerned about him bragging about his sex abilities  )

Sorry for just butting in lol. But what happened was during EXO's First Box when the question was "Which member would Sehun introduce his sister to?" Tao chose himself and Baekhyun responded with "Tao's not even on the list!" Afterwards Chen signaled him to be quiet for some reason. I think he might have done that because Baekhyun's comment was a bit suggestive of Tao's sexuality, or at least that's the only reason I can think of.

that same question game is where he was making fun of Taohun for hanging out so much together, too. at 17:45 his question was "Who hangs out together the most?" and he chose the two of them. and while Tao and Sehun's tsundere "I don't like it/I like it~" exchange was cute, they look a little awkward at getting called out at the end of it to me tbh... 

 

(although watching it again, Baek was pretty much being a dick to everyone in that game lmao)

I wasn't into kpop back when all of this went down so I don't have much of a concrete opinion on JongKey, but I personally get a bit more of a vibe that Key was majorly into Jjong instead of them actually dating??? I don't know what else would have caused Key's reaction, because if they were dating and the girl Jjong was reportedly with was a beard, Key would know it was fake?? either that or they were forced to break up/Key was hella pissed at Jjong for going along with the whole dating scandal thing. hmmm

 

edit: hmmm actually that last option makes a lot of sense....it also makes Key's comment about Jjong having "freedom of choice" in that video we talked about ages ago super shady, lmao.

They seemed like they had something going on for a while, but I don't think it was particularly serious, and I think Key was probably much more into Jjong than the other way around. He certainly seemed to take the dating scandal hard anyway.

 

The company can't technically force them to separate or participate in a gay-rumor-dispelling dating scandal, but they could certainly make it very enticing to do so. The first thing they would likely do is offer a deal, and if both refused they'd next offer a threat next. The deal would most likely offer some kind of reward relative the the amount of risk and/or sacrifice associated with the scandal. Anything from a private room in the dorms, to more lines in songs, to more face time in videos, more speaking time in interviews, or even a solo project if you're lucky (that's not to say all solo projects are a result of these kinds of shady deals, just some of them). The threat could range from having their living arrangements downgraded, to being stuck in the dungeon for a period of time, to at worst having their career seriously damaged or even ruined by releasing major dirt on the artist to the press. Now, Jonghyun is really into his career. Even though he's a good person at heart, I could easily see him taking the deal, especially when he was younger. This would've probably been really insulting and hurtful to Key on a personal level.

 

 

Of course this specific scenario is just speculation, but these kinds of deals aren't uncommon, and many companies aren't against blackmailing their artists if need be either. It's one of the unfortunate truths of the industry, no matter where you go.

 

I agree! like I said I think that situation really makes the most sense to me~ honestly I don't even know if most artists would even need an actual incentive to make themselves seem straighter just knowing what would happen to them and their careers if they were outed. :/ So I can't say I'd blame Jjong or Key for how they might have felt in that situation, the whole thing just kind of sucks. Key really did seem to have taken it hard though :(

You could assume it was fan service, but Key would not act the way he did, if it was.  Key looks as though he was punched in the belly and the air is out of his sails.  So you know Key was 'in love',  impossible to tell how Jong felt except he obviously had fun flirting with Key.   To look at it from Key's angle,  he was very brave in being himself, 'gay' with Jong and probably came out to Jong.   I don't think Jong is stupid enough to not figure it out, so I'm sure there was a discussion.   Plus Key seemed to bring out the 'gay' in Jong.   As their relationship was heading toward Yunjae status,  it seems reasonable that SM put an end to it.    As HanryuFan said,  they probably got an ultimatum.   From Key's face, I'm almost wondering if he was blindsided with all this.   I'm very surprised the group survived this time.  I remember the video from the 2010 MAMA awards?  Am I right?  Key was dressed in this white Rhinestone dress and looked like he was on something or drinking and depressed.  He acted very weird.  

It does seem as though they can now act as friends and work together.   I would love to jump 30 years in the future and hear what Onew and Minho will say about this love affair scenario.

Also yeah, I agree that they're much better now and still friends and everything, I think they both have probably grown up a lot since then. although the freedom of choice comment still seems like Key was throwing shade lol

 

oh, also, out of curiosity: how long do you guys think the two of them might have been together if they were? I'm wondering why SM might have thought it was so serious/obvious that they had to step in in some way...?

As much as I'd like Key to be the first, I'm also pretty sure that it'll be Heechul. He and Gunhee have been together for quite a long time already and the relationship seems to be serious, plus most of the I-fans are already like 'hurr durr guise, we know exactly what you two are doing'. I mean, it's not like Heechul is strapped for cash or anything and tbh SuJu are at the end of their careers as idols now, so the timing is pretty good for him.

 

Key also probably wouldn't want to risk Shinee's success, given that Taemin just released a solo album and Shinee probably have a comeback scheduled for earlyish next year. He's also a 91 line, so he's actually about the same age as the EXO members.

 

Key also hasn't gone into the military yet, which gives Heechul another advantage. I really do think he will, hopefully, come out soon. He's been just barely crossing the line for too long now, he really needs to step it up and just do it lmao

 

(also I keep forgetting how young SHINee is, they've been around for so long but they're still around the same age as EXO, sheesh.)

