Which male idols do you think are gay?

I mean that’s true, gay men like all men can definitely be misogynistic. I was just bringing up the fact that the screenshots about Park Hanbin were fake. They originated from an account that has admitted to spreading false rumours about another idol, they used two “unreleased” pictures as proof of it being his account but people found them posted on his aunt’s social media, and the Facebook layout was completely different in 2016 than the screenshots which were in today’s layout. It’s pretty obviously a set up, so it just sucks to see his name come up in this context and people don’t bother to double check the facts after the initial blowup of rumours.

You're good! It was just something I'd been wanting to say for awhile

Didn't Ten follow her on his personal? I bet he's jealous lol.

I have a feeling that eventually some kpop bg is going to get drag makeovers for YT content either from Kimchi, Plastique, Rock.M, or the Neon Milk girls

Idk if this clip has already been discussed here but I wanted to bring it up just in case.

://youtu.be/GzGiUWimEqc

@ 12:32-12:53 Lee Know explains that he would wait for his best friend untill it got dark, and the interviewer asked him if he had a crush on "her". And Lee Know says that it's a him and that theres "no romance in his life".

So I'm wondering if he said that because hes actually LGBT and then said "theres no romance in my life" to cover it up. Or if hes actually straight and genuinely doesn't see men in a romantic sense, so the idea of him being romantically involved with another guy was off the table.

Thats not to say that if he was LGBT that he would automatically have a crush on a male friend (obviously), it's rather the way he phrased it that made me think it was weird. But then again it could be the further. Because, it's not like he can outright say he had/has a crush on a guy.

Overall Lee Know has allways been a curious case for me, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was anything. Although I think him being lgbt is slightly more likely that him being Straight.

I think so but I could be misremembering, if he is dating and/or besties with Kevin now he'll definitely end up knowing some lol.  Yeah Solar and Jokwon both got makeup done by Nana so it's definitely possible.

Everything he said about Jiwoong was so sweet 🥺 Under spoiler

Spoiler

Who came up with the idea of casting actor and singer Kim Jiwoong in the music video? Why did you pick him?

Holland: The people in the music video are all close friends of mine. In fact, the music video schedule changed a lot, and there were a lot of issues before filming, but once the final date was fixed, there was no time until the day of filming.

So, I cast Jiwoong, who I thought could play the role the best. I didn't consider any other options. We had worked together on a drama not too long ago, so we'd been in frequent contact since then.

What was your experience like working with Kim Jiwoong on this music video? What did you think about Kim Jiwoong’s acting?

Holland: The filming was delayed a lot, so I made Jiwoong wait for about an hour. I felt so bad that I decided to treat him to an expensive meal. Also, all the crew complimented him on how handsome he was.

Jiwoong is younger than me, but he has more experience than me. So, he has better aspects than me in many ways. He is also naturally good-looking. Even when we were acting together, he was gentle. I thought he would be popular in the future, and I'm so glad that he got such a good opportunity and became famous.

Are you supporting him for his debut on Boys Planet?

Holland: I actually haven't watched Boys Planet yet. I think the format of the program is too cruel. It's hard to watch so many young kids survive to pursue their dreams. I know how desperate they are.

Still, I have to watch Jiwoong, so I always watch the clips. I thought he did so well, and I'm so relieved that he finally made his final debut. I was nervous and always checked the rankings. The numbers... are so tiring.

They seem like good friends, Holland asked to vote for Jiwoong several times during the show, when it was 1-pick he posted about it again on all of his social media which was just such a nice gesture. He seems very supportive of Jiwoong which is nice v-v Idk, it's just reassuring that Holland only has good things to say about Jiwoong and supports him

I was so excited to see Holland and Jiwoong on my twitter tl that I didn't think to look for the article that this quote came from, so many thanks!

I agree, their friendship is so sweet🥰, I kinda just assumed they were fast friends that met on set but it sounds like they are actually really close which is nice to hear.

This video went viral with international fans and K-fans, but there seems to be this general consensus that Sung Han Bin is some kind of “straight for pay/het for check” with his idol image. We haven’t really seen him express himself like this on the show, but from past videos and what people who know him personally have said about him, I’d say his personality is generally still the same? He always seemed to be a kind, humble, and hardworking person, so I guess the only thing we don’t see nowadays is his flamboyant self-expression through dance? The dance groups he was a part of and associated with seemed to be queer subcircles, so it’s funny he’s being pushed with the “ideal perfect idol” image nowadays…

Also, don’t know how accurate this is, but these are reportedly the most popular gay idol ships in South Korea. Did Semantic Error really have that much of an impact in Korean pop culture? I remember reading somewhere that it was one of the most talked about Korean dramas in 2022(which is pretty impressive for a low-budget web drama), and that it helped popularize the BL genre in Korea overall. Seungseok is a surprise since they haven’t really interacted since X1’s disbandment and Nomin is not too surprising, considering NCT and those individual members’ popularity. The Haobin ship was definitely pushed by Mnet, and even their individual solo fandoms mostly get along, while their dual fandom is just as big and strong, so I wouldn’t really worry about fanwars in the future. It will be interesting to see if they are still pushed as a pair in future ZB1 activities. 🤔

My own anecdotal experience but there were a few Semantic Error and Seoham themed cafe's in Seoul last year that were packed with people and it genuinely surprised me at the time.