I often think that if I was gay I wouldn't be shy around boys like I would have no problem approaching them because I wouldn't be sexually attracted to them anyway? That is the reason why J-Hope and V are suspicious.. especially J-Hope had no problems shooting the MV with the girls, it seemed easy for him to sit close to them, put his arm around them, look directly in their eyes etc etc ... Meanwhile the others were extremely shy, especially Suga. They couldn't even look into their eyes for one second

I know some people are just naturally more confident than others....but..

 

I think it honestly just depends on the person! I'm a lesbian but I think I tend to be more comfortable around girls than guys?? in most cases at least. It probably is a lot more common to be closer to the gender you aren't attracted to, though.

 

although now that I'm thinking about it though one of my best friends in high school was a guy....and when we got into college we both kind of figured out we were gay.

I'm honestly pretty upset at how Chen responded... like was that really necessary? What was with the "you went too much!" ... How was that "too much" Jongdae?     I really hate how Suho was just trying to be progressive with his mindset but he ended up having to feel embarrassed about it because nobody supported his answer. No one's ever going to try being open to gay issues if people are just going to be ridiculed every time they bring it up.

either way I agree that it wasn't a conscious homophobic thing on anyone's parts, and yeah, they pretty much always have to seem conservative on screen, especially considering they are still technically a new group and they're also the trend rn. Personally, I really do think EXO is cool with homosexuality in general, especially considering that I'm quite certain at least a few of them aren't straight, and I don't doubt at least some of them are out to the rest of the group.

 

every other western-born kpop idol seems to just ignore the implications behind all of the skinship/homoeroticism,

Google is telling me he went to American International School in Hong Kong, so yes. I always assumed he did tbh, especially because his English is way past fluent, he really does speak like an American. Although from what I understand Hong Kong is more westernized comparatively due to their history, haha. 

 

but while I don't know this for sure, I'm curious if a part of his attitude towards skinship/shipping/ect might come from him being a /kpop fan/ before getting into the industry, lmao. especially with his english skills, he would be very aware of what people like, especially the international fandom, which is probably why he doesn't hesitate to talk about ships and amp up the skinship. idk, I just find it interesting that a number of english-speaking kpop idols are at least somewhat like he is, and I think it probably comes from being exposed to the fandom beforehand. (Amber especially comes to mind and her teasing fans with ships on instagram, and she was most definitely a SNSD fangirl before debut, possibly even a bit of a shipper lmao) 

 

i know there's been a lot of tao in this thread lately but he is just a gift that keeps on giving.

 

i'm a lesbian and i feel much much more comfortable around women than i do around men and all of my female-preferring friends feel the same way. gay people aren't a hivemind so these things obviously vary from person to person but saying we would feel more comfortable with the gender we're not attracted to is not always accurate. even though we might be attracted to a certain gender, it doesn't mean we're attracted to every single person of that gender.

Edit: All of this discussion on who you personally prefer to hang around with is incredibly interesting too...it seems that actually, most people seem to want to hang around with their preferred gender, which makes sense.

On the September 11th episode of MBC's 'Stargazing', MBLAQ's Mir revealed that he and his sister were such big g.o.d fans that he thought about marrying one of the members.

possibly G-Dragon, but sometimes I lean towards thinking he is actually gay rather than bisexual. 

 

 

I have seen some people suggesting Tao as bi before. I definitely think he is attracted to men. I've also heard rumors that he had  a girlfriend pre debut (around 16 or 17) that he seemed pretty upset about breaking up with, but who knows. 

 

Jackson yes. I've thought that since like day one actually! And he's helped it a bit along the way   

 

 

 

 

 Baekhyun is a bit confusing. I also think he sometimes seems attracted to other members (mostly tall members like Chanyeol and Kris?), but for some reason I never feel very certain with him as he does strike me as a very affectionate person in general. 

 

Xiumin I mostly think is bisexual because of the way he answers certain questions. Like that one interview with Men's Style where he said  "No matter guy or lady, I respect the charms that are prominent on the surface. It's just a matter of who attracts me more." and the way he frequently mentions liking "pretty people"  He also often answers ideal type questions in a more broad and vague way than the other members (though I don't think that necessarily proves anything as those are often scripted).

 

He reminds me of Junsu from DBSK/JYJ sometimes too. Like he's quite shy a lot of the time and has that "cute" image, but he can also be reallllllly sexual. I don't know I see similarities between them sometimes, and I also think Junsu is bisexual. His interactions with Luhan are a bit questionable sometimes too, and actually even other male idols. He seems very aware of the people around him and his effect on them.  I don't really know but he just gives off that sort of vibe to me.  He also has lots of fanboys!

 

 

 

 

your list is pretty much exactly the same as mine  and I agree 100% about Xiumin that's exactly what I've always thought about him as well!! 

 

Also, what do y'all think about that HK tabloid reporting on TaoHun? I mean obviously it's shitty that they followed them, and the whole thing is very trashy reporting, but do you think people will actually start to pick up on the fact that they act so couple-y now that someone has pointed it out to them....? or will this whole thing blow over because it's just a gossip magazine? 

 

(personally, I think it probably will just be ignored, but I am just worried about my baby as per usual. if this actually did blow up I can't imagine the shit it will start. >.>)