He probably is hiding some parts of himself and filtering (like every almost every idol does tbh but obviously it’s different through a queer lens) and he’s  switched dancing styles in the last couple of years but his personality seems pretty consistent with past stories and clips of him when he’s not dancing. I just have a problem with people thinking too deep into this bc it’s never going to be a genuine discussion on code switching or whatever and instead just ammo for antis to mock him with. Also, for fans who are waiting for him to “Mother” out, I feel they should stop holding their breath. There are already male idols in K-pop who are flamboyant and will give you all that and more. Why wait for someone who might never showcase that again?

Recently, there’s just been so much weird dialogue about Hanbin, Hao and Jiwoong in the fandom. Both from people who are expecting them to represent in ways that they never expressed themselves that they want to, to people who literally want to scrub anything queer from their image and to basically “forget” about those parts of their past (a lot of homophobia coming to play).

Semantic Error was an actual hit yeah. It boosted both the actors careers a lot (like I see Jaechan’s names in Korean general public forums that have nothing to do with BLs so he’s become quite well known). Before it, K-BLs were considered quite niche but now, it’s grown so much that the actors are able to become actually famous based on it. There are some videos online of fans crowding around the stars of the Dating Sim which has been pretty popular lately too and they get recognized in public and treated like celebrities. Other than BLs, Korean entertainment has in general been opening up more to queer narratives in recent years which is great to see.

I hate to say it but I was one of those BP fans that made assumptions about Hanbin's personality from watching a few of his prededut dance videos.  Now, I know I was wrong and that he wasn't code switching for the show but for the dance performances.

To anyone who happens to know:

What is a gay ship, is it a new term for actors starring in KBL's?  It's the first time I'm hearing that term?

No it's not exclusively used for KBL's. A ship is a term that is used to describe when someone likes the idea of two people being in a relationship. So a gay ship is basically that except, well, gay lol. It's a term that is used quite frequently at least in the west.

Some on twitter and kfans thinking Hanbin is straight is just delusional. Hanbin specialized in tutting and wacking and it's heavily connected to LGBTQ+ pop culture, he danced to "Call me mother" by Rupaul, he slapped a girl friend buttcheek in one vid. Do people think girls would let their straight male friends do that? Most girls only let their boyfriends or their close gay friends do that. "Hao hyung and I have a lot of similarity" and then Hao looking at the camera and smiled. Does it ever cross people mind the reason he's so close to a foreigner is because they are mirroring each other like what Hanbin said? We know Zhang Hao likes men, so do people understand what Hanbin mean by mirroring each other? Their inner core is similar so they understand that struggle.

During the show many people on reddit and twitter are doing mental gymnastics and all I can feel is just homophobia. I get that stereotypes about gay men are harmful, many people don't want their favs to have gay rumor because of homophobic surroundings but there are people in denial about his interaction with people, who he opens up to and these things are not stereotypes. They automatically assume people are straight, straight or "normal" is the norm, but when there are suggestion that one might not be straight, they throw in "Don't assume people sexuality".

So true. A while ago I came across an insta post about a male idol and someone in the comment section said "I cant wait to see what his future wife is like." And I replied "*partner/spouse*" and they acted like I was crazy for saying something as simple as that, and then proceeded to say that I was the one assuming their sexuality, when in reality it was the opposite.

Straight Kpop fans dont actually care about "assuming sexualities" because if they did they wouldn't assume they're straight and make comments like that. They just dont like the idea of their perfect male idol being anything other than the fantasy they have depicted in their heads that is enforced by our heteronormative culture, and the unrealistic standards that the kpop industry projects onto idols. And unfortunately, Sung Hanbin is no exception to this. I hope we get to see him open up more in the future.

that was wonderfully stated.  All clues do lead to queerness but I think that because Hanbin is not Woongki or Seowon coded, fans can decide in their minds that he is straight.  I think the same goes for Jiwoong, except he gets accused of queerbaiting because of his acting in kbl's which is a whole different topic 😬.

!! i usually lurk on this thread but i wanted to finally comment and say i agree with this so much... ive seen so many people say hes straight and its maddeninggg (not going to get into how fans forget bisexuality exists but

like you said, the videos of him touching his girl friend's butts + the stuff about his similarities with zhang hao make me believe hes not 100% straight at all tbh

Ayaya always these two

I like how it’s Taeyoung in the back here lol.

Cravity really is just out there quietly living their best gay idol lives (edit: as much as a male idol can anyway) and you can’t convince me otherwise. They seem successful enough to sell well and do concerts and tours, but not so popular where every action is analyzed or they’re under tons of scrutiny.
